The Bobolink, who loves rice 🌾 (the species name is oryzivorus, meaning rice eating) and other grains, is the only North American bird to have a white back and black underparts, a backwards tuxedo of sorts. :] They are related to Blackbirds and are awesome songbirds, and as far as songbirds they are the world’s most impressive migrants travelers, traveling about 12,500 miles to and from southern South America every year. In their lifetime they may travel the equivalent of 4 or 5 times around the circumference of the earth. They orientate themselves with the earth’s magnetic field, thanks to iron oxide in bristles in their nasal cavity, and in tissue around the offactory bulb and nerve. They also use the starry nights to guide their travels. So romantic… . . . This one sold before the post; it is that cute! . . . Remember, without birds we will not survive. 10% of this sale will go to @audubonsociety who with financial support from us humans, are trying to keep us and these magical birds alive.
