Rainy Day
‘Shit. I told him to wait,’ Bakugou cursed at the pouring rain outside their window. He was in the middle of making dinner when he noticed they ran out of few ingredients he needed. Because if he didn’t have the time to keep track of their groceries, no one did. What are two boyfriends good for if none of them can move his lazy ass to the store?
Denki must have felt guilty enough to volunteer for a quick trip to the store, even though Bakugou warned him it was going to rain soon.
‘It’s just a rain Katsuki,’ Kirishima pointed out.
‘He has fucking electricity inside him,’ Bakugou hissed, squeezing the spatula in his hand so hard it started to bend. Kirishima stood up from his paperwork on the kitchen table and eased the wooden spatula out of his hand before he snapped it in half.
‘Honey, as much as I’m happy that you care about us, you need to remember we’re no longer in high school,’ he pointed out while stirring the food, now hip to hip with his boyfriend. He put the spatula aside to turn towards him. ‘We are adults now, we work as pro heroes and we can handle our quirks much better. You have to stop worrying. You’re gonna have enough wrinkles as it is.’ He smiled, putting his hands on Katsuki’s face and easing his frown and all the tense muscles with his fingers. Bakugou exhaled. ‘It’s rain, not villain ambush. Have some faith in him.’
Bakugou huffed. ‘I know. Sorry.’ He reached up cupping Kirishima’s fingers in his hand and brought them to his mouth to kiss his knuckles. ‘I just don’t like having you out of my sight where I can’t protect you.’
‘I heard that!’ Came from the direction of the door and Katsuki groaned, but there was a relieved smile pulling at the corner of his lips.
‘See, he’s fine.’ Kirishima patted his shoulder and gave him a quick peck on the lips to ease the last strands of his worry. Then he went to take the groceries from Kaminari, his quirk making it a little bit easier in case of accidental electrocution. The sound of muffled voices followed.
‘I hear you whispering!’ yelled Bakugou, stirring the food. They both chuckled and then Kirishima entered the kitchen to put the groceries on the table so Katsuki could use them.
‘I’ve heard you were worried about me.’ Kaminari threw him a shit eating grin from the doorframe. Bakugou glared at him.
‘Yeah, so what. Go dry off before you fuck with the lighting again.’
‘That was once.’
‘You blew up all the light bulbs.’
Kaminari groaned but Kirishima shushed him out of the kitchen before he could say anything else.
‘Go, I’ll help you dry off,’ he offered because it was much safer to do so when he was the one holding the drier and not the living soaked charger.
Kirishima grabbed some dry clothes for Kaminari while he was peeling off his wet ones. When his boyfriend was wrapped in a big fluffy towel and seated on the edge of bathtub he started drying his hair. When it turned from soaking wet to barely damp he started combing it with his fingers and massaging his scalp, which earned him a pleased sigh and made Denki lean into the touch. Kirishima didn’t stop when he turned the drier off and put it away. Now he was running both his hands through the blond hair.
‘Can I braid them for you?’
Kaminari nodded in approval, happy to get more attention and soft touches. He was so invested in the combing, scratching and massaging it felt like barely a minute have passed when Kirishima said ‘done’ and softly caressed his neck. Kaminari looked up pouting, and got a soft kiss as a consolation. When Kirishima pulled away, he grabbed his t-shirt to pull him back in.
‘I’m so lucky to have you,’ he murmured. He remembered years ago trying to dry himself on his own, when he was young and barely had any control of his quirk. Now it wasn’t a problem, usually, but it was still nice to have someone to take care of him in little ways.
‘We are lucky to have you,’ Kirishima corrected him with a smile, moving in front of him to squash his cheeks between his palms. ‘You are so beautiful and reliable and one of the two best boyfriends I’ve ever had!’ Kaminari laughed at that, although his ears turned dark pink, eyes watery.
‘We’re all lucky we found each other, dumbasses,’ came suddenly from the bathroom door, making them both jump in surprise and almost topple over into the bathtub. ‘You know, getting into UA in the same year in the same class. I mean, what are the odds.’ Katsuki shrugged, leaning on the doorframe. His cheeks were dusted pink. ‘But yeah that too I guess.’
‘You’re both so fucking cheesy oh my god,’ Kaminari groaned, his voice strained with emotion and the fact that Kirishima was still squeezing his cheeks.
Therefore, he was quick to notice the wetness on his fingers.
‘Denki, are you crying?’ he noted slightly panicky, sweeping the tears with his thumbs, letting his cheeks loose.
‘I just love you so much,’ Kaminari sobbed, his voice barely a whisper, overwhelmed with affection. Kirishima felt his own eyes sting.
‘We love you too, Denki,’ he choked out, kissing his wobbly smile.
‘Oh my god,’ Bakugou growled, but his voice was strained too. He unfolded his arms and pushed away from the doorframe to approach them. ‘We’ve been together for two years of course we love each other,’ he mumbled, tracing the braid on Denki’s head. When he looked up, Kirishima’s hands slipping to his shoulders, Bakugou leaned down and kissed him, slow and sweet to make sure Denki understood him.
Then he hauled him up without warning, making him shriek and grab the towel that started to slip off. Kirishima chuckled.
‘Like I haven’t seen it before.’ Bakugou rolled his eyes.
Kaminari shrugged at this and let the towel drop to his ankles, skipping to the dry clothes waiting for him on the washing machine.
Bakugou turned to Kirishima, who looked at him with affection and pride at how far his boyfriend has come, his eyes shining wetly in the bathroom light. The stray tear that rolled down his cheek make the blonde’s throat close up. He swiped it away and leaned for a kiss to prevent his own tears from falling.
He failed, so he pulled back and turned his head away. Kirishima slipped his hand into his, lacing their fingers together and squeezing to remind him it was okay to cry.
And Bakugou knew it now, and he knew it didn’t mean someone was weak. He still wasn’t a fan. But he was okay with it.
He pulled down the t-shirt Kaminari was struggling to get on and grumbled out that ‘dinner is getting cold.’ Which was what he came here to tell them in the first place but of course they had to turn it into some kind of water festival. Katsuki didn’t mind. He have noticed rain did that to people sometimes. Him included.
He grabbed Kaminari’s hand too, letting him lead them out of the bathroom. They grabbed a box of tissues before sitting down to eat, sniffling, smiling and wiping each other’s cheeks. Kaminari trailed off about someone he met at the grocery to prevent them falling into tears again. They were all hungry after all.
They sat down close to each other, the room dark from all the clouds outside, the sound of rain and smell of wet pavements coming from the cracked windows overlapping with the clutter of dishes and the scent of spices.
They mostly in silence, each of them in their own body but feeling like one, united by love and the warmth of the atmosphere around them and within them. They didn’t need the background sound of TV or radio, or a conversation to focus on, because that wasn’t what comprised their home. Home was the in the space between them, in the bond so overwhelming with love they sometimes just sat together cherishing their shared past, the moment, and the future to come.
