Subreddit /r/visualnovels and MangaGamer have teamed up together to encourage people to participate in /r/visualnovels’ upcoming fan discussion thread for sci-fi drama Himawari -The Sunflower- by blank-note and Frontwing!

For a limited time, fans can use the promotional code RVNSWKLYDSCHIMAWARI during checkout on the MangaGamer store to get Himawari for a discount for 15% off. This code is usable once per MangaGamer account and cannot be used to purchase Himawari on Steam.

MangaGamer Releases Update Patch for Himawari -The Sunflower-

MangaGamer recently released an update patch for Himawari -The Sunflower- which fixes the following issues within the game:

- Slot 8 in QUICK LOAD/SAVE no longer displays Japanese text. - SCENE SELECT image. - BGM failing or incorrectly looping.

If you are running the game on Steam then the update will be automatically applied by the Steam client. However, if the game was originally purchased on MangaGamer, then you will need to go to your account settings and download the third file listed into where your Himawari installation directory is.

Sci-Fi and Romance Adventure Himawari -The Sunflower- Reaches Western Shores with English Release

Those waiting for the English release of blank-note and Frontwing’s Himawari -The Sunflower- will be pleased to know that the game is now available worldwide on Windows on MangaGamer with a 15% off discount! Himawari -The Sunflower- will also purchasable later today on Steam.

The English release uses assets from Himawari’s CERO C-rated (15+) Japanese Vita remake and also includes full voice acting along with the Komorebi and Kagerou side stories originally included in the PSP release of Himawari.

Synopsis:

Today, we have a translator’s corner from Conjueror!

Hello there. It’s Conjueror, the lead translator of Himawari. I’m not exactly too big on coming up with stuff to write for blogs, but since Himawari both holds a special place in my heart as well as is deeply intertwined with my history as a visual novel reader and translator, I figured if I’d ever write something, it’d have to be for it. I’ve got a review for the actual game coming up on my own blog, so here I thought I could share my brief history with this game and how it led me to this business.

Himawari -The Sunflower- comes out tomorrow on December 9th so make sure you pre-order from the MangaGamer store (NSFW) in order to get a 15% off discount. The English PC version is based off of the CERO C-rated (15+) Japanese Vita remake and it will be available on MangaGamer and Steam on December 9th.

For those curious about what content MangaGamer’s release of Himawari will contain, Conjueror also does discuss some of the differences in content between the Vita remake and the original doujin release in his post:

One final note, since it seems like there were some questions raised in regards to censorship within the game: As some may know, Himawari was first released as a doujin (indie) game almost ten years ago, and after it gained popularity it has been re-worked multiple times. In the process, things like adult content (three scenes in total), some possibly offensive jokes, and underage drinking have been rewritten by the original author to appeal to the mainstream audience a little bit better.

By the time VITA version came out last year, the game has been updated so many times — at this point it had completely redrawn visuals, new music, voice-acting, and more polished writing — the original doujin game comes off more like a draft in comparison to what the author considers the final product right now. Not to mention, the two are considered two different games as far as localization rights and expenses are concerned.

I have been working with the author when I translated the game, and while I originally planned to bring some things back from the original version he has convinced me to keep most of the changes he introduced over the years, with only minor tweaks on my part. No additional changes were made to the game or script to censor it for Steam or a Western audience in general.
