I'm pretty used to horror media making a lot of allusions and references to other horror media. How many horror movies have name dropped Romero?
But I was kind of surprised to see a HUGE Midnight Mass reference in the book I just finished. A character gives a speech to the protagonist and a lot of the dialog is almost word for word from the scene where Father Paul confronts Riley about guilt.
It's not a bad thing, love to see that other people love and appreciate Midnight Mass. But it did kind of take me out of the moment! That's the danger when a reference is too on the nose I guess.
