The Wolf crouched low, his scarred muzzle facing toward a rabbit one leap away from him, his pale sightless eyes not seeing it. Instead, he saw through another’s. The sight was a little different, the angle off and distorted, but it allowed him a view of the prey animal in front of him, one that did not sense him. He tensed, powerful legs bunching under him as he sprang... and came down just to the left of the rabbit, which squealed in fright and bolted.Â
(Bad luck.) A voice in his mind commented sympathetically. The Wolf turned his massive head toward the other. A smaller Wolf, dark and brown fur intermixed, glaring at her. He didn’t need his eyes to glare.Â
Then he sighed, resting his head on his paws. (I need to be able to hunt.)Â
The other came closer, sitting near him but not touching. (You are a great Alpha. All the pack thinks so. You do not need eyes to lead us. We have done well these years with you not hunting. There are enough of us to feed the rest. Besides, your ears and nose work just as well, if not better, than they always have. Stop feeling sorry for yourself, Levi.)Â
Levi curled his lip, half in snarl half in grimace. (Way to mince your words, Hange.) He yawned and stretched, toes splaying. (You don’t usually take me to try hunting unless you want something.)Â
Now the brown Wolf shifted uneasily. (No need to get upset, but...)
Levi shook his head in dismay as he faced the building. He couldn’t see it, but the smells coming from it made his stomach growl in hunger. How Hange had decided that a blind date was a good idea was beyond him. He was giving her the benefit of the doubt, since she’d been there for him after he lost his sight. But honestly, him conversing with another human? What was he supposed to say? ‘Hobbies? Oh, I run on four feet during the Full Moon and eat wild game.’ Yeah, that’d really go over well.Â
Sighing, the male adjusted the dark glasses he was wearing to better cover his scars, then moved his cane around until he located the stairs. Someone graciously opened the door for him and led him to a seat. He told them he was expecting company, and would wait to order until they arrived. But he accepted a glass of water in the meantime. Despite showing no outward signs, the male was nervous. He’d never done anything like this before. Curse Hange for placing him in this situation. He sat there, listening each time the door opened, wondering when his date would arrive.
