Sunday was the last day of Comic Con — thanks to everyone who came to see us in San Diego, it was a blast. And now, as we catch our breath, we oughta mention another special thing about July 22 — it would have been Vaughn Bode’s 77th birthday. Though Vaughn died in 1975, almost two years before Heavy Metal debuted on newsstands, we were privileged to serialize his “Sunpot,” in color, beginning in that first issue, and (later) his “Zooks.” Creator of Cheech Wizard, Cobalt 60, Junkwaffel and numerous Bode Broads (pictured), Vaughn was a true comix original, and is survived both genetically and artistically by his son Mark Bode. Be sure to follow @markbodeofficial @vaughnbodeofficial and @cheechwizardofficial to get the most Bode for your Instagram buck. . #vaughnbode #ripvaughnbode #happybirthday #birthday #sunpot #zooks #cheechwizard #bodebroad #bodebroads #heavymetalmagazine #vaughnbodé #vaughnbodē
