I am very intrigued by this paragraph from the Missouri department of conservation website that seems to suggest people try hand-feeding injured flies to sand wasps

I saw several Bembix americana yesterday, and I was ecstatic to see a (more common) genus related to my Steniolia! These girls were busy burrowing all up and down the softer sands on the cliffs beside the beach, and I even was able to collect one that I found dead nearby the burrows (she may have finished her job in laying eggs, or gotten in too intense a brawl with the other females, as they’d fight with one another if they got too close to each others burrows…?). Whidbey Island, WA, USA.
A revamped cartoon from 2014. Decided to redraw it with clean lines. Those Bembix wasps love to dig.
I know who he is now
Not a bee. This is a sand wasp (Bembix sp.) on Asclepius speciosa. It might appear intimidating in this image, but it’s really a gentle and energetic flower visitor that has spectacular colors. The adults consume nectar to keep their engines running and will provision their developing young with flies they catch here and there. One of my personal favorite pollinators. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~#sandwasp #bembix #asclepiasspeciosa

For those who have never seen one- here is an American sand wasp I spotted at the park a while ago. These wasps are amazing hunters, and will typically bring paralyzed prey back to their burrow for their young to eat!
Sand Wasp (Bembix pallidipicta) on my Parents' Farm, July 2013. I'm not going to talk about the featured Sand Wasp species yet! But I have published a new post on my blog at norfolknaturalist.ca (link in profile) so check it out if you're interested. It's about the Sand Wasp Tribe Alyssontini. . . . . . . . #nature #ontario #sandwasp #naturephotography #bembix #alyssontini #insectphotography #insectsofinstagram #naturalhistory #blognorfolk #norfolkwild #norfolkcounty #cwfphotoclub #wasp (at Norfolk County, Ontario) https://www.instagram.com/p/CKi4nlrgp-o/?igshid=c043qappjw67
