Btw if your partner being bi makes you feel insecure and threatened, that’s YOUR fucking problem and for YOU to work out. They don’t have to suddenly be quiet about their orientation or stop identifying as bi because of your fucking feelings. Work that shit out yourself.

One thing that I think is supper weird about the idea of “straight passing privilege” is that it kind of assumes some really unfair things about the gender presentation of bisexual people, asexual people, pansexual people, and whoever else it’s being applied to. Because I don’t think that anyone would dispute the idea that a lot of homophobia doesn’t just happen when you’re clearly in a relationship with someone of the same sex. A lot of it has to do with how people perceive your sexual orientation which often just comes down to how gender conforming you are. So when people assert that bi people have “straight passing privilege” they imply in a lot of cases that bisexual (asexual etc) people are necessarily more gender conforming than gay people. I feel like this is most common for bisexual women who are often thought of as “straight women who just so happen to like also girls” so *of course* they’re gender conforming and pass as straight most of the time. And this next bit is speculation (and y’all, tell me if I’m wrong about this) but I feel like that might be part of why bisexual men aren’t assumed to be as gender conforming as bi women. Because the more common narrative when it comes to bi men is “basically a gay guy who (claims to) like women” and we don’t expect gay guys so be gender conforming in the same way we expect straight women to be.
