haha do you ever stop and remember that there's a whole entire musical dedicated to mocking your religion that's been running continuously on broadway for half your life and nobody in the world thinks twice about it lollllll š it won nine tony awards š¤Ŗ
I love belonging to a community in which people put us in a little glass box and go "LOOK AT THESE FREAKS. ARENT THEY SO WEIRD AND FREAKY??? WOAHHHHH THOSE CRAZY CULTISTS. LETS JUST LOOKIT THEM. IM SO GLAD THEYRE NOT REAL PEOPLE AND ARE INSTEAD JUST A PHENOMENON TO STARE AT". it doesn't feel dehumanizing at all
We were discussing the new dog tag list and one of my friends wondered why everyone hates Mormons so much. And yeah I knew it was a rhetorical question but I had an answer.
And like yeah I said it like a joke but genuinely it's that simple. Someone made a new church in a country where it was legal to do so and everyone got so mad that they killed him and many other people. And almost 200 years later people still hate it to the point that they want to kill people on the daily.
As funny as the Scientology Speedruns are I worry about people targeting other minority religions next

I don't actually mind the haters sending me inappropriate pictures or violently telling me why I'm evil due to my religious beliefs. It's the small things from the people I love that hurt.
My childhood best friend looking terrified when I tell her about beautiful experiences I've had in the Church.
My boyfriend slowly breaking up with me after I brought him to a church activity.
My parents stopping me from going to church because they're genuinely afraid they might lose me.
I never wanted to have to choose between the people I love and the God I love. I always thought I could have both.
This person genuinely believes they're the first one to ever call us a cult and that they're being super brave by doing so.
āDevout Mormonsā
I may be digging my own grave, but it needs to be said. Spoilers for TADC episode 9
I just finished watching TADC finale, and I liked it! Was it rushed and had a lot going on? Yeah. Was it still enjoyable? Yes!
Except for one part.
(Well, two, but that scene with Jax and Gangle *shudders* has been talked about before by other people)
During Ribbitās confessional to Jax, she mentions that her parents were ādevout Mormonsā and she āā¦wasnātā. She then said that she cut ties with them, but regretted it.
Now, Iām going to go ahead and say that I think this is one of the most nuanced and respectful mentions of my faith Iāve seen in modern media, even if it was slightly negative. I appreciate Goose for taking that approach.
However, I know the internet, and I know the TADC fandom. So I wanted to clear this up before people take it too far.
Latter-Day Saints, or Mormons, are not collectively bad. There are bad eggs and members who take the faith and twist it in a way to control and conquer, but that is with every religion.
Now, that isnāt do downplay anyone who has had religious trauma from their church experience. Every ward/branch, every leader, is going to be different and have different views, helpful or harmful.
However, I hope that people talk to members about the church and what they believe and get to know who they are.
All in all, I hope that this line in the finale doesnāt turn into another slew of anti-latter-day-saint comments. This line doesnāt deserve it.
