Yeah you're right, Louis and Bethaney are more convincing than Louis and Hannah. I'm guessing that Louis and Hannah were in a relationship but there were only feelings on her part. He did seem fond of Bethaney, but like.. that's a gay man.

This isn't about anyone, just generally speaking as a gay man. Gay men usually know from a young age that they're not straight but not all of them act on it. Some will CO but others will ignore and suppress their urges or they'll live in denial maybe for the rest of their lives. It's not unusual for gay men to have had girlfriends when they were younger due to experimenting, societal pressures, internalized homophobia, not coming to terms with their sexuality etc. So it drives me crazy when people say that someone can't be gay if they've had girlfriends, or that a gay man is lying about having had girlfriends in the past. They could be lying or they could be telling the truth. If the girlfriends were from when they were younger I'm more inclined to believe they're telling the truth. It all depends on the context. If they're promoting a heterosexual movie then I might be skeptical. Take Louis and Hannah for example. People are still trying to prove that it was a fake relationship when there's no reason for it to have been fake. There are pics of them together at school, before X Factor. He dropped her like a hot potato when he met Harry. Her brother was angry and called Louis the f slur. I'm inclined to think that was real and her brother's anger was real. He knew that Louis left Hannah for Harry. It doesn't make Louis any less gay. People experiment, especially when they're younger, and that's fine. He came to terms with his sexuality when he was young. For some gay men it can take much longer. Some don't realize until they're married and have kids with a woman. That's my rant! People have a really ignorant view on gay men. It's not all black and white.
