I was tagged by queercruzan.
1) I am the most resourceful person ever. Homeless for 4 years and you wouldn't know. I'm proud of me for the shit I pull off.
2) I make great Hair choices. My hair is colorful and spunky and I like it that way.
3) I am creative. When the tough gets going, I get creative.
4) Despite living in AZ and having to put up with defending literally whatever comes out of my mouth and not only hearing and seeing, but experiencing a lot of micro (and aggro) aggressions- I haven't killed or even punch somebody in the face yet and everyone should be amazed by my self-control. and probably thankful (bc I'd definitely be shot and we all know it).
5) I am capable of emotionally helping others even when my emotional state is at zero and I'm falling to pieces.
Mmmm... I'mma tag sunlight-chaser, neverlonelyinsolitude, bingwi, artistmarciax, phoetiquette, dakotacityukuleleorchestra, creamofbutts, finesweatingmoon, serafinacastaway, il-tenore-regina, and an extra 11th to the follower who reblogs everything always and makes me feel like I'm doing a great job totonok.
bingwi answered: Eastern Ojibwe/Odawa. I’ve seen a few things, but most are outside my current budget and I’m out in WA so no hope of local help.
I see what you mean. :(
I'm really lucky to be in my place of dialect (for the most part).
bingwi, what's your dialect?

hi darling! Here are the survey questions
I would greatly appreciate it if you could be as in-depth as possible. If something is upsetting or triggering, please let me know. Â Again, thank you so much for doing this! I owe you big time <3 <3
Racially, how do you identify? How do you identify ethnically? Racially I I.D. as a mixed race Native; ethnically I identify as Ojibwe and Métis.
What tribe(s) can your roots be traced to? Through my father the Anishinaabe Nation (Ojibwe/Chippewa, Odawa/Ottawa, and Bodéwadmi/Potawatomi) and the Wyandot, and through my mother Métis.
Do you know any of your tribe(s)’s language? I am currently learning Ojibwemowin, and I can speak a very little bit. Also contemplating trying to learn Wendat someday.
Do you uphold particular Native American traditions? Yes. I smudge, try to remember to put out tobacco, try to observe traditional customs, but it's a long work in process to decolonize and reclaim my culture.
Do you raise or plan to raise your children with a strong connection to their heritage? Yes, I've been raising them since they were born with a strong connection to their indigenous heritage. However, they are very white passing and I'm also trying to raise them to be very conscious of the privilege they get because of their appearances.
How do you feel about the forced assimilation of your people(s)? It's something I've always been sore about. I'm a big believer that we were just fine on our own without outside interference and my family has a deep history with land loss and relocation, forced conversion, Blood Quantum, the Indian Act, Indian Status, Residential Schools (grandparents and great-grandparents), gradual loss of language, and adoption to non-Native families (my father). I view the forced assimilation of Native peoples into white supremacist Euro-centric cultures as almost entirely a negative thing.
There is a street in Scottsdale called Indian School Drive. How does this make you feel? I would assume that said street in Scottsdale has some kind of an association with Residential Schools and that frustrates and angers me. It's not something to forget about, but it's also not something that I feel comfortable with casually used as a street name. Especially since I don't see any acknowledgement that I can find of why it or the park associated with it are named such.
What are your views of neo-colonialism and neo-imperialism? Do you see any similarities between the assimilation of other ethnic groups to what your own have suffered? I have a negative view of neo-colonialism and neo-imperialism. It's a very paternalistic approach of viewing non-Western peoples, and the assimilation and oppression of other ethnicities have large similarities to what my people have suffered. Land rights are being violated, environments destroyed, national institutions subverted for the purposes of western Capitalism, indigenous cultures and languages being directly and indirectly discouraged.Â
Hi' I finally saw your ask, I've been off Tumblr lately dealing with life, but I answered it publicly. Mek'sikoo is Mexico, Zhoodaa is Jew. There's more on my blog if you're interested.
thanks so much for answering! Your blog is amazing and I DO want to check some more stuff out! BTW no worries if you can’t answer things on time, your personal things are much more important :)
