To what extent does the term morena/moreno extend to? Like would someone of say daddy yankee's complexion be considered or is the term used to detail anyone who appears to racially ambiguous?
absolutely not. Morena(o) is our "black" identity. example, I am morena by upbringing and blood. However I look more Taina, so I identify as triguena (which is to mean, native/ black-native mixed) Daddy Yankee (at most- if he wanted to stretch it) could identify with being trigueno. But he never does much (public eye speaking) that constitutes being culturally closse or aware of his native roots sooo... I doubt he'd be down doing that (mostly because Puertorriquens have this thing where they police their celebrities bc they representing us. I remember when I was little and Jlo was dating some white dude and a lot of islanders were furious because she was dating "too white", I don't think he'd be down to piss off the island by misusing terms).
In short no racial ambigousness. Morena/o = Black. Triguena/o = Brown, Brown/Black mix. These are terms for non-white passing Puertorriquens basically (and Dominicans, I know they use the terms too. idk about cuba tho...)
