Remember this. Remember the comforting pressure of sand over your feet and the security of that. Remember the the soft, cold sensation through your hands as you stroke and compress the sand between your fingers; the early morning light meekly attempting to push through your closed eyelids, of which are slightly heavy with tiredness. Remember the sound of the waves rippling to shore and the low hiss of their failed retreat. You sit up, supported by your elbows and watch. Gradually, slowly, more people join the beach, setting up towels, preparing for the day, taking in surroundings- you just watch the waves. The flat line of sea as far as the eye can reach quivers with the slight breeze. Remember the ageing couple stand on the metal support attached to the protruding rock just watching, just like you are. Remember this.
