Adeline was the one who found the photo and thank archons because if it was Kaeya he’d have to wear an additional eyepatch (pretty inconvenient when you only have a pair of eyes if u ask me). But Kaeya other eye is only safe if he manages not to tease Diluc or laugh (basically rip him)

Thank Barbatos for this scene. Literally. Venti started an argument between Kaeya and Diluc who plays better (Somewhere along the lines of “If I remember correctly one of you played like shit and the other one amazingly well”). Diluc took that personally, grabbed Kaeya by the collar and dragged him onto the tavern podium. And what started as a serious competition soon turned into siblings rivalry and finally ended with laughs and head butts. Thanks to the fact that they learned to play together, no one lost their remaining healthy eye. Also if you ask Diluc he’ll deny it ever happened, but next time Adelinde manages to bully Kaeya into joining them for dinner, two newly purchased violins would be put within eye reach. Just in case Kaeya would like a rematch… srls just for the rematch… the rematch indeed…

Also seeing Kaeyas way of handling the violin it’s a miracle he plays so well. On the other hand Diluc keeps on loosing his tempo and hurry with the tune. So they are basically on the same level. Which is still an above average level, you could even say genius level as they both gave up on playing since a stormy night years ago.

Anon asked for “diluc playing violin for kaeya (or another way around, doesn't matter)”. But while looking for reference I saw those two photos and my brain just short wired. Also “World’s Smallest Violin” by AJR is the reason I was able to finish this in a flash! I recommend listening to it and having a glimpse at these two idiots again! Who got distracted momentarily and got pushed off a cliff during a fight? Who was the one just as smart, jumping in after his sibling to the rescue without any consideration that they could’ve both drown? It doesn’t really matter because all ended well - except for those coats of fur that now lay at the bottom of the lake. And as they try to dry a bit before returning to the city Kaeya remembers that one time he fell into the lake because he caught a fish too strong for his “fun” sized self at the time, how Diluc followed suit to save his new brother and how Crepus was there to fish both of them out. And while their father is gone and they swam to shore themselves the memories spread fizzling joy in his heart. Diluc soft tone doesn’t help either especially not with that smile plastered on his face. For a second the cavalry captain feels like a child again. So he does what children do best - laugh with a brilliance that could rival the sun. And how can Diluc be mad at his brother knowing far too well he himself can’t stop the laughter that is reaching his eyes. It was a great day for a swim after all and he could afford many coats like the one he just lost. A small price to pay in exchange for the feeling of having a little bit of his brother back.

During Midterms and Finals Diluc didn’t sleep a wink, compared to Kaeya who couldn’t give up on his beauty sleep. But Kaeya did study hard late at night and of course last second so if it wasn’t for his brother he would’ve missed most of his exams. So while Kaeya will go back to his normal self the moment he finished the last exam Diluc will hibernate for 3 days straight and it will be his brother turn to wake him up just to make sure he eats something and drinks.
