Once I upon a time, I made the Moon my stepping stone. They stole everything - and so I had to go. For years this Black boy, suspended in space, flirted with curiosity & made home in mystery. Found self in quiet. When it was time to return to Earth, I did not fall through atmospheres as some would suggest. Here is the truth: I rose. There was no descent. I rose like waves in water, I rose like roots in trees. The last task I had to complete before touching ground was to take Time as my weapon. Reclaiming it from those thieves, I chose Image as its form - like Music, the Image links itself with our lived minds & bodies almost immediately. I thought, going back to Earth, we could use some healing where images are concerned. Back here for a number of years now - my feet the color of dirt, molasses sugar, and vanilla - this past weekend, among fellow image-weavers, my story was captured. I remember as a kid, I dreamt so vividly about rising. Rising, as mountains seem to do, from flower-beds below to black Stars & red Suns above. If only he, the younger V, could see himself now, at this new beginning: proud. * * * * * Portrait by @365ken.
