Meeting our son's future pediatrician
We met Dr. Glover at Children's Faith Pediatrics. We heard great things about him and wanted to have a consult and find out what kind of Dr. he is. When we first got there, Matthew and I were immediately surprised about how personal the place was. The sign had the practice name on it with the bible verse Matthew 18.3 (And he said: “I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven). We went inside and the front desk woman was personable and kind. She gave me a form to fill out and a booklet for us to read that told more about the practice. I filled out the form and Matthew read the booklet. I had put together a list of questions that I wanted to ask the staff/Drs. The nurse came out and got us and took us back to a room. As we walked to the room, I saw that the office had a "well kid" and "sick kid" waiting rooms. That was something I really wanted. I also remembered that when I called to make the appointment for the consult the front desk woman actually answered the phone. They have someone that answers the phone rather than an automated message. Amazing! That just doesn't happen now a days. So the nurse came in and introduced herself. She told us a little about Dr. Glover and the practice that he runs. There were several questions on my list that she was able to answer, particularly about office practices, emergencies, etc. She said that Dr. Glover and Dr. Perry take turns taking calls after hours. If I have an emergency, I call the cell# and one of them will either answer or call me right back. If I have a medical question during business hours, I just call and they will either out a nurse on the phone or I will leave a message, depending on how busy they are. She also said that the average wait time for a scheduled appt is 10 minutes. I ask what would happen if my son was sick and I needed to get him in that day. She said they will work him in. I ask about where the Drs. referred patients and she said Children's Hospital and that is where they have admitting privileges too. I then asked if the office was equipped with a lab and xrays and she said lab but not xray. If we need an xray we will go to Children's. When she had answered all of our questions, she had Dr. Glover come in. We asked detailed questions about immunizations, breastfeeding, co sleeping, nutrition, discipline, circumcision, alternative care, and natural family planning. He said he was in support of whatever worked for each family and that some kids respond best to corporal punishment while others respond best to time-outs etc. He said that he would give info and advice, but would not tell us how to parent. He is a Christian and goes to Belize every year to treat kids for free. He's got a great bedside manor and is open to trying different stuff. Matthew and I are really excited about him. We think we found our son's Dr.! Tonight Matthew and I had our Breast feeding class at Lisa Ross. It was really great. We learned so much and Matthew really enjoyed it too. Lisa Ross has a Breast Feeding Center where anyone can come and learn/consult. The Lactation Consultant is a nurse and a certified LC. She has 3 kids and one on the way. We feel like if we have any problems, we will be totally supported.
more check ups
Matthew and I went to the Dr. today for a growth ultrasound and appt. It was a great day! First, I didn't get lost going to Lisa Ross. Then, when I got there, we had our Ultrasound and our baby had grown a lot! The Stenographer said he weighed 4lbs 14oz and that his stomach and head were both measuring 33.5 weeks. That means that he has almost all the way caught up! She said your Femur is still measuring at 32 weeks, but that it may be that he is just gonna have short legs like me, my Dad, and Mike. She also said he has a full head of hair so that's exciting. We had our appt next and the Midwife we met with was Linda. She was super nice. My blood pressure was back to normal and the baby's heartrate was between 132-138bpm. Perfect! They did a blood test afterwards and then Matthew and I went to Long John Silver's for lunch. Man did that hit the spot. I regretted all the vinegar that I used later though. I thought I was going to die and my tongue was a little confused about everything that I ate later in the day. Later on, Matthew and I went to our Infant and Child CPR class. The teacher was wonderfully nice and informative. We practiced on an infant sized doll and a toddler sized doll. We watched two videos. One on Car seat safety and one on how to child proof the house. We both felt good about the class. I hope we never have to use it, but we are ready if we do. We didn't get home until 9:45. I was exhausted so I went to bed. Your Dad stayed up and played with Peanut for awhile, then he came to bed. THIS DAY WAS GREAT!!!!!!
