When they were first successfully created, he and the other scientists kept safe distance. Once their nature was revealed, Dr. Connors spent almost all of his time with them; noting their behavior, sounds and communication, movement, etc etc. After a few weeks of getting to know the critters and eventually getting attached, he started opening their tank at night so they could snuggle up (the first night was a very cold one).

Of course letting little tickle monsters sleep on you has its risks. Sometimes they'll adjust themselves on his neck and wake him up to his own giggles, sometimes it gets too cold for their liking and they decide to journey under his nightshirt to his warmer midsection. Sometimes he snoozes his alarm too many times and they get impatient for breakfast pffft.
