a/n: i’m back just to post this bc i miss kim hanbin dearly :( p.s might do a part 2 if you guys would like it xx
there’s a soft sigh and then a quiet snore as you peer above the pages of your book. hanbin had been lying on the carpeted floor of your room for some time now. he’d arrived unannounced at your apartment about three hours ago with a bright smile and a plastic bag filled with sweet goodies.
“i walked past an ad for your favourite snack so i thought i’d bring you some.” he explained as he waltzed into your apartment like he’d lived there all his life.
which was becoming true to an extent.
after you’d declared that you needed to do some reading for a class, hanbin had whined and muttered a series of complaints for a good 20 minutes. immersed in your textbook, you’d taken no notice in the silence of the room - or more the lack of noise from the man on the floor. now, however, hanbin’s silence had caught your attention and you set the hardback book beside you before wriggling to the end of your bed.
on the soft carpet, hanbin was sprawled out on his back, his long curls falling over his closed eyes and his emerald green jumper seemed to swallow him whole. his lips were apart enough to allow an occasional snore to pass them and you smiled.
turning your back to him, you reached for your phone, checking the time displayed. it was far too late for hanbin to get back to the dorms and even if he insisted, you didn’t feel comfortable sending him off this late into the night. for you, there were no problems with having hanbin spend the night in your apartment. for hanbin? it was a different story.
“hanbin? binnie? wake up.” with your sock-clad foot, you nudged his stomach, eliciting a groan from your boyfriend. he rolled over onto his stomach, his cheek squished against the pillow he’d slipped under his head.
sighing, you moved to crouch beside him before leaning over to press a kiss to his hair. in a hushed voice, you whispered, “you can’t spend your first night here on the floor, babe.”
suddenly, hanbin lifted his head, only for it to collide with your own forehead. you cried out as you rolled onto the floor, rubbing the throbbing skin.
“you could’ve warned me you were gonna get up!” you whine, glaring at hanbin who stared back at you with wide eyes.
“d-did you just say spend the night here?” he stuttered.
“yes? it’s too late for you to go home, silly. you were asleep for quite a while and i lost track of time. i don’t want you to go home by yourself at this hour, so just stay here for tonight.”
hanbin’s bottom lip jutted out into a pout as he contemplated his options - though he didn’t really have much a choice. “are you sure?” he squeaked, scratching the back of his neck.
you smiled at him and nodded, holding your hand out to him, “come on, i’ll get you a spare toothbrush.”

Sunday Morning was being played on the radio while you were making pancakes for breakfast. You were humming along the song, a satisfied smile painting your mellow lips as you flipped yet another fizzing pancake.
You knew the chocolate-cinnamon flavoured sweet treat was Bobby’s favourite even though at first it was a mere attempt on your part. You saw this recipe while you were flipping through a food magazine one day and the unusual pancake immediately caught your attention. You decided to try it out yourself, and as a huge foodie Bobby was, he had to be the first one to taste the outcome. You vividly remember how content he was and how many hugs he gave you for such a delicious breakfast, so ever since then, whenever you were in the mood to make pancakes (or your boyfriend asked for it), you went with Bobby’s favourite.
This time was no different. You were pretty sure that the sight of his favourite breakfast would totally make Bobby’s day, that’s why you opted for the chocolate-cinnamon pancakes this morning.
As soon as you gently placed the finished pancake on a plate, a hand reached for it and the pancake was immediately gone.
“Hey!” You exclaimed frantically. “Be careful! It’s still hot!” You reprimanded your boyfriend who couldn’t care less about your warning. Even though you could still see the sleepiness in his eyes (not to mention the way his hair looked like a bird nest), he was already very energetic. If he was this mischievous early in the morning, you knew he would be up to no good during the rest of the day.
“It’s okay, babe,” Bobby grinned widely, his eyes sparkling with tiny little dots of playfulness. “I can take it. I’m also hot,” he added rather shamelessly, earning an eyeroll from you. Nonetheless, no matter how hard you tried to remain stern, you soon burst into laughter.
You couldn’t deny that being Bobby’s girlfriend was anything but plain. He was the definition of uniqueness, warmth and unpredictability. You could never really be prepared for what he was up to, sometimes he was being cheesy, sometimes he was being dirty-minded as hell. Sometimes he didn’t remember that you’d told him to change the lightbulbs, yet sometimes he took out the rubbish without you saying anything. Though there were two dates he would always keep in mind: your anniversary and your birthday. He would purposefully not let you fall asleep the night before your birthday, so he could be the first one to wish you happy birthday. Not to mention the anniversary dates. Boy sure knew how to surprise you each and every time.
He may have looked quite intimidating at first (small wonder you didn’t dare to approach him even if he was one of the most frequent customers at the café you worked), yet he was a real softie inside. He still carried around the Winnie the Pooh plushie he was given when he was younger, he could play the guitar, drums and the piano, yet he would never shove any of his musicality down your throat unless you wanted him to (you never protested though), he always complimented you no matter how badly you did something or how inedible your meals were, and he never once failed to make you smile when you were under the weather. He was a particularly good listener and always had a useful piece of advice to share, yet he would never let you leave him hanging when he saw that something was bothering you.
His cheeky side was also one of the endless things you loved about him (and the list just kept going), thus you couldn’t be mad at him when he stole the first pancake and tried to make up for it with childish excuses.
“Sit down, and I’ll bring the fresh ones to the table,” you suggested as you poured some of the pancake mix into the pan.
“How about I watch you from here instead and steal every pancake you make?” Bobby reciprocated rather brassily, making you go on full-blush mode in a second.
“Yah, Kim Jiwon!”
“What?” he raised a challenging eyebrow in question while he closed the gap between the two of you. He was grinning so widely, you could see his bunny smile showing which was one of the seven wonders in the world (in your opinion). He may not have been the definition of beauty, yet he was sure attractive and adorable as hell. “You can’t resist me?” he asked as he reached for your waist and brought you closer to him.
You could see the fire burning in his orbs, the heat already creeping up your neck. Bobby didn’t usually fancy skinship, but when he did, he was as touchy as no one else you’d ever met. Just another example of his duality.
“You are such a tease,” you huffed, pouting at the boy.
“You’re lucky it’s raining,” he pointed at the window which was tainted by tiny little raindrops. Yet, the calming sound of the rain was just another background music to your cozy scene, and you couldn’t mind it. “You have to spend the whole day inside with me, the biggest tease in the world,” he smirked as he let go of you, not wanting the pancake to get burnt (or you to get too embarrassed).
Either way, you were thankful that he took some steps back because you weren’t sure you could stand on your feet as steadily as you wanted if he kept on invading your personal space.
“So what do you want to do now that we are stuck inside?” Bobby inquired genuinely curiously as he took a seat beside a table. You turned back to the pan, taking care of the next few pancakes while you were pondering.
“I don’t know,” you shrugged. “Maybe we could watch a movie?”
“Didn’t you say you want to watch an animated movie?” Bobby recalled the last time you two were watching movies and it was an angst Japanese one with one of the main characters dying at the end. Right then and there, you told him that you want to watch something cheerful and lighter next time, an animated movie seeming like the perfect choice.
“Yeah, that’s right,” you nodded, letting a sweet smile accompany your words. You knew your boyfriend remembered such trivial things, yet it warmed your heart every time you experienced his attentiveness first-hand.
“How about Hercules? Or maybe Mulan?” the boy was sure quick to come up with suggestions, but it came as no surprise since he was the bigger animation fan out of the two of you. You usually enjoyed light-hearted romances or comedies more. However, being Bobby’s girlfriend came with many advantages and one was becoming a fan of such movies for children. You couldn’t mind though; as long as you two watched it together, it could be anything. (Okay, maybe not anything, but you all get it.)
“Which one is better?” You turned around after you finished with another pancake and waited for the next one to become golden brown and crispy. The boy looked like he was in deep thoughts as if you had asked him the “which one was sooner? The egg or the chicken?” question and not his preference regarding Mulan and Hercules.
“I’d say Mulan. Just because Mushu is a legend,” he announced with wild gestures, prompting you to shot a confused glare at him. Wait? Should you have known who Mushu was? Had he mentioned anything about some sushu-mushu?
When Bobby caught your rather puzzled expression, his eyes became twice as wide as before.
“What? You don’t know who Mushu is?” he exclaimed as if you had told him that you don’t know who the current president of South Korea was. He even rose from his seat, his utter bewilderment showing in every single one of his moves. “Then, we are watching Mulan today. The first and the second movie as well. Period,” he announced hastily and finally sat down again.
You let out a carefree laughter as you watched his little play, your heart melting at his childish pout. He went on rambling how ground-breaking Mulan was, especially when he was young, you paying your full attention to him. No matter what he talked about, you adored listening to him because he could be so enthusiastic and immersed; you didn’t have to look at him twice, you could immediately see when he was engrossed into something that meant a lot to him.
Of course, Bobby’s choice was the perfect choice for that rainy day when neither of you felt like leaving the flat. Instead, you were watching the movies on Bobby’s laptop while both of you were on the couch, you snuggled up to his chest, resting your face just above his heart, getting lost in the cacophony of his heartbeat. He was gently caressing your cheeks, then he went on playing with your hair, and he also started drawing invisible lines on your back while you were watching the second movie. He was like a child while he watched one of his favourite movies of all time, gasping at the right scenes (even though he stated that he had watched Mulan at least 50 times already), pretending to despise the confession scenes and getting all emotional when everyone thought that the main guy character died.
Needless to say, Bobby was a piece of art himself, so despite all your efforts to focus on Mulan only, your eyes always found their way back to your boyfriend’s face just like stars always find their way back home.

Snow used to remind you of the bad times.
That was the time you couldn't escape from home, thus you couldn't escape from all the anger and frustration that your parents triggered in you. Everyone was convinced that you had a loving family, one that was perfect and flawless. The truth couldn't have been further from all the assumptions. Your parents were supportive ‒ in some cases. Your parents took your side ‒ sometimes. Your parents wanted you to be whoever you wished to be, and they accepted you just the way you were ‒ never. They always found something to point out, to criticize, to make fun of. That's why you used to spend so much time outside your house, let it be at the school library, at the mall or at the café with your friends. However, getting home at night in winter was more frightening than spending your time with your parents. Since you lived in the suburbs, only one bus came in every hour, and it darkened quite early. Not to mention that your neighbourhood wasn't the safest one either.
Ever since you met Junhoe, snow wasn't such a bad thing anymore. You met him at a Christmas market when you accidentally bumped into each other, the story of how you two met as simple as that. There was nothing extraordinary about that; you were with your brother and he was with his group of friends. You both apologized, then went on your separate ways.
However, a week later, you noticed him in your favourite independent café where you frequently went because they had the best caramel latte in the city. Plus, they had one of the nicest staff which was a huge bonus when it came to eating (or for that matter drinking) out. You didn't come up to him because you didn't really have a valid reason to do so. Yet, you noticed him and he noticed you, a small appearing on both of your faces. Not until you visited the café next week, did you actually start talking. The café was crazy busy, and you could barely sit down, so you opted for the seat beside his instead of the one beside a creepy old dude.
Everything was history since then; you started out as mere friends, then friendship turned into something more serious. You started dating after two months of getting to know each other. You grew fond of each other through conversations above a steaming cup of café and through walks along the icy river that ran across the city.
Small wonder he always had something special for each winter you spent together. He exactly knew your relationship with parents, thus he tried his best to make you forget about your painful memories related to winter by creating heart-warming memories instead.
This winter was no different.
Junhoe couldn't stop talking about the annual Christmas market, suggesting more and more activities that were related to the winter celebration.
"How about ice-skating on the Town Hall Square? And there's also a carousel there. Not to mention that a week before Christmas, they'll hold an outdoor movie night when you can watch Frozen," he chattered happily, not giving a crap about the disapproving glances people threw in his direction.
You were having a chill afternoon at the independent café where you met, talking about your plans and duties in December. Your boyfriend was quick to bring up the Christmas market topic, much to your amusement. He was way too adorable when he got immersed into something.
"They play Frozen?" You raised a curious eyebrow at him. A movie night wasn't unheard of, if anything, it was a tradition during your city's Christmas market. However, you had never seen an animated movie in the programme book before.
"Yeah." Junhoe shrugged with that infamous deadpan expression of his. "You know, they want as many people as possible."
"You sure you've seen it right?"
"Yes, it was there. Come and join us for the winter fun ‒ Frozen at the outdoor cinema, December 17th, 7 pm," he cited as if it had been in the news, his unworldly expression making you chuckle. He seemed just as excited as if he had been someone 10 years younger, and his childish joy was contagious.
However, you couldn't deny that you were a bit suspicious, so you decided to check the facts for yourself. Frozen was indeed in the programme booklet of the Christmas market, though not in the way you had expected. It was mentioned in the kids' section. It was stated that they welcome kids up to the age of 14, and there was also a special discount for families. You didn't know how strict they were, thus you gave a call to the organisers.
"So you can't watch the movie if you are an adult?" You repeated the words, furrowing your eyebrows in question.
"Only if you are with a child under the age of 14," the woman on the other side of the phone stated flatly, her voice as bored as if she had been answering the same question over and over again.
You didn't know what kind of regulation was that and what was it for, yet a day after Junhoe first mentioned the Frozen movie night, he also looked into the issue, and found the very same result. Needless to say, he was disheartened. He was sulky for a while because he had already planned out how you would spend the whole day on December 17th. You felt guilty for doubting him, yet at least he didn't have to get to know about the whole thing on the spot. That would have been way worse.
You felt so sorry for Junhoe that you wanted to do something for him. After many failed attempts, you finally came up with an amazing Plan B. Though you needed to convince your 6-year-old cousin who told you at least thirty times that Frozen was too childish and cheesy for her liking before you bribed her with an entire month worth of chocolate, the plan was actually pretty good. Not just because you were the one who came up with it.
So on December 17th, you went to the Christmas market with your little cousin ‒ Daseul ‒ and your boyfriend, Junhoe. Those two didn't really know each other, small wonder Junhoe always whispered questions into your ears such as:
"Do you think she likes me?"
"Did she really laugh at my joke? Was it that good?"
"Would she be mad if I bought her something?"
"Relax, Junhoe," you reassured him with a pat on his back after some more questions. "She likes you, okay? She wouldn't be here if she didn't like you," you tried your best to soothe his nerves because truth to be told, Daseul was a very adamant and very strong-headed girl despite her age, so if she wanted to leave someone behind, she would do it without giving it a second though. Plus, she was hard to please, so seeing how she laughed and enjoyed herself beside Junhoe, you were sure she didn't plan on running away.
"Good." Junhoe let out a long, long sigh as if all the weight had been lifted off his chest.
"You are doing great. Just be yourself, she likes it," you encouraged him, and gave him a quick peck on his left cheek. Him, on the other hand, turned to you and attacked your lips, squeezing all of his gratitude into one very long, very passionate kiss.
"Argh," Daseul snorted from behind you. "You guys are gross," she huffed, turning her head to the little wooden houses instead of you two.
Junhoe was the first to back away, smiling sheepishly at her words. You two exchanged a knowing glance because that's exactly how you felt when you were her age. However, as time goes by and as everyone matures, love doesn't seem so gross anymore.
"Ah, kids these days." You shook your head, a mischievous grin plastered on your face. Junhoe reciprocated your reaction, turning back to watch her reaction.
"Ah, adults these days," Daseul added cheekily. Junhoe and you, you both burst into laughter seeing her theatrical reply. Even though she wanted to appear all fierce and mature, she was as adorable as a little puppy.
Needless to say, the rest of the night was full of teasing remarks on Daseul's parts, and after a while, Junhoe also joined in, his sassy side showing. They got along even better when they were teasing each other, thus you had the time of your life watching their interactions. Watching Frozen was just a tiny part of the wonderful day you spent together, the rest just as heart-warming and fun as the movie itself, if not more. You were supposed to be a family (at least for the movie night), and you had to admit that it wasn't even that odd.
After that day, you could totally imagine Junhoe as a father, and even though you would want to wait for a couple more years before having children, you were sure that he would make an amazing father.
