Ce tableau s'intitule "Bivouac de Napoléon Ier sur le champ de bataille de Wagram, nuit du 5 au 6 juillet 1809". Réalisée par l'artiste français Adolphe Roehn (1780-1867), l'œuvre a été peinte en 1810.
L'œuvre représente l'empereur Napoléon Ier assis au centre, plongé dans ses pensées près d'un feu de camp qui éclaire intensément sa silhouette. Il est entouré de ses maréchaux, de ses officiers d'état-major et de ses soldats qui se reposent. La scène se déroule au milieu de la bataille de Wagram, un affrontement majeur et particulièrement sanglant de la guerre de la Cinquième Coalition, opposant l'Armée française à l'Empire d'Autriche.

At the bottom of the weeds, there's dirt in which nothing else can survive. I envy the ants with their perfect unison, how I long to be one of them; Oh my love, we could have been part of a bivouac. We could have run in death spirals, together. But, atlas, we are not ants. And I am certainly no Queen within this dirty world we reside.
