My friend and I were talkin Tokyo Ghoul last night and we both kinda realized that neither of us are really sure what Furuta's goals/motives are. Would you happen to have any insight on that?
Ah, Furuta`s end goals are an interesting topic and have been (and still are) debated and talked about a lot inside the fandom. I have read and thought about this a lot, so my reply will likely be a bit of a mess, but hang on mate!Â
Way back when the Rue Arc was still going on, Eto asked what Furuta wants to achieve and then he replied: “Super Peace!” That did not tell too much about his goals, and later on in chapter 101 where he chats with Kaneki, he at least seems to tell his plan how to achieve this.Â
Furuta seemingly wants to paint Kaneki, the current One-Eyed-King, as monster, the public enemy number 1 basically. This is kind of tactic is something V/ the Washuu have been doing for years. They have moved the public`s attention to some they label as an enemy, and then have had the CCG take them out. Furuta wants to move the public`s attention towards Kaneki. It is a bit unsure if Furuta cares about coexistence of the two species, and I think he does not really give a damn about that.Â
Furuta wanting an public enemy number 1 at the end is something we see again in chapter 128 where he states his plans:
A last boss, something to end it all.Â
I think the goal of all this is to have an “end”. Furuta wants the destruction of the current world. I am not sure if it`s in a similar fashion with Eto where something new would rise from the ashes.
Notice also how when Uta asks if this “last boss” will be the end of Kaneki´s group or either the CCG, Furuta avoids the question. I think what Furuta wants is to end both factions (or at least one of them), thus ensuring the destruction of current world order. The downfall of the CCG has already begun, and when Furuta came to be Bureay Chief, it was said that he was the last. Furuta has also woken the deep, violent undertones inside the CCG, and thus made the world so that no ghoul, or a human who helps them can live, can live. So CCG`s end is approaching fast.Â
It´s also interesting that in that same chapter Furuta talks about how “the Washuu have been staying their hand.” It kind implies that if the Washuu had wanted, they could have been way more destructive towards ghouls. It is theorized that the reason why ghouls have not been exterminated all together is that the CCG, and then Washuu would have lost it`s place in the society. The Washuu needed and enemy so that they would stay in power, since if you have an enemy, you need something to counter it. So what the Washuu wanted was the status quo, and that is what Furuta will change, but in a very destructive manner.Â
So what is the last boss, aka the “Dragon” then which will bring the end? Folks are not 100% sure. Linkspooky talks about the various Dragon theories in this post, and I highly recommend checking it out! It is worth noting that a lot of folks think (myself included) that Furuta actually does not plan to live long after the Dragon is summoned.Â
So to sum this up so that this mess will make at least some bit of sense:
-Furuta wants Super Peace
- The manner how this is achieved is to have an horrible public enemy, to who the public´s attention is moved to.Â
- This public enemy will act as the Last Boss.Â
- This public enemy, and Furuta`s actions as the current Bureau Chief, ensure the destruction of the current world order. So what “super peace” means is the destruction of the current world, an end.
This was a bit of a mess, but I hope this helped at least in some way.
