made the mistake of going into the tags for You Weren't Meant To Be Human and i have some THOUGHTS - mainly for the people who are feeling short-changed by the "lack" of a scary alien pregnancy
the pregnancy is alien to Crane to begin with. that's the point.
if it had been some classic form of monstrous alien pregnancy, then that would have undercut the specific type of horror the baby presents to Crane. the horror being that he is undergoing an entirely human process. he has always thought of himself as the other, the despised, the beast of burden, forsaken by humanity both outside and within the Hive. if he had birthed some horrible alien creature, that would have validated those feelings and confirmed his monstrous, inhuman self-hatred.
the real horror for him is that the baby is human. it's a fragile thing that doesn't deserve any of the hate that has been poisoning both of them this whole time. he never thought the baby could be something so deserving of mercy, nor did he think of himself as capable of acting so humanely in its interests. both himself and the baby "weren't meant to be human" and the horror is that they, in fact, are.
you know you're reading a horror story when it implies that rfk may be the vice president
this book crawled up my spinal cord and has me bolt upright at dawn absolutely ravenous for the next chapter 1000000/10 worms for the bug cult and i'm only halfway through. equal parts horny and nauseating i need 2 find a physical copy and eat every single page
Mrs. Norris loves saving money almost as much as she loves reminding Fanny that she’s ugly, poor, and dependent on the goodwill of others. such a charitable aunt 😍

last chapter I read of drive ripped my heart out of my chest and stomped on it and took a shit on it tbh
i need a book to get really connected to... i haven’t read a book that rly grabbed my attention since. well i guess since the last one i read lol but i digress. i guess now that i’ve gotten out of the habit of it i don’t really care about reading all that much. half the time i just read nosleep or like, even that gnc roman fic i wrote lmao because reading whatever is better than nothing, but eh. the book im currently “reading” (queer and loathing) is just disappointing me really like i get it and i’m glad to be reading lgbt stuff from then but also. it’s kinda boring how the guy is sardonic a-a-a-all the time. even i can’t handle that and i fucking love sardonic.
i’ll take a look at my other books idk idk.
i think i’ll just read some from the fractal geometry of nature. soothing
