LOX’s Cinematic Debut Album ''The Eight Gates'' Chronicles Perseverance, Identity, and the Pursuit of Greatness

Inspired by resilience, self-discovery, and the relentless drive to surpass one’s limits, ‘''The Eight Gates''’ marks the highly anticipated debut album from visionary drummer, composer, and bandleader LOX. Rooted in personal narrative and elevated by cinematic orchestration, the project draws from the symbolic concept in the anime Naruto, embodying the philosophy of pushing beyond adversity to become the strongest version of oneself. Influenced by the determination of characters from the show, individuals born without natural talent yet driven by unwavering discipline, LOX found a mirror to his own journey. Beginning his musical career later than many of his peers, he worked tirelessly to carve his path, transforming perseverance into purpose. As LOX explains: “This body of work means an unbelievable amount to me. This took six years to write and put together. It’s more than music - it’s paying homage to the things that made me who I am today.”

The album will be available on digital streaming platforms and 12” vinyl on the 26th of June 2026, with the first single ‘Limit’ released digitally on the 28th of May 2026.

Written between 2019 and 2025, ‘The Eight Gates’ was inspired by LOX’s experiences growing up within the vibrant London jazz scene. While drums have always been central to his voice, his exploration of melody and harmony through steelpan in his teenage years sparked his evolution as a composer. Recorded across two sessions at Livingston Studios in September 2024 and September 2025, the project features LOX’s core band performing together live to preserve the authenticity and electricity of their sound. Produced, mixed, and engineered by acclaimed guitarist Femi Temowo, the album was later enhanced with strings, percussion, synthesisers, and spoken word elements, resulting in a powerful and immersive sonic tapestry.

Opening a window into LOX’s world, the track “Life” stands as a fearless meditation on presence and imperfection. Recorded in a single improvised take, it captures the beauty of spontaneity. Inspired by the narrative style of Kendrick Lamar’s Good Kid, m.A.A.d City, the piece features dialogue reflecting LOX’s upbringing on the Aylesbury Estate in South London, an environment that shaped his perspective and reaffirmed music as his guiding force. Drawing on Nina Simone’s belief that artists must reflect their times.

Another standout composition, “View,” tells the story of a young dreamer rising above adversity. Its intricate melodies and shifting time signatures symbolise ambition in the face of doubt, while its cinematic progression reflects the triumph of perseverance.

LOX is a London-based drummer, composer, and bandleader who has performed, recorded, and toured internationally since the age of 16. Now 25, he has taken his artistry across the globe, performing in China, Dubai, the United States, Tahiti, the Caribbean, Uzbekistan, Saudi Arabia, and throughout Europe. His extensive list of collaborators includes Noname, Dee Dee Bridgewater, China Moses, Blue Lab Beats, Greg Spero, Femi Temowo, Casey Benjamin, Shae Universe, and Jahari Stampley. Supported by a stellar band whose members have worked with artists such as Dolly Parton, Wizkid, Yazmin Lacey, Arlo Parks, Nubya Garcia, and Reuben James, LOX’s compositions - often described as energetic yet sensitive and orchestral - draw heavily from anime and video game music. With ''The Eight Gates'', he steps boldly into the spotlight, heralding an exciting new voice in the UK music scene.
