He had heard the stories of the giants. They could reach the clouds, their roots touched the middle of the earth. They harboured birds and squirrels and caterpillars. But while stories of gods are entertaining, he was happy not to be one of them. He did not need all the excitement, all the heroics. He was perfectly comfortable in his quiet home, branches carefully trimmed and pruned every so often. He moved with the seasons and enjoyed the rest in winter. His leaves had travelled onwards and he came back to his centre. Soon, new buds would sprout and he would be ready to dazzle everyone around him. But first, a few more months of sleep.
