Imagine if you could eat potato chips to help you lose weight, or drink a medicine-infused tea to treat cancer or ease chronic pain. It's a goal of a Queensland research team whose work is attracting worldwide interest.
Cool little article on the growth of bioPharming.
I really like the idea of potato chips marijuana which suppresses your appetite.
I also liked the point about big pharma not being against this since this likely wouldn’t replace them. for instance, you’re not going to start growing medicines when you can just buy them easily, cheaply, and in quality controlled settings. However, bioPharming can help the pharma industry save lots of money on manufacturing important proteins and the like, if they can get biology to do what they so far have laboratories doing. This also makes it potentially easier to increase the rate of pharma production, including in more remote locations.
