but it really bothers me when celebrities wear bindi's. Bindi's are traditional, and shouldn't be worn as some accessory. You should either be south asian, or someone who actively participates in our culture, not someone who wears them to concerts, or just because. Believe it or not, bindi's have a cultural meaning to us.

I went and saw my GP today, and somehow we got talking about Bindi's because my mum said I have a scar on my forehead from chickenpox that looks like one, and he said that I should go out and get one and wear it. I asked him if that was cultural appropriation, and he said no, bindi's are just decorative, anyone can wear them, Indian or not (he is Indian and travels home frequently so he would know). I thought it was really interesting that white people are typically really against Bindi's when according to my doctor it's fine for people of any race to wear them.
