Dignity is a sculpture on a bluff overlooking the Missouri River near Chamberlain, South Dakota. The 50-foot high stainless steel statue, by South Dakota artist laureate Dale Lamphere, depicts an Indigenous woman in Plains-style dress receiving a star quilt. According to Lamphere, the sculpture honors the culture of the Lakota and Dakota peoples who are indigenous to South Dakota. SHARE!

RESIST THE #NODAPL GRAND JURY

An inspiring show of solidarity today outside the court in Bismarck, where Steve Martinez made clear his intention to refuse to cooperate with a federal grand jury that is investigating Water Protectors. Steve made a statement to supporters outside before heading in:

My name is Steve Martinez. I have been subpoenaed to this federal grand jury. I refuse to cooperate with these proceedings on the grounds of not helping opposition towards water protectors. I will in no way condone or cooperate with this attempt to repress the movement here at Standing Rock. I know that by refusing to cooperate I will most likely be incarcerated. The loss of my own freedom is a small price to pay for keeping my dignity and standing up for what is right- the defense of the earth and all that is sacred. Mni Wiconi!

Steve Martinez then emerged from the federal courthouse in Bismarck, ND after being issued a federal grand jury subpoena. The judge denied the motion to quash the subpoena. His next court date is February 1st.

Rattler’s home is at Pine Ridge and he comes from a long legacy of struggle that he continued at Standing Rock against the Dakota Access Pipeline and it’s world. Charles Jordan has been held in Morton County Jail since November 17th, 2016 on three state felony charges. He was initially ineligible for bond and his current conditions of release set by the court are unable to be met at this time. His brutal arrest is not the only time Morton County Sheriffs enacted such violence on Water Protectors. We have received reports of continued mistreatment while in custody including lack of medical services and hygiene access for weeks at a time. Please send Charles a letter letting him know that he is not alone!

Steve Martin has been locked up on charges related to the Ferguson Uprising for the last 2 1/2 years. Steve has claimed his innocence from the start and has courageously been fighting his charges, seeking a trial. His trial is finally coming up on February 21st and he’s facing 7 years. He needs us to show up and support!
