bkau rancher doodles as a treat for making it through this week hahaha. I love @applestrudaâs designs for them and the da vinci style wing prosthetic concept is super cool. Bonus tango below cut
"Instantly she swung at him, hard and fast, looking to get a clean kill. To her astonishment, however, he suddenly disappeared within a blink of an eye, reappearing once more just as fast and now on top of the counter. Gem watched as a dark, smoky substance wafted off him as he jumped down and dissipated as quickly as it appeared. "
drew a scene from my boatem knights fic!! you can read it here on tumblr or on ao3!
This story is set in @applestruda's boatem knights au! I've wanted to write something with Gem for a while, so here it is!

Itâs been so long since her last bounty, and Gem is itching for a fight.Â
This much, she tells Cleo while watching the armorer work on their newest project. Gemâs frequent visits had allowed the two to grow close over the course of her bounty hunting career, to the point where it wasnât always business that brought her there. Sometimes, it was just for casual conversation, or just because Gem was bored or passing through the area.Â
Cleo raises an eyebrow, not looking up from her work. âTell you what,â she begins, turning the chest plate slightly so that it could catch the light, âitâs all well and good that you want a fight until you get yourself caught up in one you canât win.âÂ
Gem scoffs at that as she leans against the counter. âOh, I never lose. You don't need to worry about me, Cleo.â
âThatâs what Etho kept saying, before you chopped his damn head off.âÂ
Rolling her eyes, Gem flicks her braid behind her shoulder. âThat was Etho. And, as you clearly havenât forgotten, I was the one who did the chopping there. So thanks, but I think Iâm good.â
Cleo chuckles. âYeah, yeah. Just return here in one piece, alright? I canât be losing my best customer.â
Gem sets her elbows on the counter, leaning forward with a cheery grin. âBest customer and best friend?âÂ
âGet out.â
And so Gem finds herself wandering back to the kingdom of Dogwarts, in search of work and a fight. Maybe both. For her, it usually was. Itâs why she chose this path of employment, of courseâ one didnât just stumble into becoming a bounty hunter. Unless they were particularly skilled at said stumbling, of course.Â
Itâs been a while since Gemâs been in the bustling kingdom, and the stark difference between the outer lands and the kingdom always amazes her. She knew that the kingdom boasted the most prestigious redstone academy in the continent, but itâs another thing entirely to see that in action.Â
Compared to the sparse population of the outer lands, the kingdom is a bustling city full of people. They continue to add on new developments each year, the construction drawing even more people to the kingdom for work on top of the people already moving in. It was certainly a far cry from the occasional village Gem stumbled upon in the outer lands.
The other difference that really stood out to her was the difference in how prevalent magic was. In the outer lands, magic is everywhereâ from daily tasks to impressive feats, it was impossible to go one day without seeing some sort of spell. In the kingdom, itâs a lot more common to see redstone inventions being used in place of magic, though magic is still used. It was much more noticeable to Gem, who travels back and forth frequently between the two extremes.Â
It wasnât long before Gem ends up making her way into the local tavern, the place where she found most of the jobs she took. Itâs rowdy as ever, and she finds herself missing the quiet of her friendâs tavern. Nevertheless, she quickly finds her usual seat and orders her usual drink, greeting the bartender with a tired smile.Â
âAnything new?â she asks after a few minutes, when the bartender wasnât so swamped with orders.Â
The bartender shrugs. âNot really? But there was something that caught my eye.â They set down their glass for a moment and duck below the bar, grabbing a paper and placing it in front of Gem. âAn older one, but itâs resurfaced recently with everyone cleaning out all the more urgent ones.â With that, the bartender gives her a pointed look, to which she responds with a laugh. âAnyway. A runaway who destroyed a very important lab of the king and escaped on foot with precious redstone and technology. Heâs assumed to be armed and very dangerous.â
Gem pulls the paper to her, looking it over closely. It seemed to be an average bountyâ especially for who had put it out. The manâs face is inked in an artistic depiction of him beneath his âWANTEDâ notice and list of crimes. What most stands out to her is his incredibly sharp mustache and scruffy beard. âMm⊠I see. And this was put out by the kingâs advisor himself? Iâm surprised itâs gone unclaimed for so long.â
The bartender shrugs, continuing to go about their job as they converse with Gem. âI think most people were daunted by the task. That, and those who tried to find this man simply couldnât. Heâs a slippery fellow, so Iâve been told.â
Gem laughs, her eyes not leaving the manâs inked face. âWell, Iâve been told I have quite the talent for catching those who hide in the shadows.â Quite literally, if she thought back to her last big job. Which, while it had technically ended in success, isnât really something she wants to go through again.Â
Gem had not signed up for magical creatures that revived when you cut off their heads. A simple redstone thief with a penchant for explosions? Yeah, she had this one in the bag.Â
âIâll take it,â she tells the bartender, folding up the paper and sticking it into her bag. âSounds like a fun little job.âÂ
The bartender chuckles, shaking their head. âHow long do you think this oneâs going to take you?â they ask, already knowing Gemâs answer.Â
âA month, tops.â She says this with the same confident smile that she always wears when going out on jobs. âAny more than that, and I owe you a drink.â
The bartender throws a towel over their shoulder, laughing. âWell, canât wait for that to never happen. Iâm sure youâll be back even sooner than we expect as usual, with a story to tell.â
Finishing her drink, Gem stands back up. âI never disappoint,â she promises, sliding the payment for her drink over the table. âIâll see you then! And thanks for the tip!â she calls, making her way out of the tavern.
It was time to go hunt down a redstoner.Â
It actually isn't as hard as she thought.Â
The manâ Mumbo, his name isâ has made a name for himself in the outer lands to the North. Gem can't help but be a little surprised. She's never had a bounty with such mixed public opinion; some people absolutely love him, while others want his head to roll.Â
âThat man?â Someone had scoffed when she asked, shaking their head. âVoid below, I can't stand him. He's a genius, sure, but the noise he makes!â They had clicked their tongue disapprovingly. âAnd when I complained about it and asked him to be a little more quiet, he threw bricks through my window!â
Another personâ a young womanâ had a dreamy expression when Gem asked her about Mumbo. âHe's such a cute knight! One time, he helped me get my cat down from a treeâŠâÂ
Her friend had raised an eyebrow. âClara, he climbed up into the tree and fell off of it. Your cat got down all on her own.â
Clara hadn't responded, lost in her daydreaming.
The more she asks around, the more mixed answers she receives.Â
Gem couldn't help but laugh at that. This bounty would be interesting, if nothing else.Â
She finds the camp easily enough. All she has to do is ask where the knights are, and she's pointed in the right direction. It's almost a full day on footâ she leaves her horse at the nearest village to be more stealthy.Â
Itâs getting colder out. The leaves are beginning to shift from green to yellow and orange, sparks of red standing out amongst the others. Gemâs feet crunch against the ground as she travels down the path, hands stuck in her pockets to keep them warm.Â
Sheâs been wandering around the area for about a week now, gathering intel on the group. From what she can tell, theyâre a close group of four friends: Impulse, Grian, Scar, and her target, Mumbo. She doesnât get close enough to really hear them talking. Sheâd heard of aviansâ enhanced hearing and doesnât want to take her chances with getting too close. If the stories sheâd heard were true, she didnât want to get caught by these guys. Especially given what she was here to do.
At one point, she got a little closer to the camp to listen in on a conversation. She had an extra invisibility potion, and she figured she could put it to use for this job. Though she knew enough about the so-called âknightsâ, more information couldnât hurt.Â
The one with brown hair and a very stabbable chestâ his name is Scar, she recallsâ leans against Grian, the avian of the group. âSo, the plan is to head out tomorrow?â
Impulse nods. âYep. Youâre good to stay behind to keep Pearl company, Mumbo?â
Mumbo leans forward, his hands folded in front of him on the table. He looks so polite when he speaks that Gem can hardly believe heâs a hardened criminal. âOf course! Iâll make sure she doesnât get too lonely.â
Gem frowns at that, but quickly shakes away the uncertainty. If there was another person here, she wouldâve seen them by now. Pearl is probably the dog that was prowling around the camp.
Grian sighs and pushes Scar off him, standing up. âWell, Iâm absolutely shattered, so Iâm going to bed. We gotta get up early if weâre gonna be traveling tomorrow.â He looks up, gaze sweeping over the knights and then around the camp.Â
At the same time, the wind shifts, and Scar stiffens. His eyes meet Gemâs. Gem sucks in a breath, and has to check to make sure her invisibility potion is still working.Â
It is, but it doesnât stop her from shivering as Scarâs gaze lingers, then pulls away.
After a moment, Scar stands, putting on a fake pouty face. âAww, okay. Goodnight, G! Night, Impulse. Night, Mumbo!âÂ
A chorus of goodnights echoes from the group, and Gem slips away unnoticed.Â
The forest is anything but quiet at night. Gem is safe up in the trees, and sleep comes easy to her after years of travel, but she remembers her first year of adventuring and the hellish noises that kept her up for hours.
A skeleton rattles below. Further away, a zombie groans. Gem leans against the tree and closes her eyes.
Gem rises with the sun and to the rhythmic sound of horse hooves against well-packed dirt. She exhales, breath turning to fog, before stretching. She turns her head to the side, tracking the sound of hooves. Only when it fades off into the distance does she untie herself from the branch and jump down, finally able to stretch fully.
She takes an hour or two to wake up and gather all her things. Itâs almost midday by the time she sheathes her sword after warming up and begins her trek to the camp. It likely wonât come down to a fight, from what she knows about Mumbo, but one can never be too careful. She knows not to underestimate an enemy.
It is somewhat pathetic that sheâs able to walk up right behind him without him even noticing, but Gem chalks that up to her being very good at her job.
âHey there, Mumbo!â she greets, and canât help but laugh as he shrieks and falls over backwards. âOop, careful! Donât hurt yourself.â
Mumbo scrambles back and to his feet, looking up at Gem with wide eyes. âWhatâ what on earthâ who are you?! How do you know my name?â
Gem tilts her head to the side, keeping the smile on her face. âIâm Gem. Nice to meet you.â She takes a step forward. âKing Ren placed a bounty on your head, and Iâm here to collect! Do you want to come with me willingly, orâŠ?â She places a hand on the hilt of her sword.
Mumbo pales. âWell, look, okay, thereâs been a misunderstanding!â He holds his hands up as he steps back, eyes darting around wildly. âThereâs no need for violence! Iâm a very peace loving guy! Peace, love, and plants, yâknow!â
Gem raises an eyebrow. âBy force, then! Thatâs cool!â She draws her sword.
Mumbo does what any average person would doâ scream, then run away.
Gem, of course, chases. Itâs easy enough to catch up to Mumbo and trip him, sending the taller man falling to the ground with another shriek. She quickly puts her sword to Mumboâs throat, and he freezes.
â...please donât kill me?â he asks after a moment, chest heaving as he stares up at her. âI donât, I wonât lie to you, I donât particularly want to die?âÂ
Gem laughs, shaking her head. âIâm not going to kill you. I just need to bring you back to the king so I can collect your bounty!â She pulls her sword away, twirling it in her hand. âWhatever happens to you after is on him, not me.â She tilts her head. âAlso, didn't you have a beard?â
Mumbo blinks. âWhat? No, Iâ hold on, a beard?! I know they always get my mustache wrong, but a beard? And what do you mean, a bounty?â
Gem puts her sword back at Mumboâs throat. âI think they have to hire a new portrait artist. Anyway! I need to take you to the King, so I can get paid, and you can be brought to justice, et cetera.â
âBut we can talk about this!â Mumbo pleads. âSurely I could pay you or something, I have quite a lot of things, Iâ!â
The only warning Gem is given is Mumboâs gaze darting to the side. Someone slams into her, sending her stumbling away.
Gem turns and sweeps her sword out in time to block the blade of a scythe. The impact jars both her and her attacker, giving Gem enough time to reorient herself.
The woman straightens up, and her fever-clouded eyes focus on Gem. Her wings are flared out, displaying eyespots that stare down at Gem. âWhy are ya messinâ with my knights?âÂ
From where heâs fallen, Mumbo yelps, âPearl!â
Ah. So this is the Pearl they had been talking about. Gem curses herself for making assumptions, then tightens her grip on her sword and grins. âYou wanna fight? Fantastic!âÂ
Pearl lets out a sharp breath, and Gem doesnât fail to notice how her hands tremble slightly holding her scythe. âNot very fair of you to attack Mumbo while heâs all alone, don't ya think?â
Gem laughs as she shifts into a fighting stance. âIâd say itâs more fair than a 2v1!â
âIâm staying out of this!â Mumbo interjects, continuing to back away. âGood luck, Pearl!â
Pearl tilts her head. âThat fair enough for you?â She doesnât wait for Gem to answer, folding her wings tight against her back and lunging for her.Â
Itâs been a while since Gemâs had a good fight. Since Etho, she thinks, though the fight with him had been made interesting by his strange abilities with shadows and ice. Pearl isn't using any magicâ it's pure skill that Gem is fighting against, and it's been a while since she's fought anyone like this.Â
As the fight goes on, though, it becomes more clear to Gem just how unfocused Pearl is. By the looks of it, she'd just rolled out of bed when Mumbo screamed. Gem shakes away any doubts about fighting someone who is clearly ill as she blocks a strike that would've taken her arm off.Â
âWow!â she exclaims, ducking and stepping to the side as Pearl's scythe sweeps over her, âyou're really going all out, huh?âÂ
Pearl laughs in response to that, as if they were two friends sparring for fun. âYou were attacking my Mumbo! âcourse I'm goinâ all out!â
Gem swings out with her sword again, catching Pearl's leg with her blade. âYour Mumbo is a wanted criminal!â
Pearl yelps and stumbles back. She holds out her scythe in a defensive position.
Gem takes a moment to catch her breath, staring at Pearl. âIt'd be best if you just hand Mumbo over! I promise I won't hurt him!â
Pearl shakes her head. âAbsolutely not, mate! Mumbo is family!âÂ
Gem shrugs. âYour grave, then!âÂ
She lunges.Â
The fight has a sort of rhythm to it. Gem lunges, Pearl blocks. Pearl slices with her scythe, Gem dodges. The rhythm is only broken by Pearl occasionally stumblingâ which Gem takes advantage of to strike out and nick Pearl. She's never able to make too deep a cut, and Pearl gets her back plenty of times, but she lands enough hits to start feeling much better about her chances of winning.Â
...and then she's on the ground, dew soaking into her clothes as she lies there. Her sword is gone, fallen out of her hand in the struggle.Â
She looks up at Pearl, who stands above her. Her cheeks are reddened by exertion and fever, her hair is cascading over her shoulders in messy waves, and most infuriatingly there is a smile on her lips even as she holds her scythe to Gem's throat.Â
Gem doesn't move. She waits, with bated breath, for Pearl to kill her.
Instead, Pearl sheathes her scythe and bends down, holding out a hand. âThere ya go, mate, let's get you back on your feet.â
Gem blinks. âWhat?â
Pearl tilts her head in confusion. âI'm helping you up. Did you hit your head?â
Gem frowns. âNo, I justâ why aren't you killing me?â She takes Pearlâs hand anyway.
Pearl raises an eyebrow, pulling Gem to her feet. âWould you have killed me if I lost?â She grins when Gem shakes her head. âThought so.â
Mumbo peeks out from the tree he hid behind, giving Pearl a little wave. âYou don't want to kidnap me anymore?â
Gem groans, grabbing her bloodied sword and wiping it on the grass before sheathing it. âI miscalculated. Thought you were alone and Pearl was the big dog I saw wandering around camp. Turns out, I was wrong.â
Pearl laughs. âTilly! No, no, she's my lovely puppy.â
âWolf,â Mumbo corrects quietly, âshe's a wolf, Pearl.âÂ
Pearl shrugs, then looks over at Gem. âWell, if youâre gonna stick around, we have some soup I can heat up? You can tell us all about why youâre here, and maybe Iâll be able to give ya somethinâ for your time.â
Gem lets out a disbelieving laugh. âYeah. Sure. Sure, why not. This day couldnât get any more crazy, I think.â
Mumbo, who had slowly been inching closer to the two while they were talking, is quick to grab Pearl when she tries to walk and stumbles. âPearl! Wait, hold on, Iâll help you over, but you have got to sit down after that. Iâll heat up the soup and get you some bandages.âÂ
âAlright, alrightâŠâ Pearl slings an arm over Mumboâs shoulders, and gestures for Gem to follow them. âOof, that took a lot out of me, actually.â She glances back at Gem. âYouâre good. Whereâd you learn to fight like that?â
Gem snorts, following them across the camp. âI could ask you the same question. Youâre insane.âÂ
Mumbo helps Pearl sit down on the bench. Gem hesitates, then takes the seat across from Pearl, watching as Mumbo grabs a large covered container of soup. âHonestly,â he says, âPearlâs one of the strongest people I know. Everyone here is, but Pearl and Impulseââ he laughs, putting the container on what looks to be a type of redstone warming gadgetâ âtheyâre incredible.âÂ
Pearl giggles. âAww, Mumbo! Youâre too kind, mate.â She closes her eyes and lets out a breath. âYou mind gettinâ those bandages? Iâm startinâ to feel a little hurt here.â
Gem grimaces. âMy bad! You got me good in a few places too, though.â
Pearl nods, giving Gem a bright smile. âDang right I did! Mumbo, can you get some extra bandages for our new friend here?â
Mumbo nods, bending down to open a different wooden container and pulling out some bandages and a dry towel. âHer nameâs Gem, by the way. Introduced herself to me before chasing me down.âÂ
âThatâs nice,â Pearl quips, âgood to let your victims know who they have the pleasure of beinâ killed by, at the very least.â
Gem blushes. âI wasnât going to kill him! Honestly! I was just going to bring him back to King Ren, and even then he was probably just gonna be put in jail or something!â
Mumbo sits next to Pearl and begins to dab at the cuts with the towel. âI donât really want to go to jail?â He hands a roll of bandages and a towel to Gem, who begins to take care of her own wounds.
âWeâd break you out,â Pearl assures him, then turns to look at Gem. âRight. This bounty, tell me about it? You said King Ren put it out?â
Gem glances at Mumbo. âHonestly, I think itâd be better hearing it from his side, first. I wasnât there for the whole reason the bounty was placed.â
Mumbo looks up from where he was wrapping Pearlâs wounds. âOh! Well, uh, you see. So, I guess, I accidentally blew up one of his labs? I was making something, canât really remember what it was, and well. Kaboom! Blew it all to smithereens, unfortunately. And because I wasnât really supposed to be there, they didnât really have a lot of sympathy for me.â He grabs Pearlâs hand and pulls her other arm up so he can tend to the wounds on it. âSo! I ran!â
âAre our things at risk of blowing up, then?â Pearl asks, looking pointedly at the redstone machine that was warming up the soup. Her wings flutter slightly.Â
Mumbo shrugs. âProbably not. I mean, Iâm much more careful now. I donât use things until Iâm like⊠99% sure they wonât blow up.â
Gem raises an eyebrow. âThatâs a whole 1% of uncertainty.â
Pearl laughs, pulling her arm back once Mumbo finishes bandaging up her cuts. âBetter than 2%! Iâll take it.âÂ
Mumbo hands Pearl the roll of bandages and stands up to check on the soup. It must be done, because he carefully takes the container off the heating gadget and grabs some bowls and spoons from yet another wooden container. After rifling through the container for another minute, he pulls out a ladle with a triumphant sound and stands back up. âSoupâs ready!â
Once the soup is ladled into every bowl and placed on the table, Mumbo sits back down. âYou alright, Pearl?â he murmurs, to which Pearl nods.Â
âJust a lil dizzy,â she responds, âbut thatâsâ probably fine. I should get back to bed soon, probably.â
âEat your soup first, at least.â Mumbo looks up at Gem. âAnd, well, I guess we should hear your side of this whole thing, huh?â
Gem sighs, taking a sip of her soup before leaning back. âWell, I was looking for another job and yours came up. I figured itâd be pretty easy to grab you and bring you back to the King, and then Iâd be set for the next couple months with the reward.â She laughs softly. âTo be honest, I didnât even think I was going to have to fight.â
Mumbo makes a sad noise. âI wouldâve fought back!â he protests, âyou just startled me!â
âOh, Iâm sure you wouldâve!â Gem agrees. âYou just wouldâve lost.â
Pearl chuckles. âBe nice to Mumbo! Heâs a very skilled tactician.â She has some more soup before leaning forward, resting her elbows on the table. âWhat are your plans now?â
Gem shrugs. âI wasnât hired for this job, so it doesnât really matter if I complete it or not. The money wouldâve been nice, but my reputation wonât take a blow because of this.â She thinks for a moment, humming softly in contemplation. âHonestly, I might just spend a while up around here to see if any of the nearby villages have jobs for me, if anything. Or I might head to the city to look for more bounties.â She eats some more soup. Itâs very good, made with potatoes and bacon and cheese, and itâs slightly spicy nature has her feeling warm despite the cold autumn weather.
âOh! Speaking of, youâre going to want to keep an eye on this guyââ She gestures at Mumboâ âfor a bit, or speak to King Ren about his bounty. Otherwise, some other hunter who isnât as nice as me might pick up his bounty.âÂ
Mumboâs eyes widen. âWell. I donât really want that to happen!â
Pearl nods. âYeah, that makes sense⊠Iâll speak with the others when they get back and weâll see about making a trip there. If thatâs okay with you?â She directs the question to Mumbo, who holds up his hands and shakes his head.
âI dunno! Do whatever you think is best, mate. It would be nice to get the bounty off my head so we donât have to worry about people coming to camp.â Mumbo looks a little downtrodden as he speaks, crossing his arms and looking away. âI mean, look at what happened. Youâre hurt, and Grianâs probably going to rip my arm off for it!â
Gem inhales sharply. âI might want to head out then, if you have a friend whoâs gonna react like thatâŠâ
Pearl laughs. âNo, Mumboâs jokingâ Grian canât and wonât do that, not to Mumbo. And even if he wanted to do that to someone, I still donât think he could.â She finishes her soup and leans against Mumbo. âIt might be good for you to skedaddle before everyone gets back, though. We can introduce you at another time, when you havenât just injured me while Iâm ill and supposed to be resting.â
Mumbo chuckles nervously, letting Pearl lean against him. âYeahhh⊠I canât imagine thatâll go down too well with the others. Even if you are friendly now.â
Gem takes the last bite of her soup, and sets her spoon in the bowl. âI canât imagine it would, I really canât. Thank you for the soup and bandages, butââ
Before sheâs able to finish speaking, Pearl jumps up from the table. âWait! Hold on, I have something for you.â She takes a few steps away, then turns back and grabs Mumboâs hand. âSorry, taking this guy with meâ still donât really trust you. Stay right there!â
Gem waves her hand, slightly confused. âThatâs fair! Iâll be here.âÂ
They return after a few minutes, with Pearl holding a few things in her arms. âRight! Hereâs a pouch of some gold and iron coins, to cover at least a little of the bounty. And thisââ She sets down a piece of parchment on the tableâ âthis is moth mail. Itâs a special thing I made a while back. Just write a letter, tap the little sigil drawn on the top corner, and itâll get to me! You can use that to contact me if you need, or if youâre in the area.â
Gem blinks. âWow! Oh, gosh, thank you? I gotta know, though, how come youâre being so nice to me? I was going to turn Mumbo over to the King.â
Pearl shrugs. âI mean, youâve been chill after that, so why hold grudges? Gotta make friends where ya can.â She straightens back up. âReally! Feel free to come back any time, as long as you let me know first. If you donât, I might assume youâve come to collect some other bounty we donât know about and fight you again.â
Gem laughs as she stands up, taking the pouch of coins and parchment paper. âWouldnât want that to happen, for sure!â She takes a step back. âWell, thank you both for the kindness⊠and entertainment, I suppose. This morning was certainly an interesting one.â
Mumbo smiles nervously. âYeah, I agree. It was nice, uh, meeting you? And not getting kidnapped by you? And not being put in jail. Yeah.â
Gem only laughs louder at that. âYeah, Iâm glad I could contribute to things youâre grateful for.â She takes a breath, looking between Mumbo and Pearl. âWell. Iâll be heading out, then. Thanks for the coin and the paper.â
Pearl leans against Mumbo, who is doing his best to steady her. âNo worries, mate! Have fun with⊠whatever youâre going to do!â
As Gem starts walking back toward the forest, she just barely hears Pearl mumble, âI need to pass out right now,â to Mumbo.Â
Gem pays the stable manager for taking care of her horse with some of the money Pearl gave her. Honestly, sheâs still a little shocked over how the whole ordeal went down, but hey; at least she still got paid.Â
âAnd I got some new friends out of it, too,â she tells her horse as she rides off into the forest. âSo thatâs a plus!âÂ
She isnât quite sure what sheâs going to tell the bartender when she inevitably returns, but sheâll figure something out. For now, sheâs good to look for her next bountyâ wherever it might be.

I had this cute idea that during one part of the adventures in the Bull kid AU, there's a scare that red son almost loses his fire. DBK goes to see if he's alright, and thankfully, he is, but he becomes overwhelmed and cries to his dad how he's been scared this whole time and dbk hugs his son saying "it's ok to be scared." I'd love to see more lazy but lovable and caring dbk
oh, dang been a while since i had a LMK ask and this AU in particular, hmmm
no, he wouldn't be scared of losing his fire, he already lost it centuries ago, and frankly he'd be more releaved about it going again, they we're trouble to begin with so he'd be glad if he just lost them again, or so, he thinks to himself,
Red and DBK are a bit distant in this AU, not like in a astrange never talking way, more like redson wondering if his ''unemployed dad'' is gonna get his life together already since most of his visits back at their home is just DBK being a mopey shut in, all these years,
lil doodle- cuz im tired
[sry if i sound a lil serious toned! I do find the idea very sweet! it's just a bit off from how they are now from how little ive shown of them]
I would say this DBK could be a bit more outwardly caring, i think
