I walked up to him as he was standing outside his apartment complex. It was only my second day knocking on doors so I was really asking God to speak through me extra specially because I wasn't sure on how to approach this man. I was able to say hello and make friends with him. I quickly realized that he only spoke Spanish, He told me he demolished buildings for a living and the conversation took a turn after I asked him why there were so many people burning buildings and creating catastrophes. He began to give me his reasons and then began to relate them to himself. He told me how there are people searching for something and they go crazy in trying to keep their lives put together; to be complete. I told him that there are so many people in the world looking for "something" and that is why there are so many addictions and craziness because everyone is trying to fill that void. I related to that and told him how I had tried so many things to fill that void I had inside but nothing seemed to fill it. As I said that, the man began to look away solemnly into the distance and nodded saying, "You are right." I told him that we are just like babies that are learning to walk. We are so weak but yet we try to do everything on our own. We fall and hit ourselves everywhere as we try to accomplish this but it's not until we are hurt and bruised that we finally let out a cry. It is in that moment that we realize that there has to be something or someone out that that can help us and that is why we cry. I told him that we are God's children and sometimes it takes us falling and hurting ourselves in order to realize that there is a God out there that can help us; that loves us but the reason we cry is because we know we need Him yet we don't know how to get to Him. The man began to tremble and his eyes got red. His countenance changed drastically and I was able to see a look of frustration and comprehension on his face. He then said, "Yes, you are right. You are completely right. That is me. I need God and I don't know how to get there." I stood there in awe at what had just come out of my mouth. I had no idea how I was able to change the conversation to the point where this man was able to see His need for Christ. I had been praying so hard this whole time and I knew that it was the work of the Holy Spirit speaking through me as the man said once again, " I know I need God and I don't know where to start." He looked away with tears in his eyes and trembling. I told him, "I can help you. I can teach you what he was taught me. I can teach you how to get to know God." He looked at me in amazement. I offered him personal Bible studies and he accepted. His hand was trembling so much as he wrote his contact information on the paper I gave him. I could see that He was amazed at what just had happened. He also got a "Paz Mas Alla de La Tormenta" (Steps to Christ) from me and took the first lesson from "Fe de Jesus" with him. I prayed with him before leaving and set the time and date of our Bible study. As I walked away afterward, I was speechless. I realized that God has used me to help that man have an encounter with Him. I saw how God used me to offer that man the opportunity to know Him and for the beginning of a walk with Christ. I am looking forward to studying with him next Sunday. Please keep him in your prayers.
