when i review books, i usually enjoy making a little moodboard with some pics or art (mostly from unsplash or open source). but if i didn’t like the book at all or it annoyed me… yeah, you're just getting a random cover image. i’m a visual person, so it helps me too. anyway. If i’m taking the time to moodboard it, the rating is probably above 2.75. just so you know 🫠
I started Emily Wilde’s Map of the Otherlands in my winter holiday and finished it today, which is again a holiday — full circle.
Realising that I have a very specific favourite trope (one of my favourites, anyway):
It's kinda found family, except actually the family has been there all along. MC is just completely oblivious and also convinced that they are unworthy of being loved, especially not by multiple people, and then something happens and everyone rallies to rescue MC or give them whatever help they need and they're just like "You came for me? 🥹" And everybody else is "Well fucking duh (affectionate)."

Does anyone have any recommendations for urban fantasy books or series where the love interest is not some super duper hot, confident, put together guy who the heroine is lusting over from the first chapter, and constantly distracted by during major events going forward?
I don't necessarily mind this but I'd just love something with a more awkward, nerdy, fumbling and/or shy love interest that the heroine wants to get to know rather than just jump the first chance she gets. Maybe he even wears glasses!
Bonus points for witches, baking magic, coziness, underground magical societies, mysteries.

Dear followers, this hasn’t really been a bookish blog but it probably will be more so in the future. Especially since it’s ElucienWeek over in bookblr and I am realizing just how weak I am for Lucien Vanserra. And the new Blood & Ash book is coming out on Tuesday.
