Drop by to say i absolutely love reading your thoughts and theory on your postđŒ
Aww thank you so much. I do love how intriguing everything is right now and trying to figure out how all of it could play out. I love reading everyone else's thoughts and suspicions as well. I mean who knows what we'll end up possibly being right about and what we'll be way off about, because let's face it, we have no chance of being right about all of our theories, haha. But I'm really enjoying everything at the moment. I do wish everyone else was having as good a time as some of us but I'm hoping as the story goes along they'll find things to enjoy.

all that i am, i give to you: five times robert has given aaron a gift plus the one time aaron has given him one
__
1. Coffee:
Robertâs standing there with a cup of coffee in his hand, big hands swooped to hold it tight and drum a finger or two along nicely. He stands there with a small smile on his face like something is funny and Aaron wonders if heâs the joke before Robertâs holding the coffee out towards him.
Then heâs asking to be mates and Aaron burns with this need to know why.
Itâs there again and again as he stands, clipboard in hand and a motor that wonât stop squeaking whenever he comes close to it. Heâs got things to be getting on with, work, something heâs quickly figured out Robert doesnât spend a lot of time actually doing.
âIâll think about it.â He says, he feels something for saying it, for puffing his chest out and watching Robert stare at him in that way that makes him want to use his fists.
Itâs smarmy. But heâs also putting a coffee down, heâs giving Aaron something when he doesnât need to and it feels a lot like the start of something dangerous. He knows it is, heâs been dragged through his stupid schemes and got bruised knuckles for his troubles.
But he doesnât give him a glare, he doesnât tell him to fuck off, do one, take his coffee and stick it anywhere he likes. He just doesnât. Instead he stares down at it and huffs, a shadow of something rushing inside of him as he laughs and a smirk forms around his mouth.
Heâs taking his gloves off when Cain comes back from wherever heâs been. He sits against one of the cars and looks over at Aaron.
âYou can get off now.â
âYeah I was going to.â Aaron scoffs before Cain frowns. âI mean yeah ⊠cheers.â He shrugs out of his overalls, kicks them as they gather at his feet and he pulls it over his shoulder before nodding at his uncle.
âOi. Forgot this.â Cain holds out the coffee, thereâs a harsh frown on his face. âFreezing now.â He says and Aaronâs mouth forms an O as he takes it from him.
âYeah I didnât âŠâ
âSee you tomorrow.â Cainâs already waving him off, his back the only thing Aaron can see as the moon hangs in the air and the wind picks up that makes his teeth chatter slightly.
He feels the cold case of the coffee before walking towards the bin outside the pub, he fiddles about with taking the lid off out of curiosity. Robert looks like an Americano sort of guy, Aaron just prefers the normal kind.
Thereâs froth though, boiled down into hardly anything throughout the day and Aaron makes out a faint logo on the side. He recognises it as a shop his mum thinks is sophisticated enough to spend hours in once sheâs done shopping in town. Itâs just a coffee shop, but heâs sure they say itâs artistry with all their fancy signs and marbled tables.
Aaron shakes his head against the lengths Robertâs gone to for absolutely no reason. It travels around him for a second until he makes out an eye on the froth, and then a curve that almost makes out a smile.
He stands over the bin with a frown on his face when he hears heels and a laugh that gets his head up. He doesnât expect to see Chrissie standing there, sheâs holding on to someone. Robert. Theyâre walking out of the pub and Aaronâs mind immediately travels towards something. Them. Cosy night in. Itâs absolutely none of his business.
He doesnât know why Robertâs looking at him until he realises heâs still holding the cup in his head. The very full cup. Robertâs eyes flicker, a hardening to his face as Chrissie tugs at his hand obviously confused as to why theyâve slowed down.
Aaron feels this rushing need to explain himself, to tell him he was working flat out. But then Robertâs arm is around Chrissieâs even tighter than it was before and he kisses her cheek hard. She giggles, he laughs.
Aaronâs face drops and his jaw clicks tightly as he watches them walk away. He pours the coffee in the bin, Robert throws him a look over his shoulder as they get to his car.
It makes Aaron crumble the empty cup in his hand.
â
2. Dinner:
Thereâs candles flickering on the table and Aaronâs staring down at the cutlery, thereâs four different types of spoons and he doesnât know which one to pick up first. Robertâs looking at him when he glances up. Heâs wearing a navy tie, a blush to his cheeks and his tongue showing as he bites down and smiles.
âThe Dingleâs showing.â
Aaron wriggles an eyebrow, his face changing colour as a sense of something peaks between them. He brings a hand out on to the table and then pulls it away when he sees Robertâs are on his lap. âMy what?â
âJust follow my lead with this lot yeah?â Robertâs voice is soft, heâs kind with it, thereâs a gentleness to him and this swanky hotel heâs bought him to. He watches Robert pick up the smallest spoon and then smile. âIâve had enough stupid dinners to know whatâs what.â
Aaron thinks of Chrissie suddenly and it hits like a wave; leaves him breathless for a second as he imagines her with Robert on her arm at these stupid dinners. He feels something tighten inside him as he thinks of how easy she can be with him, show him off.
Aaron clears his throat, he brings a shake to his head when Robert swirls the small spoon in front of his face. Thereâs no harshness to his expressions, he leans back on his chair with ease, he smiles when he looks at Aaron.
âThe Dingleâs showing.â Aaron says after a second, his face is pink. âSounds rude.â
Robert rolls his eyes. âYou and your mind.â He says before he reaches down, he takes hold of the hand Aaronâs got on his lap and he squeezes. âThatâs for later yeah?â
It makes something swoop in his chest in this funny way, Robertâs voice slick and gravel like as he winks. Aaron thinks of his bag in the room, the thick cotton sheets, the way he waited with baited breath for Robert to walk through the door and make him feel alive with something.
He did, heâs doing it again now and then again when heâs ordering for them. Aaronâs having a steak, medium rare, apparently thatâs what heâs going to like.
âControl freak.â Aaron says, but thereâs nothing in his words, not even the smallest bite of heat when Robert looks at him. âWhat?â He says, because Robert wonât stop looking at him.
âAre you happy you came?â Robert says, he has a foot close to Aaronâs and he scrapes down and then up and then down again slowly. He looks bare, almost vulnerable and thereâs still a charm to it that makes Aaron feel like heâs going to faint.
âHavenât tried the food yet.â Aaron says, he shrugs slowly and Robert nods his head.
âIâll take that.â Thereâs something there as he says it and Aaron feels like heâs got him, that maybe Robertâs as trapped as he is in all of this.
The food comes, Aaron tries not to wolf it down like an animal and yet Robert looks like heâs still finding him attractive. He doesnât get it, he canât.
âWhy all this?â Aaron looks around the room, thereâs couples everywhere, twinkling lights hung on windows and overlooking woodland. Robert frowns at the question like he doesnât understand. âFancy dinner, fancy hotel.â
âDonât really like what the barn does for my back.â Robert says, Aaron goes to say something and he sighs. âAnd itâs not âcause Iâm old.â
âAre you sure?â Aaron says, he leans back, laughs when Robert shakes his head and tells him heâs an idiot. He doesnât feel like one now, he feels happy, he feels like this is a real or something.
Robert orders them champagne and Aaron feels light on it by the time heâs eating some sort of tart for dinner and Robertâs taking his wallet out.
âWhatâs that for?â
âThis.â Robert says, he looks at the table and then frowns. âWhatâs with the face?â
âYou donât need to ⊠pay.â Aaron says, he sobers slightly at the realisation that he canât afford to cover this himself. He blushes and runs a hand across his face. âRobert, youâre already paying for the pissinâ room.â He leans over the table and Robert shakes his head.
âYeah and youâll repay me.â Robert leans over. âIn bed.â He says, and Aaronâs legs are like jelly around it until Robert sighs. âIâm not letting you pay alright.â
âChrissie doesnât pay either right?â Aaron bounces his knee when Robertâs face falls like it always does when sheâs mentioned. Like Chrissie is someone who they donât mention, like Robert doesnât smell like her sometimes when he first embraces Aaron. He know itâs something that will get his attention, comparing them, putting on the same level as if they are. âI ainât your husband. This ainât ⊠I can pay my way.â
And it would be easier that way, if they didnât do this, if they didnât stare at each other at a candle lit table and look so happy being around each other. It would be easier if they split things when ever ate, if Aaron said he wasnât hungry in the first place and just fucked him in a hotel room for an hour and then pissed off.
It would be easier, easier and easier than *this.
Robert gulps hard, he knows, he must know. He brings himself closer by scrapping his chair and Aaron feels him almost everywhere. âLet me do this for you.â Aaron looks up, sighs. âIt ainât about money, itâs about being with you. Idiot.â
Aaron blinks back something. âImpressing me more like.â He kicks his leg against his chair and Robert looks flushed with something.
âSomething like that.â
Aaron brings his teeth over his bottom lip and tugs as Robert looks at him with heavy green eyes.
âYou wear a suit next time, pay me back that way.â
âA suit?â Aaron pulls a face and leans back in his chair, tart forgotten about as he smiles weakly. âEasy to please.â
Robert shrugs. âMaybe when it comes to you.â He calls for a waiter to come towards the table and then looks back at Aaron. âShould we get a couple of beers bought up to the room nâall. We can catch those football highlights you wanted?â
Itâs that, itâs a just a smile and a promise of wanting something more, this feeling, this buzz between them to continue. Itâs Robert asking, waiting. Itâs Aaron nodding his head, wanting nothing more.
âGood.â Robert whispers, and Aaron gulps hard under his stare until theyâre in the lift and Robertâs fingers skate close to his in this anticipation or kindness or something.
Aaron is definitely sure Robert has no idea what he does to him.
â
3. Grapes:
Aaronâs eyes open to the smell of the room, clinical and strong and matching the way the white walls close in on him. He closes his eyes almost as quickly as he opened them before twisting at his lip and scrapping the skin back and forth.
Thereâs a steady beat of something next to him and he turns to see the monitor, turns back to look down at his leg and then up towards the ceiling again. He gulps down something thick, this thumping that wonât stop until he hears the door pull.
He watches a nurse walk in and he mumbles something about whether his mum is still around or not. Sheâs gone home, sheâs getting rest and apparently he should be doing the same. But he doesnât want that, he wants to forget any of this sad tragic thing happened, he wants the pity in his mumâs eyes to die away into nothing at all.
Heâs sick of that, of this, of laying in a hospital bed and being told people love him.
When he opens his eyes again thereâs someone over him, he shuffles slightly and then tries to sit up but they have a hand on his shoulder, they say donât.
Aaron looks up, knows that voice and feels light for a second, âRob?â
âYeah.â Robert says, he smiles weakly and then gulps hard enough for Aaron to hear. He looks nervous, thereâs his hand still on Aaronâs shoulder and he squeezes for a second before slowly pulling away and sitting awkwardly on the bed. âHowâs the leg?â
Aaron remembers him last night, the way he hardly looked at him. He was tightly coiled and jumpy and now he doesnât seem that way at all. He has this energy to him, Aaron almost wants to hate him for it. He doesnât, he canât.
âHowâs Chrissie?â
Robertâs jaw locks in place for a second, he shakes his head and sighs. âDonât.â
Aaron wills himself to not be as open and placid as he was last night, he nods his head. âShe enjoy her takeaway? Sweet and sour or ââ
Robert looks up at him. âI came here for you.â He says, his face is flushed pink and Aaron tries to stay strong against any of his dramatics. He loves him, he fucking knows he loves him but that doesnât mean he has to like him right about now. No. He really doesnât.
âTo shut me up about my mum?â
Robertâs eyes flicker like mad and then he looks down at Aaronâs hand, thereâs a few cuts from the fall and a bruise forming over one of his knuckles. âTo see if you were better.â
âBetter?â Aaron nods slowly.
Robert breathes in. âYou canât do that again Aaron, you canât ⊠do that to yourself.â And Aaron has to look away at that, has to fight this thing inside him thatâs telling him to reach out. âYouâll end up dead.â
Aaron looks at him at that, heâs shaking his head, his green eyes are filled with something beyond anger, beyond determination to make Aaron listen.
âI couldnât âŠâ Robert hesitates. âYou know I couldnât.â
Thereâs Robert beaten and bloody and heâs saying things, heâs saying he couldnât handle it if something happened, that Chrissie isnât enough. Heâs saying three words, heâs really saying them.
âI know.â Aaron says, because he does. He didnât spend days and days in his bed without figuring out that Robert does love him. Heâs seen that, and heâs seen this and he canât breathe against how unfair it is that he canât have him all. âI wonât go running again, not like that.â
Robertâs eyes flicker. âPromise me?â
Aaron thinks itâs rich, he thinks he shouldnât be promising Robert anything when he canât do the same in return. He canât promise to leave Chrissie. He canât promise that and Aaronâs got to get his head around that being fine somehow.
âI said didnât I?â Aaron says, he has a hand down flat on the bed and he blinks slowly as Robert watches him in silence.
âYou scared me.â Robert says, shows. He brings his hand over Aaronâs and looks down for a second. Aaron sees himself in him, hesitant, unsure of how to go about showing.
âI know.â Aaron says. âI heard you ⊠yesterday. Your voice.â He was scared, he was panicked and breathless and squeezing his coat down on him. âCoat smelt like you nâall.â
Robert looks up. âIt was mine.â
Aaron smiles. âYeah I know, idiot.â He bites his lip and then strokes a thumb over Robertâs hand, watches him breathe out. âIt werenât your fault.â
And maybe Robert will always think everything Aaron does, all the scary tragic things are down to him. He nods out like he knows it wasnât and Aaron sees if it meets his eyes. He moves down and then picks something up from the floor, a bag of something and Aaron frowns.
âWhatâs âŠâ
âGrapes.â Robert looks hesitant as he puts the bag on the bed. âFor the patient.â He takes one and then turns the bag towards Aaron. He looks almost so innocent itâs a joke, he smiles for a second like heâs unsure of himself and Aaronâs balled over by this shock, surprise, love. âWhat?â
Aaron shakes his head. âNothing.â He mumbles. âStay with me to eat some or ⊠have you got to âŠâ Robert looks down at his phone and Aaronâs heart thumps.
âNo. Iâm good. Iâll stay.â
Aaron smiles weakly.
â
4. Canvas:
Aaron walks in to his bedroom, kicks the door open and huffs as he sees Robert sitting on the bed. Heâs looking around the place and Aaron canât help but wonder if heâs remembering times were theyâve been here together. It makes the corners of his mouth rise before the pressure of the box becomes too much and he drops it lightly.
âYou going to just let me do all the work?â Aaron says, his face is bright red as he swings the door open and gets another one of Robertâs boxes. He practically kicks it into the room and thatâs when Robert looks his way. âOh now Iâve got your attention.â
âIâve got a laptop in one of them boxes.â Robert sits up, heâs for a soft look on his face and he smiles when Aaron rolls his eyes. âCome here.â
âWeâve already been doing a lot of stuff where youâre sitting.â Aaron says, he bends down to start un-boxing and looks up to Robert crowding his space slightly.
âWell, we can do something against the wall if âŠâ
Aaron swots his hand away when he reaches down but Robert grabs it, face bright and light as he slowly crouches and looks at Aaron with wide heavy eyes. He looks so in love with him and Aaron feels something swoop through his chest at the sight.
âGive me a kiss.â Robert says, gentle and yet still laced with his confidence, his charm, his stupid fucking charm.
Aaron tuts. âIâm helping you move in mate, you give me one.â He mumbles, and Aaron feels him close in around him until his mouth is stretched over his and Robertâs hand is firmly pressed towards the back of Aaronâs neck. He smiles, deep, light and Aaron can only bring himself to push off when he hears Liv on the stairs.
Heâs a little breathless, and Robert smirks because of it until Aaronâs telling him to unpack.
âSomeoneâs eager.â Robert says, he brings his tongue out a little and bites down before Aaron turns bright red.
He is, heâs so eager and it claws through him at such a rate he feels dizzy. Dizzy and stupid and scared for wanting this so much.
âI said didnât I? Need to keep an eye on ya.â Aaron says, head dipped as he starts opening boxes and watching Robert bring out ties and shirts and folding them nicely. âWhereâs all this going then?â
Robert frowns for a second.
âNot in my wardrobe.â Aaron says, he makes the point of crossing his arms over too and he has Robert fooled for a second before he breaks, smiles and Robert has him sprawled out on the floor and laughing.
For a second he feels like a kid again, happy because thereâs not anything to be unhappy about. It makes his heart thump hard, again and again as he realises where he is. The dark walls and the silence of this room and what it felt like to be here years ago.
It didnât know laughter like this, it didnât know love like this either.
âYouâre an idiot.â Robert says, heâs got Aaron pinned down still and he shakes his head lightly as Aaron frowns at him.
âAn idiot youâre moving in with.â
Robert pulls a face. âFree pints.â He says before Aaron lifts his knee up like heâs going to kick and he rolls off him laughing.
Aaron sits beside him on the floor, back against the bed frame as he watches Robert look around the room again.
âWhat you staring at?â
âFeels different.â Robert brings his knees tight up towards his chest and breathes in. âBeing here, properly.â
Aaron closes his eyes, hears one knock and then pulling and tugging and locking the door. He sees fumbling on the bed, mouths covered by hands and moans tight around thrusts.
He remembers belts and zippers and the promise of soon. He remembers Robert still on his pillow, his smell staying even when he couldnât.
âDonât need to sneak out.â Aaron says, mumbled as he speaks into the arm heâs for over his chest. âHmm?â He looks towards Robert, shoves him lightly and then slowly strokes Robertâs hand with a finger.
âItâs for real.â Robertâs eyes are wide, like itâs only just dawned on him really and Aaron itches with the way he looks. Theyâve done all the christening the bed all morning, making as much noise as they want as they did the same in the shower. Now itâs just the boring bits. Now Robert looks like he wants to be sick.
âYeah.â Aaron says. He pulls his hand away and Robert looks at him.
âIâm not saying itâs bad. Of course Iâm not.â Robert says, as if heâs read Aaronâs mind or something.
âYouâre having second âŠâ
âNo.â Robert says. âItâs scary but âŠâ
Aaron takes a chance, figures maybe for once theyâre on the same page. âGood kind of scary?â
Robert nods gently. âYeah. The good kind.â He nods again. âPromise.â He has Aaronâs hand against his thigh and he squeezes down before thereâs a knock at the door.
Livâs holding a box and telling one of them to grab it before she smashes whateverâs inside.
âWhat is it? God, how much stuff did you have âround Vicâs in that poxy âŠâ
âOpen it.â
Aaron frowns, Robert nods slowly and then heâs watching Aaron closely as he rips it open and sees a picture inside. Itâs a canvas, lights flickered and blown across a setting.
âThought we could ⊠just a bit of art of something.â Robert shrugs, his hands are waving around and then fall into his hair. âJust something thatâs ours, together.â
Aaron studies the picture again, âLooks like a wooden ⊠you know by the beach or something.â
âYou like beaches.â Robert smiles weakly and Aaron feels his heart thump hard in his chest again and again. âSo I thought âŠâ
Aaron looks up at him, eyes wet suddenly and he holds his face tight as he kisses him. Robertâs head tilts back from the impact and Aaron has his hands stroking gently over his face before he pulls back.
âOurs.â Aaron mumbles, and it still feels alien to him, this security they have with each other, this safety.
âYeah.â Robert stares at the canvas, and back at Aaron. He smiles and kisses him again and Aaron strokes over the picture lightly.
He still looks up at it in bed that night, Robertâs hung it high up over the bed.
âOurs.â Aaron mumbles, face cushioned into Aaronâs chest as he kisses his skin lightly and pulls the covers over them tighter.
â
5. Ring:
Thereâs silence drawing out between them and Aaron doesnât mind laying back against it. He doesnât want to chase it, he wants to let it simmer and fade out altogether.
He wonât rush a single second now.
Robertâs asleep again, face buried into the bed and hands raised up and laced into Aaronâs tightly. Heâs exhausted and Aaron knows it, he feels what Robert feels since he was under water, losing his breath. The thought is enough to shake him slightly and so he looks at his hand and it settles him. Thereâs a ring there, thick and silver and shiny and his. Itâs his and so is Robert.
âCourse.â Aaron whispers. âYou ainât.â His eyes flicker down towards Robertâs eyes and looks into them deeply. âYou didnât need to come back.â
But he did, with stories of Charity calling them Suggle or something like that and a bag of grapes just to make Aaron smile.
âWhere else would I be?â Robert says, he holds their hands together and strokes gently until Aaron feels tears swell in his eyes almost uncontrollably. âAaron?â
âIâm sorry.â Aaron says, he brings his hands out of the hold and tightly cups Robertâs face. âI just want you to know âŠâ
âI do.â Robert sniffs. âWhy else do you think I stayed with you?â
Aaron tuts, thereâs a line, thereâs this wall and he canât bring himself to cross it when Robert even tries to bring up what could have been.
âI love you.â Robert whispers. âAnd weâre OK. Arenât we?â Aaron nods his head, feels small circles gently form in his thigh. âWeâre getting married.â He sounds like a child, he sounds like someone whoâs so happy they could burst.
Aaronâs done that, heâs done that and he canât explain how light it makes him feel. He smiles, teeth showing and hands shaking and everything moving at such a slow and gentle beat between them.
âYou want to marry me.â Aaron says. Itâs a fact, itâs certain. It forms in Aaronâs mouth and dies as soon as he says it, as soon as Robert scoffs.
âSort of the plan, yeah.â
âI want to marry you.â Aaron says, his voice is strong and soft at the same time and it catches Robertâs attention enough for his head to rise slowly.
âMust be why you said yes ⊠twice.â
The twice makes something catch in Aaronâs throat, this feeling that when he was completely out of it all he still wanted to do was tell Robert he wanted to marry him.
âWanted to for a while.â He admits, Â because theyâre getting married now, because he feels safe in laying everything bare whilst Robert holds his hand in this stupid hospital room. âThought itâd be too fast though, youâd hate the idea.â
âAs if.â Robert says. âAs if I could ever.â He whispers, words slow and settled in his voice.
âEven with your track record.â
âYeah well, there was this annoying idiot who was all stuck in my head through my last marriage so.â Robert dips his head and Aaron looks down at his ring, he canât help it.
âYou got us rings.â Aaronâs saying, heâs sure heâs still a little out of it and the fact that heâs got engaged on top of everything else is enough to make him do this.
âYou just stating the obvious yeah?â
Aaron nods. âTheyâre so cool.â Robert laughs, hearty and deep. âWhat? Theyâre mint.â
âGlad you approve.â Robert says, âGlad I jumped back in for it now.â
Aaronâs face falls, a frown curving against his face as Robert tells him itâs nothing. âDonât lie to me.â He says. âYou ⊠went back?â
Robert tilts his head slightly. âI left it.â Aaron shakes his head. âThe car was going to sink, what else could I âŠâ
âNot risk sinking with it.â Aaron feels himself getting worked up, he pulls his hand away and they shake slightly before he breathes out. âYouâre mad.â
Robert blinks. âI wanted ⊠I just wanted to propose.â He says, he looks almost lost in the idea as he speaks. âProperly. I just wanted to give you the ring and âŠâ
Aaron sniffs, raises his hand. âYou gave me a ring.â He says, heart thudding slower now as Robert nods gently, smiles. âDonât ever be so stupid again but ⊠you gave me a ring.â
Robertâs eyes water. âShut up and come here.â He says, and Aaron leans down into a kiss, a steady gentle one that rises slightly as Aaronâs hands fall over the curve of Robertâs shoulders. He leans away, smiles. âDo you like it?â
âI love it.â Aaron says. âCould have been more âŠâ he tries, tries to tease or say something thatâll annoy Robert but he almost canât. Thereâs absolutely no point and he only kisses him again. âItâs perfect.â
Robertâs almost like jelly as he leans back on his chair and smiles. âSo are you.â
Aaron bites his lip. âIf we keep this up I might be sick.â He says, and heâs back in the room and Robert calls him an idiot.
He looks down at his ring, his engagement ring given to him by his fiance. Aaronâs never been so happy in his life.
â
+ 1 (Inscriptions)
Robert wakes up to the sound of rain hitting the window lightly, just enough to make him stir and roll himself closer to Aaron. Heâs a warm heavy weight against him and he nuzzles gently before opening his eyes to the expanse of his chest creeping down towards his stomach.
His blue pyjama top is curled upwards revealing soft skin and making Robertâs eyes wander slightly as they blink open. He catches him completely, finds something inside him swirl as Aaron wakes up.
Thereâs blue eyes and the sound of a beard being scratched before Aaron yawns down, kisses lightly at Robertâs head and squeezes him in tighter. He has a hand in Robertâs hair a second later and Robertâs hand hangs gently over Aaronâs middle as they breathe slowly and hear the wind whistling outside.
âWeatherâs shit.â Aaron tuts, his legs stretch and bend under the covers and Robert chuckles heartily.
âYou planning on doing anything today.â Robert says, he places his hand on Aaronâs chest just to feel and then Aaronâs blinking down at him.
âMaybe.â Aaron shrugs. âMaybe todayâs important ⊠maybe it isnât.â
Robert looks up at him, he tilts his head and his chin nearly buts against Aaronâs. âMaybe we didnât get married a year ago ⊠maybe we did.â Aaron scoffs. âThatâs how stupid you sounded.â
Aaron rolls his eyes, lifts Robertâs face up to bring him in to a kiss and it lasts, feels deep and loving and Aaron only pulls away to smile.
âStay here.â Aaron says, he pulls the covers off and stands on the side of the bed yanking socks on and making Robert have to stare at him in just a pair of boxers.
âThis is torture.â Robert says, he kneels on the bed and tries to lean forward but Aaronâs already heading towards the door.
âIâll be back. Trust me.â Heâs out the door and down the stairs before Robert can reply. He thinks of him bringing back a present of the kinky kind and them really starting this day off correctly but he doesnât.
Robert waits, lays back on Aaronâs side of the bed and plays around on his phone until heâs curling back into a small ball and his eyes close shut. They only open again when Aaronâs between his legs and giving him a really lovely good morning.
âAaron.â Robertâs whole body jolts as he keeps Aaronâs head firmly in place and only pulls his hands away when theyâre curled up against the sheets and Aaronâs coming up for air. âThat was very nice, husband dearest.â
Aaron gives this little shrug like the compliment didnât mean anything when Robert knows it did. He scoots off, hands falling over Robertâs face as he kisses his forehead lightly and looks towards the bedside table.
âMade you a fry up too.â
Robertâs eyebrow arches. âYouâre spoiling me here.â He says, thereâs something lodged in his throat and it doesnât move. âI donât deserve âŠâ
Aaron doesnât let him say absolutely anything else, instead he holds his face gently and brings his forehead towards Robertâs. âNone of that today.â
âReality.â
Aaron rolls his eyes gently, he pulls himself up on to Robertâs lap and tilts his head towards him so Robertâs listening. âMe and you ⊠thatâs happening, thatâs real. So was our wedding. This time last year I was âŠâ He chokes, Robert squeezes his thigh and watches. âI couldnât wait to marry ya.â
Robert nods, it doesnât feel like a whole year ago, he doesnât understand where the time has gone. âSame here.â He says. âAgain.â He smiles, teeth and lines around his mouth and Aaron looks like heâs about to melt from it.
âNo disasters. No arrests.â Aaron gently peels himself off of Robert and gets in to the empty side of the bed before passing Robert his breakfast. âJust me and you.â
Aaron leans over to steal a slice of toast laid out on the side of the plate and Robert watches him with gentle eyes.
âWhat?â Aaronâs got a mouthful of toast and his eyes still look sleepy and yet heâs still absolutely beautiful. It makes something thump and bump around in Robertâs chest.
âHappy anniversary.â Robert says, âFirst anniversary.â Thereâs something in his voice, he doesnât quite know what it is but Aaron hears it and brings himself forward into a kiss again.
âHappy anniversary.â Aaron says. They sit in silence for a while, the sound of the weather outside filling the room until heâs taking the plate away from Robert and climbing on top of him. âThis is worth celebrating properly right?â
Robert nods, body already stretched under the covers in anticipation as Aaron leans down and starts moving his hands over him.
Itâs almost midday by the time they actually get out of bed. The weather has cleared up a little and Aaronâs taken him to the make shift rotunda in the village.
âGod, feels weird.â Robert says, hand on a beam and a shake to his head. He turns, sees that Aaronâs smirking like an absolute child. âWhat have you done?â
And really itâs the sweetest thing. Aaron grabs for Robertâs hand and points to where heâs inscribed an A and R in the woodwork around the back of the beams.
âYouâre âŠâ
âRomantic?â Aaron elbows him gently, waves a hand out and then Robert holds at his waist and feels Aaron lean back into him.
âI was going to say ⊠a kid.â Aaron goes to pull away playfully and Robert locks him against him tighter and leans towards his ear. âItâs perfect.â He mumbles.
Aaron turns to him. âItâs for you.â He says, shrugs gently like heâs almost embarrassed and Robert will never understand how he worries, how he still worries about not being good enough. Heâs everything, annoyingly always has been and Robert wills him to see it all. âI know we said ⊠we werenât ⊠presents wise, we wouldnât do anything. I know itâs shit âŠâ
âWell you do know I love you committing crimes so.â Robert shrugs and the air feels light, the clouds seem to part around them and the sun pokes in to make Aaronâs face glow.
âYeah. Weird that.â Aaron says, he laughs and the sound makes Robert smile instantly.
âIt is how I met you, stealing my car.â
Aaron pulls a face. âDidnât actually steal it though.â He mumbles before Robert spins him around and kisses him gently and then hard enough for Aaronâs head tilts back. âGod, petty crime really is our thing.â He whispers against Robertâs lips.
âYeah. Like our song.â
Aaron rolls his eyes, pushes at Robertâs chest as if he knows whatâs coming. Itâs Robert, soft hands over Aaronâs waist and a blush to his cheeks asking him to dance with him.
âItâs freezing.â
âSunâs coming out.â Robert says, heâs holding Aaron already and he wonât be letting go anytime soon. âCome on, for me. Thereâs no one else around.â The whole village is almost still asleep and it feels like it did the night they got back together, no one but then in the whole world.
Aaron relents, of course he relents and it only takes a minute or so before his head is tilted right down on Robertâs shoulder and heâs swaying with his husband.
âThis ⊠count this as your gift too.â
Robert kisses his head lightly and pulls away as they sway. âYours is whatever you want tonight for tea.â
âCould have stopped at tonight.â
âOK then.â Robert laughs. âWhatever you want tonight. From me. In our bed.â
Aaron nuzzles closer and strokes a hand slowly down Robertâs back. âThatâs better.â He says.
Robert thinks of running Aaron a bath, giving him a massage and sticking on Fast and Furious 25 or whatever for him tonight. He thinks of the card heâs got stuck in his drawer and the one heâs seen Liv write out for them placed neatly on the coffee table. He thinks and thinks.
âAaron.â
âHmm?â Aaron mumbles, and he stops swaying as the silence drags out. He peels his head up and looks at his husband.
âWhatever happens âŠâ itâs that, it gets stuck in Robertâs throat and he feels like a coward for not being able to get it out before Aaronâs bringing him in to this fierce hug.
âI love you, I love you.â Aaron must say it at least five times, Robertâs head is buried into his chest and he has a hand anchored in place on the back of Robertâs head as he holds him.
Robert pulls back, sniffs as his face reddening and he absolutely hates himself for doing this to him, for making Aaron cry on their flipping wedding anniversary. âIâm sorry.â He says, wipes his eyes.
Aaron bites his lip, steadies himself and then sniffs. âRemember Seb in the little suit?â He whispers. It makes Robert smile instantly.
âHe just wouldnât keep that hat on.â
âYeah, âcourse. He was only a baby.â Aaron laughs, âStill cute though.â He says before Robert holds at his hand and brings them back to where Aaronâs put their names. Aaron leans his head down into Robertâs shoulder again and holds his arm tightly.
âYou reckon people will realise?â
âYeah.â Aaron says. âWho else were cool enough to get married here hmm?â He puffs his chest out and makes Robert laugh again. âCome on, letâs go home, this dayâs about celebrating yeah?â
Robert holds his hand home, watches Aaron unlock the door to theirs. âCelebrating is code for âŠâ
Aaronâs already jumping on him as soon as the front door is shut.
Prompt thingy. Fluff & love. They are in their 50s having wedding anniversary dinner . They talk & dance.â€
oh yeah I left out the old age thing, not my favorite but this ask is cute so I make an exception
âAre you ready?â - asked Robert as he looked Aaron up and down. They were both dressed up for a night out to celebrate their anniversary, but in the last minute, they decided to stay in. Alright, maybe it was because the weather was shit and Aaron complained too much about not wanting to go outside.
âI canât believe youâre making me wear this in the houseâ. - he scoffed as he looked at his suit. True enough Robert made him. He said thatâs the least they could do after they had to cancel the reservation... which wasnât cheap.Â
âI told you, Aaron...â
âI know.â - he said rolling his eyes. - âNot that I was keen on that poncy restaurant.â
âCome on you love their steak.â - said Robert and he was right. They went there for their 10th anniversary, and then after Seb got engaged last year. The whole family loved the place.Â
âI love your cooking better.â - he blushed.Â
âIs that right?â - smirked Robert as he walked past him to open a bottle of champagne.
âChampagne?â - asked Aaron surprised.
âYeah, but what kind of champagne?âÂ
âWell I donât know, Iâm not an expert.â - he laughed.
âFrom our honeymoon.â - he grinned.
âWhich one?â - it was a fair question.
âSecond wedding.â
âWe really have a bottle?â - he asked as he went there to take a look at it.
âI have my secret stashâ. - said Robert proudly.
âAlright, you can open it then you can get some food as well because Iâm starving.â
âHow romantic.â - he said with a laugh as he opened the bottle then got started on dinner.
An hour and a half later they were seated with food on the table, a drink in their hands and all they did was look into each other's eyes. It went on long enough before Robert licked his lips, and started talking.
âDo you remember when we proposed to each other at the same time?â
âCourse I do, what brought this on?âÂ
âNothing, it just came to my mind.âÂ
âWell, I think we had enough of weddings donât you think? I can hardly keep on with these anniversaries as it is.â - smiled Aaron, sipping on his champagne, before a text interrupted them.
âItâs Seb.â - said Robert as he read it. - âHe wishes us a happy anniversary.â - he laughed.
âWhyâs that funny?â
âBecause he said he might forget every one of them because there are so many.Â
âThatâs what I said.âÂ
âYou two are basically the same person.â - scoffed Robert.
âYeah with my attitude and your looks... heâs a winner.â
âDance with me.â - said Robert out of the blue as he stood up.
âWhat? No.â
âCome on, why not? Weâre alone. I know you secretly love it.âÂ
âNo, I donât.â - he said but he let Robert pull him on his feet anyway.
âI knew it.â - he whispered to him as they started swaying.
âThereâs no music.â - complained Aaron.
âDoesnât matter.â - said Robert tightening his grip.
âWe did that after you came back.â - he said. They rarely mentioned prison, but this memory was a good one.Â
âYou held me all night.â - remembered Robert.
âIâd do it tonight as well if thatâs what you want.â
