Summary:
Cas has had a crush on one of his customers that comes into his coffee/bakery shop for a while now, and at the urging of his cousin, he slowly works up the nerve to start engaging the man in conversation. From there he finally decided to bite the bullet and slip the man his phone number on his morning cup of coffee. He's quite proud of himself for being brave enough and taking some initiative, since it's completely outside of his comfort zone. Until it dawns on him exactly what he did.
He put his name and phone number on his crush's coffee cup.
His crush is blind.
This might just be the most humiliating thing he's ever done.
As some of you might have guessed already, I like fics that discuss minorities, this fic including Dean as a blind character. Iâve read it multiple times and still love how relatable this story is! An amazing, funny, fluffy, awkward fic thatâll make you all warm inside đ¤

Itâs been more than a few months since retirement and falling in love, and Samâs not sleeping. To say Dean is concerned would be an understatement.
Eileen and Max are on a hunt without him. Sam would have gone with them, Dean knows, but Jesse and Cesar needed his help and Cas is on a hunt with Claire. So theyâre gone and Samâs nightmares are back, but Dean has a plan.
Right now, Sam is in the library, probably buried in another book because heâs a weirdo that canât get enough of them. Dean loves that about his brother, but he wonât say that to Samâs face.
âHiya, Sammy,â Dean says, pushing a bottle of beer toward Sam with a little more power than is necessary. He might be blind but he knows Samâs size and dimensions enough to know the bottle is near his face. Samâs been elbow deep in research with Jesse and Cesar for the last week and Dean thinks he deserves a break, even though Sam probably wonât take one. With the threat of being hit in the face with it, Sam has no other choice but to take the beer from his brother. âHowâre you doing?â
Sam dodges Dean's hand and takes the beer. âPretty good. Turned out to be a shapeshifting witch, which is a new one, but Jesse and Cesar got it and no one got hurt. Theyâre on their way back now. I asked them to pick up a big box of eggs.â
âAwesome. Gotta stock up on protein.â
âGarthâs coming to visit and he promised to bring laundry detergent. He should be here in a day or two. Will we have enough to last until then?â
âOh yeah.â Dean takes his usual chair across from his brother. âAnd all of our towels and bedding just got washed this morning, so we should be fine.â
âGreat.â Sam sits back in his chair. âI need a nap.â
âThen take a nap. I know youâve been having nightmares again, what with Eileen and Max gone.â Dean waves his own beer a little as he talks, gesturing to the empty library.
Sam sighs. âYeah. I donât know what to do about it.â
âYa know what we should do next?â Dean asks, setting his feet up on the table and taking a swig of his beer.
âWhat?â Sam asks.
âWe should get you your own service dog.â
âMy own?â
âYeah. Cas and I did some digging, and they train service dogs for people whoâve been through traumatic experiences. Iâd say youâve been through plenty of traumatic shit. We could get one of those for you.â
When Sam speaks, itâs slowly. âWhat would you say if I told you Iâve already been going to regular training sessions for a PTSD service dog?â
Two weeks later, Sam brings Blue home. The big Chesapeake Bay retriever is pretty much the perfect fit for Sam, in Deanâs opinion, and the younger brother dotes on his new companion. Blue is a bit of an attention whore, but thatâs okay. Everyone loves him, so thereâs more than enough love to go around.
Itâs a quiet night in the bunker. Jody and Donna retired early since they need to head out early. Charlie has buried herself under a mound of blankets in the new TV room and is introducing a pretty young hunter named Beth to Game of Thrones (though Deanâs not sure any TV watching is actually happening and heâs not about to go check). Dean is sprawled in one library chairs, socked feet resting in Casâs lap. Lady is sleeping between them, which is really impressive with the amount of noise Sam and his lovers are making.
All five of them are a little tipsy and Dean canât remember the last time he actually felt buzzed. Heâs been drinking less lately, though, so his tolerance has probably decreased. Itâs something that might have bothered him, once upon a time, but not anymore. He feels good.
âHeâs gorgeous,â Cas is saying, admiring the big dog Dean thinks is trying to climb onto Maxâs lap while Eileen giggles into her beer. âHis coat is curly. How interesting.â
âI think itâs a water thing,â Sam says honestly. Max clumsily fends Blue off with some mumbled drunken cursing. Sam laughs and Dean hears the distinct sound of a Blue licking his face. âIâll have to look into that.â
âIt probably means he sheds more,â Dean says with false bitterness. Sam knows heâs just playing.
âYouâre just jealous cos my dogâs better looking than yours,â Sam teases in return.
âNuh-uh. Lady is the most beautiful dog in existence. Youâre just an asshole.â
âWow. Jerk.â
âBitch.â Dean finishes off his beer.
âBe nice,â Cas scolds, tickling the bottom of Deanâs foot.
âIâm perfectly nice!â Dean protests, kicking out. He catches Casâs side and almost tips his own chair over, but Cas thankfully still has the reflexes of an angel and one hand around Deanâs ankle and the arm of the unsteady chair are enough to keep Dean upright.
âKarma,â Max snickers.
Dean wants to say something snarky or vaguely threatening in return, but Casâs hand is solid and soothing on his shin, and Sam is laughing in a way Dean never thought he would ever hear again. Eileen whispers something Dean doesnât pay attention to that sends Max into his own fit of laughter. The three are soon excusing themselves, though, and Dean just rolls his eyes.
âDonât do anything I wouldnât do,â he calls after them.
âThatâs not a very long list,â Sam replies.
Cas snickers and Dean pouts. âYouâre supposed to be on my side.â
âI know,â Cas says, reaching over to squeeze Deanâs hand before standing. âCan you ever forgive me?â
âMaybe. If you get me a new beer.â Dean waves his empty bottle and he can practically hear Casâs eye-roll. âGimme one of those fancy ones Elvis brought when he was here last week.â
âOf course.â A soft kiss is dropped on his head and Cas murmurs, âRetirement looks good on you.â
Dean listens to him walk away, smiling to himself. Retirement feels good, too.

part three
The Roadhouse was nice. It was small, only ten tables, which were made of wood along with the chairs. There was a bar which took up about half of the establishment, and Castiel found himself wondering if Dean came here for the burgers or the beer. Maybe both.
Currently they were sitting at one of the tables, pressed up against the back corner of the building. Dean was thrumming his fingers again, a small smile on his face. Castiel was still sweating.
âWell if it isnât Dean Winchester,â said a voice, and Castiel turned to see a pretty, middle aged woman looking right at them. Or right at Castiel.
âHey, Ellen,â Dean said, his fingers stilling, as he looked up to the direction of her voice and smiled, all teeth. âItâs pretty slow in here, today.â
Castiel looked around and noticed that it was slow. There was only one other table being used by an elderly man. He seemed to be  examining the burger in front of him, like he was figuring out how to go about attacking it.
âYeah well, I know you canât see clocks but itâs not quite dinner time. Lucky for you, you beat the rush.â The woman, Ellen, said, and Castiel noticed that she was still looking at him. Examining him like the elderly man had been to his burger. Castiel gave a shy smile, and glanced away.
âOh please, it doesnât matter what time it is. Anytime is burger time, thatâs what they say.â Dean said, and looked at Castiel now. Castiel found himself trying his hardest not to go beet red. Again.
âWho says that, now?â Ellen said, and now she was smiling, and Castiel must really be imagining the awkwardness of this situation.
âYou know, them.â Dean said pointedly, like everyone should know who they are. âWell, mostly me. I say that. But Iâm sure there are other people whoâve said it before.â
Ellen shifted, cocking a hip out as she brought her notepad out of her pocket. Right. They were here to order food.
âI donât think I can hear anymore of your- whatever that was- so,â Ellen said, raising her eyebrows. âIâm sure I know what you want, but, whatâll your friend here, have.â And then she was staring at Castiel again, and he hadnât even had a chance to look through the menu, with all this conversation going on, so he just said the first thing that came to his head.
âIâll, um, have whatever heâs having.â Castiel said, pointing to Dean. As if it wasnât obvious who he was talking about. Ellen narrowed her eyes a bit, and then nodded.
âCute.â She said, turning to Dean again. âWhereâd you find this one, Dean?â and then it was Deanâs turn to flush red, which Castiel would have thought was endearing, if it wasnât for the comment that had brought it on. This one.
âUh,â Dean mumbled, and Castiel was desperately wondering how many dates he had brought here. âHe works at the coffee place I always go to.â
Ellenâs eyebrows raised again, like sheâd heard about the coffee shop before.
âUh huh.â she said, and Castiel really wished she would go away now, because Castiel couldnât take any more embarrassment.
âCastiel, meet Ellen. Ellen, Castiel.â Dean said, and Castiel thought maybe he should have done the introductions at the beginning of this whole conversation. Instead of voicing these opinions, he just gave a small wave. Ellen didnât wave back.
âIâll be right out with your order.â She said, and then she gave Castiel one final look, turned and disappeared into the back.
Castiel didnât know what to say. Castiel had too much to say, and for the first time Dean was utterly silent. There was no thrumming of fingers, or quirky jokes. Unlike the comfortable silence before, this silence was awkward and intense.
âSo,â Castiel said, because it had been at least two minutes too long and someone had to say something. âEllen. Sheâs interesting.â and Dean looked up, and his face was still so handsome, despite the frown that overtook it.
âYeah,â he grumbled. âShe always gets into my business. Iâm sorry about that.â
âIâm assuming you come here often,â Castiel said, motioning vaguely to the diner, to no one in particular. âWith a lot of other people, it seems.â and he couldnât help but mention that. The fact was right out in the open, and if he didnât say something he was gonna choke on it.
âNot that many.â Dean said shyly, and that was a good look on him. Castiel tried his hardest to keep himself from smiling.
âReally?â Castiel asked, and he wasnât that upset anymore. Dean had to have dated people in the past. Really, Castiel doesnât have the right to be mad at him about it. Maybe he was allowed to be jealous, though.
âWell,â Dean said, and Castiel could see a smirk forming on his face. âMaybe a few.â and okay, Castiel was definitely jealous, but Dean didnât have to know that.
Castiel hummed and leaned back in his chair. He wondered if Ellen was disapproving of all the dates Dean had brought in, or if it was just him.
âDoes she usually scare your dates away, or is that just me?â he asked, and Dean chuckled, shaking his head. Castiel smiled.
âWell, sheâs kind of like my mom.â Dean said. âShe just wants to make sure youâre good enough for me.â Castiel raised his eyebrows at that.
âAm I?â he said, because he was curious what Dean thought about it. He was curious about what Dean thought about most things.
âI think it might be the other way around there, Cas.â Castielâs heart rate spiked at that, and he found himself really needing to change the conversation.
âSo, youâve known her a long time then?â Castiel said, his voice raising an octave or two, and Dean obviously knew what he was doing because he just turned his head downwards, and smiled again.
âYeah. Sheâs been in my life since I can remember, really.â Dean said and when Castiel remained silent, he continued. âShe was a close friend of my momâs- dad too- but ever since my mom passed away she kind of, filled the role.â And Castiel wasnât expecting that.
âIâm sorry.â He said, not really knowing what he was apologising for. Dean nodded, and Castiel wanted to ask more questions, wanted to know more about Deanâs upbringing, but from their previous conversations he feared that it would push Dean away.
âItâs okay, I mean, obviously it sucks but,â Dean took a breath, and Castiel knew this wasnât something he liked to talk about. âIt was a long time ago. I donât remember her that well.â
âWhat was her name?â Castiel asked, voice soft. It was a safe question, he thought.
âMary.â Dean replied, smiling. âIt was worse for my brother though. He was a baby, so everything he knows is from stories.â
âYou have a brother?â Another safe question.
âYeah. Sam. Sammy, but if anyone else calls him that he gets pissed.â and then Deanâs laughing and Castiel didnât know how he could fall in love with a sound so quickly. âTall, lanky bastard. I donât know how we have the same genes.â
âIâm sure heâs great.â Castiel said, and he didnât think heâs smiled this much in a long time.
âYeah, itâs kind of annoying actually. The smartest kid Iâve ever met, heart of gold. But donât tell him I told you that, if you do, Iâll deny it.â And Castiel thought this would be a moment where Dean would wink if he didnât have glasses guarding his eyes.
âI wonât say a word. Cross my heart.â And he found himself motioning the gesture against his chest.
âHope to die.â Dean continued. âThough, I have to eat this burger before that happens. It would be a shame if I didnât get to enjoy my last meal.â And if on cue, Castiel heard a bang from the back door opening, and Ellen emerged with two plates in either hand. Two enormous plates. Deamâs head turned to the sound, and his face seemed to light up. Note, Dean really liked burgers.
âHere we are,â Ellen said, placing the plates down in front of them. âOne regular, and one Iâll have what heâs having.â Castiel chuckled, and Ellenâs face softened a bit. He wondered if it was a look of approval. He hoped it was.
âEllen, youâre my favorite person in the world right now.â Dean said and if he wasnât blind Castiel would think that he was staring longingly at the burger in front of him.
âOh please, boy. Iâm always your favorite person and you know it.â Ellen said, and scoffed. âBut Iâll let you two enjoy your meals. I think Iâve flustered your boyfriend enough for one day.â And Castiel definitely did go beet red then.
Ellen turned and walked away, leaving Castiel with a very large burger, and a very red face that, thankfully, Dean couldnât see.
Castiel thought this would be a good opportunity to fill the silence by shoving a ridiculous amount of fries into his mouth. Dean obviously didnât feel this way.
âHm. So youâre flustered?â Dean asked, but it wasnât a question so much as a statement.
âHmph.â Castiel grumbled over his fries. They were good, just the right amount of salt, and he thought maybe he tasted a hint of garlic.
âIâll take that as a yes.â Dean said, and then he moved his hands, feeling for the plate. His fingers made their way to the mountain of fries, and then he was picking one up and putting it in his mouth. He definitely looked better eating fries than Castiel did.
âNo comment.â Castiel said, after he was finished chewing. Dean nodded, reaching for another fry. Then he moved his hands around the table, obviously searching for something, and Castiel thought he should probably help with the task.
âWhat do you need?â Castiel asked, and he thought maybe this was a learning opportunity to find out how Dean liked his burgers and fries. He didnât linger on the fact that he cared about such a frivolous thing.
âKetchup. Obviously. Iâm not a barbarian.â Dean said, and Castiel put that fact into his rapidly growing list of Dean trivia. Then he reached for the ketchup, and slid it over.
âHere.â He said, and when Dean didnât move, Castiel grabbed his hand and guided it to the bottle. Dean grasped it, and Castiel reluctantly let his own hand fall away. Maybe Dean would need assistance grabbing something else.
âThanks,â Dean said, reaching to unscrew the cap. Castiel grunted, not trusting himself to speak, knowing heâd most likely say something embarrassing. âYou want some?â he asked, after pouring an alarming amount on his plate.
âI think I could probably just steal from yours.â Castiel said, because seriously, that was a lot of ketchup. And apparently this was the wrong thing to say, because Deanâs head snapped up and he seemed to be giving Castiel a very offended glare.
âYou will do no such thing.â Dean said, and another fact slid into Castielâs brain: Dean doesnât share his mountain of ketchup. âYou want some, get your own.â and to make his point, he proceeded to dunk his entire fry into the red sauce.
âYou have enough there to feed a small family.â Castiel deadpanned. Dean continued to dunk his fries, and Castiel thought that with someone else it would seem disgusting, but somehow Dean just made it look adorable. Which was ridiculous.
âYou underestimate my love for ketchup.â Dean said, dunking another fry before feeling around for his burger. Castielâs still remained untouched.
âI donât think I do. But to be safe, Iâll pour my own. I donât feel like being murdered today.â Castiel said, and for the first time he actually looked at the burger on his plate. The first thing he thought was, massive. Are the portions just bigger here?
âWhatâs on this anyways?â Castiel asked, his eyes squinting, trying to dissect the mystery in front of him.
âI wouldnât murder you over ketchup.â Dean started, taking a generous bite of his burger before continuing. âThis, on the other hand,â he motioned to his food. âThis I would definitely kill for.â
âNoted.â Castiel said, and then he hesitantly picked up his own burger, staring at it quizzically. âAnd you didnât answer me. Whatâs on this?â But instead of waiting for Deanâs answer, he took a small bite, chewing slowly.
âNah, Iâm not gonna tell you that.â Dean said, stopping to take a drink of water. âItâs good though, right? If you say no I might have to go to extreme measures.â Castiel rolled his eyes at that.
âI would like to see you try.â Castiel said, but he was right. It was good. He tasted a sauce he didnât think heâd ever had before, and decided maybe heâd ask Ellen what it was. Dean wasnât being very helpful.
They ate in silence for a few minutes, and thankfully it wasnât awkward this time. It would have been worse if they kept trying to talk with their mouths full. Dean seemed to show his adoration for the food through noises. Very sexual noises. Or Castiel was just imagining things. But heâs pretty sure if Dean moaned in approvement one more time, Castiel was going to break his cup from clenching it so tightly. And heâd rather not be the customer who got broken glass everywhere.
âSo,â Dean said, finishing the last bite. âWhatâs the verdict then?â There was still a small pile of fries scattered on his place, and Castiel wondered if heâd finish them. It would be an enormous feat.
âIt was good.â Castiel said, immediately realizing that that was probably not the adjective Dean would want to hear. âGreat, even.â
âHm.â Dean said, unfolding a napkin to wipe his hands. When he was finished he put it next to the many other napkins that had been used already. Castiel didnât know if he was  a messy eater, or if burgers were just impossible to eat without disaster. Maybe the former. Castiel had only used one.
âJust great?â Dean continued, and Castiel huffed out a sigh. âNotâŚ. superb, or fantastic? Delectable, even?â
âWhat would you like to hear? That was the best burger Iâve ever had.â Castiel said, exaggerating his words.
âYou donât eat burgers.â Dean said, crossing his arms. âCome on, just say that youâre dying to come back here again.â And Castiel would die to come back here again. But moreso for the company than anything else. Â
âIf I can ever move again.â Castiel grumbled, rubbing his stomach. Could you die from eating too much? âBut yes, I would love to come back here again. For a few reasons.â And where did that insinuating tone come from?
âWhat would those be? My wonderful company?â Dean said, smiling.
âHm. No. For Ellen, she probably knows a lot about you.â And Deanâs smile was immediately replaced with a look of horror.
âYou wouldnât.â Dean said, a hint of terror in his voice.
âI would. But maybe I can be persuaded.â Castiel said, and yeah, he was flirting. Which was new and exciting, and terrifying all at once.
âEvil.â Dean whispered, but his mouth was turning up again. âOkay, name it.â And Castiel chuckled at the fact that Dean would probably do anything to keep him from finding out all his dirty secrets.
âYou want my eyes? Thatâs weird, Cas, even for you. Besides, they donât work.â Dean said, shaking his head. Castiel couldnât help the laugh that escaped his mouth.
âShut up, you know what I mean.â Castiel said, still wondering how conversation seemed to flow so easily between them. Not that it was a bad thing. âBesides, I remember you promising me something similar if I came here and ate a burger. Youâre not going to back out on your promises, are you?â
âDamn you. I thought you might forget.â Dean said, but Castiel sensed that his exasperation was just being overplayed. He hoped it was. âYouâre right, I did promise. And Iâll have you know, Iâm no liar. Well, most of the time.â
âQuit stalling.â Castiel said, because he really wanted to know what Deanâs eyes looked like. He needed to know, and he couldnât exactly figure out why it was so important.
âOkay, calm down.â Dean said and then he was reaching up to his glasses, and Castiel sucked in a breath. âRemember, they wonât look exactly like a normal persons. They canât focus on stuff, so even though Iâm looking at you, I wonât beâŚ.. Looking at you. You know?â And Castiel realized that Dean was very obviously nervous about this. This probably wasnât something he usually did on a first date, and Castiel suddenly felt like an asshole.
But then Dean was taking off his glasses and Castiel was seeing his eyes, and all thoughts of him being insensitive slipped away. They were green. Somehow deep and vibrant all at once, and Castiel leaned forward despite himself. Dean was right, there was no reaction in his pupils, but Castiel didnât care, because now he could see the speckles of hazel brown scattered in amongst his irises. And for a moment Castiel was upset, because so many people were missing out on a part of this manâs beauty. The other part of him thought maybe he was being insensitive again.
Dean started to fidget, and Castiel realized that he should probably say something. Because Dean could be taking this silence the wrong way, and that just wouldnât do.
âTheyâre beautiful, Dean.â Castiel said, and his voice was rough. The unspoken youâre beautiful threatened to escape his mouth, and he had to take another breath to compose himself.
âReally?â Dean said, softly. And Castiel was upset again, because did Dean really not know how attractive he was?
âYes. Really.â Castiel said, and Dean smiled, and this was a new one. It was soft, and intimate, and for a moment Castiel thought that this was a smile just for him, and he couldnât breath again.
âThanks.â Dean said. He went to put his glasses back on, and Castiel impulsively reached up to stop him.
âWait-â Castiel grabbed Deanâs hand, gently, and brought it back down to the table. âJust, one more minute. Who knowâs when Iâll get to see them again, with you making me do all these ridiculous things.â
âOh like it was so hard to come here and eat a burger, Cas.â Dean said, but he let Castielâs hand guide his own down, and when it was set on the table, he didnât let go. Just grazed his thumb back and forth against the back of Castielâs.
Castiel didnât know how long they sat there, but soon enough- too soon- Ellen came with the bill. She looked down at the table, smirked, and slid the piece of paper next to Dean. Then she turned to Castiel and winked.
He can pay, she mouthed and Castiel covered his laugh with a cough, which made Deanâs head pique up in interest.
âEllen?â He asked, narrowing his eyes. âI know youâre there. What did you tell him?â
Castiel didnât bother to hide the laugh this time, let it fall out of him, and then Ellen was laughing along with him.
âDonât know what you mean.â Ellen said, and she smiled at Castiel, and if that made Castiel feel warm inside, he wouldnât question the meaning. âSee you boys soon, Iâm sure.â And once again, she made her exit.
âWhat did she say, Cas?â Dean said, turning his narrowed eyes at Castiel.
âOh, nothing.â Castiel said, feigning ignorance, and then thinking better of it. âJust that you can pay, is all.â
Dean scoffed, but he was looking at Cas with a look of- something- something important, maybe.
âFine,â Dean said, feeling for the paper. âBut that means you got the next one. I canât even read this, Cas, help me out here.â
Castiel grabbed the bill with his free hand, his other one was still occupied, and read the price. Then he had an idea.
âGuess.â Yeah, he was an asshole, but maybe Dean just brought that out in him. âGuess the price, and then we can go.â And maybe he was just using this as a technique to keep this date from ending.
Dean shook his head, but Castiel knew he was going to play along. Of course he was.
âFine, but just so you know, Iâm gonna get it to the God damn dime.â
Castiel just smiled, and grasped Deanâs hand tighter, felt the tightening in his chest, and thought man Iâm fucked.
Love is Great, Love is Kind, But Love is Not Blind (Chapter 22)

Summary: Gabriel and Dean and excited to start off their first day of spring break at the cabin.Â
Gabriel had picked out Deanâs outfit for that day - taking the liberty of putting him in something comfortable so that the two of them could lay around all day. Gabriel gave Dean one of his black tee shirts with AC/DC on it as well as a pair of loose blue jeans. Gabriel, on the other hand, stole one of Deanâs massive shirts, loving the way that it smelt like the cologne he used, and wore a pair of jeans as well.
After the two of them dressed, Gabriel gave Dean a guided tour of the cabin, giving a brief description of each room before watching as Dean felt around with his fingers and cane for every object that was placed accordingly in the rooms. That process took, about, thirty minutes. Dean took the longest to examine the bathroom, kitchen, and bedroom, no doubt making mental images of the room and attempting to remember every inch of it.
They ended in the kitchen and that was when Gabriel pulled Dean down by his shirt and pressed their lips together in a romantic kiss. Dean blushed, tensed, and closed his eyes instinctively. Gabriel pulled back and examined the pink that danced across his cheeks. He chuckled. Deanâs eyes opened again.
âYouâre adorable.â Gabriel said.
Dean blushed deeper. âNo, Iâm not.â
âYes you are.â
âNo.â He grumbled and smiled.
âYes.â
âNo.â Gabriel could see the smile widening on his boyfriendâs lips.
Without hesitation, Gabriel dipped Dean, causing a yelp to fall from his lips. Dean tensed up and grabbed onto Gabriel in a death grip, his knuckles turning white. Gabriel smirked.
âI got you.â
âYouâre an asshole.â
Gabriel raised his brows in mock surprise. âMe?â He asked, his voice laced with sarcasm. âWhy would you call lilâ âol me an asshole?â He put one hand over his chest while the other one held onto Dean tightly.
âYou gave me a heart attack. Warn me next time.â Dean said, chest moving up and down at a rapid pace.
Gabriel hummed in thought before he shook his head. âNope.â He told him and leaned down, kissing his jaw and his lips.
Dean kissed him back and felt a sense of relief as he was pulled up from the terrifying stance. Their lips separated and Dean leaned against him.
âWhat do you want to do today sweetcheeks? Today we are going to stay in and just relax in our new cabin.â Gabriel smiled.
Dean hummed. âI definitely want to go outside and enjoy the sun and the wind.â He said.
âThat does sound good.â Gabriel agreed, smiling. He bit his lip. âI can also read to you, we can listen to music, dance, listen to moviesâŚâ He trailed.
âSnack?â
Gabriel nodded. âOf course, Dean. It wouldnât be a day in if you didnât snack on junk food and the occasional fruit to make yourself feel better about yourself.â
Dean chuckled and nodded. âOkay, why donât you choose what we do first and then I choose. We go back and forth.â
âYeah, that sounds good.â He nodded. âWell, what Iâm really in the mood to do is swing you back and forth in a little dance.â He smirked.
âGabe, Iâm not that good of a dancer.â Dean shook his head, smiling.
âYou donât have to be good.â He shrugged. âI still want to dance with you.â
Dean hummed and bit his lip. âI donât know.â He said.
âSure you do.â Gabriel grabbed Deanâs hand and began to lead him to the living room. âSit.â He said and pushed Dean gently onto the couch. Dean blushed and chuckled. He got comfortable in the his spot before placing his hands in his lap, folded.
Gabriel went around to every window that was in the living room and opened it, the breeze blowing and immediately sending the strong scent of nature flowing through the room. Dean inhaled, shoulders rising and then falling. He smiled at the satisfactory scent that ran through his nostrils. Afterwards, Gabriel moved to the stereo that sat next to the television and plugged his phone into it. It was there that he began to play slow dancing music through the speakers, the instrumental songs echoing through the room. Gabriel turned back to Dean and smiled, helping it.
âCome on, handsome.â He said. âLetâs get dancing.â
âI donât know how.â
âThen Iâll teach you.â
Dean looked uneasy as Gabriel laced their fingers together and placed his hand on Deanâs waist. Dean didnât know what to do with his extra hand, clenching it lightly. Gabriel placed Deanâs hand on his shoulder.
âThere you go.â He said. âJust follow my lead.â
Gabriel went slow at first, stepping to the side. Dean followed. Gabriel stepped back. Dean followed. Every single step that Gabriel stepped, Dean followed. Soon, the two of them were swaying back and forth as the instrumental music played through the speakers. Dean had leaned his head against Gabrielâs shoulder. Gabriel smiled. He kissed his head.
âAm I doing good?â Dean asked, raising his brow, eyes closed.
âYeah,â He smiled. âYouâre a natural babe.â He rubbed Deanâs side.
Dean smiled and kissed Gabrielâs cheek. âYouâre really sweet.â He said.
âSo are you, baby.â He said. âSo are you.â
âThe Afterlife, by Billy Collins.â Gabriel said, reading the title of the poem that was in the page of the book. He sat on the couch, poetry book in his right hand while the left hand massage Deanâs scalp, who lay in his lap, eyes closed and listening intensely.
âWhile you are preparing for sleep, brushing your teeth, or riffling through a magazine in bed, the dead are setting out on their journey. They are all moving off in all imaginable directions, each according to his own private belief, and this is the secret that silent Lazarus would not reveal: that everyone is right, as it turns out. You go to the place you always thought you would go, the place you kept lit in an alcove in your head. Some are being shot up a funnel of flashing colors in a zone of light, white as a January sun. Others are standing naked before a forbidding judge who sits with a golden ladder on one side, a coal chute on the other. Some have already joined the celestial choir and are singing as if they have been doing this forever, while the less inventive find themselves stuck in a big air-conditioned room full of food and chorus girls. Some are approaching the apartment of the female God, a woman in her forties with short wiry hair and glasses hanging from her neck by a string. With one eye she regards the dead through a hole in her door. There are those who are squeezing into the bodies of animals - eagles and leopards - and one trying on the skin of a monkey like a tight suit, ready to begin another life in a more simple key, while others float off into some benign vagueness, little units of energy heading for the ultimate elsewhere.â
Gabriel smiled. Dean smiled as well, humming. âThat was nice.â He said. âA little spooky but nice at the same time.â
Gabriel chuckled and kissed his head. âLet me find a better one. A more...romantic one.â
Dean blushed. He awed and giggled.
After skimming through the book for a while, he stopped on a poem by Robert Frost. âThe Pasture by Robert Frost.â He said and began to run his fingers through Deanâs spiky hair. âIâm going out to clean the pasture spring; Iâll only stop to rake the leaves away (And wait to watch the water clean, I may): I shaânât be gone long - You come too. Iâm going out to fetch the little calf thatâs standing by the mother. Itâs so young, it totters when she licks it with her tongue. I shaânât be gone long - You come too.â
Dean smiled. âAw.â He said. âYou want me to come too?â
Gabriel chuckled and kissed his nose and then his lips lightly. âOf course I do.â He said. âI always want you with me.â
Dean smiled and Gabriel entangled their fingers together, switching the book to the opposite hand. âRead another one.â
âAlright, alright,â Gabriel said and turned back to the book.
âIt feels beautiful outside.â Dean said with a wide grin on his lips.
The sun was just setting behind the trees, causing the wind to cool down lightly. As it crept through their back and into their hair, goosebumps rose on their arms. Gabriel and Dean were nuzzling against one another on the porch steps. Gabriel had his back against one of the pillars, legs spread wide with Dean settled between then.
âIt really does.â Gabriel agreed, nodding lightly.
âI really love it here. Feels so nice and itâs great to be away from people for once.â
âI agree.â He said. âAnd itâs really nice to be able to be out here with you.â He nuzzled against his cheek. Dean chuckled. âI really love spending time with you.â
âReally? I love spending time with you too.â He said. âYou make me feel like I donât have a disability and I really like it. You treat me like normal.â
âWell, you are normal. You shouldnât be treated differently because you canât see.â He said.
âI just got so used to it in school.â
âPeople in school are assholes.â He said.
âYou could say that again.â
âPeople in school are assholes.â
Dean rolled his eyes. âI didnât mean-â
âI know.â He smiled.
Dean closed his eyes and leaned back against Gabrielâs chest. Dean had never felt happier than he did at that very moment, in Gabrielâs arms, at peace with nature. He had no one around to hurt him or tease him or make him feel like he wasnât worth it. With Gabriel, he felt like he was important. Like he wasnât blind. Well, the only thing he wasnât blind to was Gabrielâs kindness. He could tell that Gabriel actually cared for him, which warmed his heart just thinking about it, and Dean knew, for a fact, that he cared for Gabe.
âIâm not going to lay on you.â Dean crossed his arms and shook his head.
âCome on, babe. Thatâs what all other couples do. They lay on each other on a small couch. That is a small couch. Now, why canât we be like that and lay on each other?â
âBecause Iâm bigger than you! Iâll crush your tiny body.â
âIâm not tiny! I am but three inches from the average male height, so Iâm almost there.â Gabriel raised his brows, pointing at him.
Dean chuckled and shook his head. âNo.â He said.
âToo bad.â He said and grabbed Deanâs hand, pulling Dean up and laying swiftly on the couch before pulling Dean on top of him. Dean shook his head and tried to push himself off.
âNo, Gabe.â He groaned.
âYes.â Gabriel smiled and wrapped his arms around Dean, pulling him close. He reached down and grabbed the remote to the DVD player and turned it on.
Dean sighed. âYou are so difficult.â
âSays the difficult one.â
âHey!â Dean chuckled.
âJust shush and get comfortable.â Gabriel smiled.
Dean opened his mouth, as if he was going to retaliate, but he shut his mouth and laid his head on top of Gabrielâs chest, hearing the sound of his steady heartbeat. Dean relaxed and snuggled against him. The movie began to play and it was then that Gabriel closed his eyes and began to rub Deanâs back. Gabriel wished he knew what it was like to be blind. What Dean was going through, but he was just there. Gabriel was the ignorant one, not knowing what Dean was experiencing on a day to day basis and it bothered him, though he never took the time to voice his opinion due to the fact that he didnât want to make Dean uncomfortable or offended. He didnât know if the fact that Gabriel felt that way would bother him. So, he just kept his feelings hidden deep within his mind and his heart.
After four hours of movies, the two of them decided to go to bed, sloppily trudging up the stairs. Gabriel and Dean both stripped to their boxer briefs and climbed into bed, immediately snuggling into one another. Dean placed his nose into Gabrielâs neck and Gabriel wrapped his arms tightly around Dean. He yawned.
âThat was a good day today.â Dean said with a hum.
Gabriel nodded. âI thought so too. I loved hanging out with you.â
âI loved it too.â Dean mumbled under his breath tiredly.
There was silence between the two of them for a while before Dean spoke again.
âWhatâre we going to do tomorrow?â He asked.
Gabriel hummed and rubbed Deanâs back. âSwimming.â He mumbled. âAt the lake.â
Dean whimpered, causing Gabriel to pull him closer.
âYouâll be alright baby.â He said.
âNo,â He grumbled.
âYeah.â He kissed his nose. âJust get some sleep and we will talk and worry about it in the morning.â
Dean nodded. âOkay.â He said. âGoodnight Gabe.â

For @prayforjensen. Happy birthday, Lee! I love you!!
Dean's vision begins fading somewhere around the sixth date. He tells Cas that he should get out now but Cas doesn't budge.Â
He started losing his heart somewhere around the third.
Dean gets glasses. He hates them at first, always laughs and says he looks like a nerd. Cas adores them, loves to take them from Dean to clean the lenses before settling them back on his nose. He likes the way they go crooked on Deanâs face when he falls asleep on the couch, loves the sound they make when Dean sets them on the bedside table right before he turns out the light and kisses Cas goodnight.
The prescriptions steadily get stronger, buying them a little more time. In that time, they whisper their first âI love youâs, Cas moves in, and they travel. Cas takes Dean anywhere and everywhere, from the Atlantic Coast to the Pacific. They stop at the Grand Canyon, drive down to Mexico for a day.Â
When it seems that Deanâs vision will last the fall, they decide to go to Texas for Austin City Limits. They take a few days before Thanksgiving to drive up the east coast and visit some orchards, see a few lighthouses. They spend a night in Marthaâs Vineyard and Dean complains about feeling like some uppity Hartford housewife but he holds Cas close that night as they sit on the beach and watch the stars.Â
Itâs when theyâre in Kansas for the holidays that Dean wakes up, puts on his glasses, and sees so difference. He shakes Cas away, starting to panic.
âEverything is still blurry, C-Cas. Why-why- it shouldnâtâ His breathing becomes ragged and there are tears streaking down his face and Cas cups his chin, heart breaking in his chest as he tries to calm Dean down.Â
âItâs okay, baby. Itâs going to be okay. Just breathe.â
They get through Thanksgiving but Dean asks to go home the next day. The house is quiet as they bring their bags down the stairs, everyone aching to say something, to comfort the man they call son or brother, but they know better.Â
Deanâs goodbyes are hallow and he walks out the door first, leaving Cas alone.
Mary steps toward him, kisses his cheek. âTake care of our boy.â
They donât talk much once they get home. Dean dives into bed and Cas calls the doctor, booking an appointment. He gives Dean the space he needs, only disturbing him when itâs time for dinner. Dean doesnât respond, doesnât stir at all. Cas bites his lip, wants to say more, thinks better of it.
âIâll be out here if you need me.â
He sleeps on the couch that night.
The doctor has no good news in the morning. Deanâs hit his limit. Thereâs no point in prescribing more glasses because his vision is going to dramatically decline each day.Â
âHow long?â Dean asks gruffly.
The doctorâs smile is thin. âIâd say about a month.â
Itâs somehow quieter when they get home, like theyâre barely even breathing. Cas was to say something, wants to promise assurances he doesnât really know. He wants to touch Dean and hold him but itâs like every time it comes close, Dean moves away.Â
He goes into their bedroom. The door closes quietly but still makes Cas flinch like a clap of thunder. He sits on the couch, head in his hands, feeling lost and alone.
Itâs maybe been a half hour when he hears a thump in the bedroom. Cas comes out of the kitchen, eyeing the door suspiciously. When thereâs no other sound he goes to turn around but stops as something crashes. Thereâs another smash like glass breaking and then something hitting the wall and Cas runs, pushing through the door and a photo frame hits his stomach, making him grunt.
Dean stands in the middle of the mess, dropping the lamp in his hand as he stares in Casâs direction. âCas? Oh god, did I- are you-? I-I-â
âItâs okay,â Cas says but Dean starts shaking, shoulders heaving as he bursts into tears.
Cas hurries forward, catching Dean just as he starts to sink, and Cas carries them both to the floor.Â
âI canât see. Cas, I canât see. Itâs gone.â
He doesnât know what to say, canât find the words to soothe Deanâs sobs. So he just holds him, gathers Dean as close to his chest as he can and rocks them back and forth.Â
He doesnât know how long it goes on but at some point Cas drags Dean out of the mess and onto the bed. They lie on their sides, bodies curled toward one another and Cas runs his fingers through Deanâs hair, feels Dean drawing patterns on his hip.
âIâm sorry for hurting you,â Dean whispers.
Cas hums. âIt was just a picture frame.â
âNo, not just the picture frame,â Dean says and tilts his head back, looking Cas in the eyes. âIâm sorry for icing you out. I shouldnât have done that.â
Cas lets his hand drift over Deanâs face, stroking his cheek, running across his lips. âYouâre scared, Dean. Itâs okay.â
âBut you- you donât deserve...â Deanâs eyes pinch shut and he sucks in a deep breath. âYou deserve better.â
Cas bites his lip, fingers walking up the bridge of Deanâs nose to brush his eyelashes. âHow can I do better than the best?â
Dean opens his eyes and Cas thinks he sees tears in them again, a depth of hope Dean doesnât want to dare believe in and a fear Cas can read perfectly clear.
âIâm not going anywhere, Dean,â Cas whispers. âIâm always going to be right here.â
They donât go anywhere for Christmas, just lock themselves away in their tiny apartment. Cas canât help asking if Dean is sure the days leading up to it, because his vision gets darker every day and it wouldnât be a bad idea to see his parents one last time.
Dean says Cas is the only thing he wants to see.Â
They wrap each otherâs presents with their eyes closed and Cas strings white lights all throughout the apartment because Dean likes the way they blur together. He says it makes Cas look like an angel.
When they go to bed Christmas night, Dean asks Cas to leave the lights on and makes him face Dean as he lies down. Cas goes along with it but itâs hard not to want to cover his face with the way Dean just stares at him, never saying a word.Â
âWhat are you doing?â Cas finally asks, smiling awkwardly.
âTrying to memorize your eyes,â Dean says. âDonât want to forget that blue.â
Dean goes completely dark two days after Christmas. It a solemn day but they spend it together, always touching, always assuring one another even if they arenât talking.
The mood brightens little by little as the days pass and itâs Dean who begs Cas to go out for New Years.Â
Cas doesnât deny being more than a little nervous about it. What if they lose track of each other? What if some drunks get too rowdy and hurt Dean somehow? But Dean assures him all will be fine; he has no intention of taking his hands off Cas the entire night.
They decide to celebrate at one of their local spots, snag a table close to one of the speakers so Dean can hear the countdown playing on the TV. A few friends stop by to greet them. Dean can tell who most of them are by voice but there a few who he has to ask Cas about once theyâve walked away. He doesnât tell anyone about his vision, doesnât want their awkward sympathy or drunken pity.Â
He just wants to drink a few beers and kiss his boyfriend at midnight.Â
Five minutes to the drop, the bar starts to quiet down, attention shifting to the television.Â
âYou know, this isnât so bad,â Dean says.
Cas arches a brow, sensing a joke. âYeah?â
âYeah. I mean, itâs all mostly auditory anyway. Just listening to music, the countdown. Then you kiss someone. Say âhappy New Year.â Iâm really not missing much.â
Cas nods, thinks for a minute. âWhat about the fireworks?â
Dean snorts and waves his hand dismissively. âIâm not six, Cas. I can deal without fireworks.â
Cas leans in to kiss his cheek and Dean can feel the curve of his smile.Â
The bartender screams for everyone to be quiet as the countdown starts and the bar practically shakes as all the guests start yelling the numbers.
Ten... nine... eight... seven...
Casâs mouth moves to Deanâs ear and he shivers as Cas whispers, âI love you, Dean.â
Six... five... four...
Dean swallows and scoots as close as he can, hand coming up to cup Casâs jaw.
Three... two...
âI love you too, sweetheart.â
One.
Their lips touch, sliding together perfectly and Dean can taste Casâs beer, can feel Casâs hand clutching his shoulder, can hear the crowd around them hollering and clapping as something booms down the street; far away explosions that incite cheers and Cas grips him tighter, bites his lip, strokes his neck.
And yeah, maybe Dean canât see the fireworks; but he can feel them.
Blind!Dean loving to feel and touch and press kisses all over Sammy's face. :)
yasssssss!!!!!!
nonny, you have no clue how much i love the blind!dean trope. like you really have no clue because itâs like my favorite thing.
so like, it was a hunt and before they were able to kill the witch that they were hunting, the witch cursed dean (maybe because he flirted with one of the girls she was training or something like that. who knows) and sam works hours, days trying to find a cure for this curse. even called rowena (who they were going to have to keep a log for how many things they owed her because it was getting kinda crazy at this point) and she couldnât quite figure out the spell that the witch had used.
so while rowena worked to find a cure for this curse (on her own time because she wasnât about to roll over and just do whatever the winchesters wanted her to do) sam still looked through the bunker archives and at first dean would always want to touch sam.
for years heâs been able to see sam and now all of the sudden he canât and the first time that sam wasnât within touching distance of dean, dean almost had a mini panic attack (not that he would ever admit that). so sam stayed close to dean and dean would spend hours just touching and feeling and pressing kisses to samâs face and yeah, at first it was kinda cute because dean was all the sudden being touchy-feely, wanting to stay close to sam but then dean kept doing it.
and it wasnât like sam didnât like it when dean was touching him because he really really did but it was getting in the way of researching a cure of dean.
sam almost had to keep dean at arms distance when he was researching because there was no way that he would be able to get anything done with his brother on top of him like that but when they went to bed at night, sam didnât object.
heâll let dean touch and feel every inch of his body.
(and iâve actually written one little blind!dean drabble)
"the hell am I supposed to do?" there's a dark chuckle, a warm hand clamped on his shoulder and he feels the squeeze. it's tight and not comforting. he feels the heat from the other man, the way that chuckle rumbles deep in his throat. "simple, you just gotta make him happy. don't make him happy, we kill you. make him happy, you'll be free to go. how does that sound?" hunter asks, dean can feel claws beginning to bury themselves in his skin. dean shivers, swallows. frowns slowly and shakes hunter away. he reaches his hands out to grab at his surroundings, finding the smoothness of a chair, feels the coolness and the light designs. he isn't sure why him of all people, to make a man who's a little rogue happy. well, he's not even a man at this point. feral wolf, all red eyes and black hair. dean doesn't want to apart of this; and if they kill him? who will be looking for a blind omega? a blind omega who's too injured mentally and physically to even be a mate, to make someone /happy/ of all things. dean hears hunter move around to his desk, shuffles some papers he can hear. there's a deep sigh, and the low growl of a warning. he itches at his neck, doesn't want to submit to an asshole alpha; because that's not him. "my nephew is a patient man, well, sometimes...but hey, he usually gets a little angry. he'll probably kill you off faster!" dean frowns again, there's no point in turning and facing this alpha, there's no point in /looking/ at him. "fine, i'll do it." he grunts, feels the atmosphere change slowly. he feels the alpha relax, and maybe he has this smug smirk too. "just make him happy; keep him out of trouble, no falling in love. no mating, got that?" "don't think any alpha wants to have a blind omega as a mate, dean. but i like the confidence you still have," hunter sneers, so amused. (so yeahhhh, the new fic I'm trying to work on at the moment. hopefully I'll finish the first chapter soon and we'll see where we'll go from there. pretty excited to be starting up something new.)
