- ANCIENT BLACK BUDDHA - The statues of ancient Buddahs of the East depected him as having wolly hair is always shown in corn rows, or in a pepper corn style with small tight curls. Original statues of Buddha clearly show him to be Africoid, with the wide nose, thick lips and frizzy, nappy, hair which are distinctive Negro characteristics. In most ancient temples throughout Asia where he is still worshipped, he is shown as jet Black. Here’s to the poem I wanted to write but couldn’t; I was gonna title it “Black Buddha.” I got the title name from ppl I have helped over the years. They all at some point called me that. It was gonna be a poem centered around my experiences this 2017 year. A year I felt I grew a lot and made greater positive strides. A year where I found love, lost love, heartbreak, healing, reconnected with ppl, connected deeper with others, found success and took L’s. Lessons learned you know? A year I thought too deeply too often but also lived in the moment. A year where I felt I ultimately “put on” for those I love and care for and did the damn thing; essentially the human embodiment of the giving tree. A year I realized how energizing and how utterly exhausting ppl can be; but it was a year that helped me keep in focus what was important. What to take seriously as a big deal and what to shrug off as insignificant or small. I wanted to write this poem for y’all and for myself but I couldn’t. I wanted it to be this dope ass capstone piece that resonated heavy with those who read it but hey...writers block. So I can’t write it just yet but, hopefully in the future. Of another year in the time to come where I find the proper words to formulate something poetic and true. Until then y’all got this vent piece....I did well this year, now I just have to remain focused, humble, and diligent. Most importantly–(com)passionate.
