I don’t know who needs to hear this but you don’t need to prove your blackness to people who have no interest in trying to understand you. I know it hurts when it’s you’re own people but they are just projecting their internalized racism onto you. People are just mad that they can’t put you in a box because you’re authenticity puts them off cuz it’s like “wait a minute I’m used to seeing certain people in a particular type of way so how does that work?” I have no interest in explaining myself to people who’s true goal is to make you hate yourself as much as they hate themselves.

I’m gonna tell everyone something
And im a little tipsy so bear with me. What follows next is my lived experience. When you carve out a space for yourself, and you are authenticly you — good things happen.
Example 1: I was tired of my Instagram being full of things I didn’t like. Following people just to stay trendy or whatever. So I created a more personal one that catered to only positive images of blackness. Black people (and people who support black people) living and thriving. I’m moving to LA in 2 days because of a job opportunity I saw FROM having done this.
If I didn’t take the time to create a space for the content I wanted to see and be, I wouldn’t have this opportunity now. I wouldn’t have seen that post, and I wouldn’t have applied for the job and gotten it. Carve out spaces for yourself and your interests.
Example 2: This very space here! I have made so many friends and am planning an abroad trip and a trip to a wedding but that aside I’ve met people who actually SEE me as a human being. Rob, No, Tracy, Chan, TT, Jess and others. I’m currently about to read a book No recommended that is about to blow my mind. And it’s just like — im delving deeper into me and who I am simply because I said “fuck it, im gonna do what makes me happy. I’m gonna be weird and niche and create a space for myself and fall down this hole”
The point I’m trying to make is listen to the innermost parts of yourself and you’ll wind up doing things, seeing things, and meeting people that will change your life for the better. But u gotta say fuck everyone else and do you. No matter how far it takes you from the beaten path, or how ostracizing or uncomfortable it feels.
So missionary work is on my mind. I reposted that comment about how it is difficult and then read Presid...I mean Elder Uchtdorf’s talk about Missionary Work from this last General Conference. Anyway, it was basically the theme of our stake conference and for once I actually liked how they talked about it. I mean I don’t agree that the difference between a friend and a minister is a minister invites (I think that is dumb, the difference is that you will call a minister to help in your hour of need to help with the dirtiest of tasks and you’ll call and talk to your friend all about it later). However, they focused a lot more on how you have to become something through the Gospel, you have to be living the Gospel to share it. Stuff about how when you live the Gospel you are filled with the light of Christ and the light makes people ask questions or want to have what you have which leads to actually productive conversations about the Gospel instead of the forced religious conversations and invites.
Anyway, I realized that you share the Gospel by being an authentic believer and follower of Christ. The light is from living in harmony with the teachings of Jesus Christ and what you share is who you are and the way you live, which is why people don’t like some forms of missionary work because it is more hypocritical. And this leads to the issue that when you are queer, sharing the message of the restored Gospel of Jesus Christ is difficult because part of your authenticity and relationship with Gd is based on the parts of you that is queer and Gd letting you know He created you that way and intends on you being that way, yet the Church rejects the truth that is as integral to you as your faith in Jesus Christ, your testimony of the Book of Mormon and the First Vision.
Basically, it’s hard to share the Gospel as a queer member because you are meant to ignore half of your Gospel identity because the mormons in Christ’s restored Church deny your experiences. Even though we are best suited for missionary work because we have learned to be authentic to ourselves and the parts of the Gospel that we live because it is a soul-searching, spiritual journey to realize you are queer and then to accept and act on it. So go forth and preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ through living your authentic queer life that is fully integrated with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The command isn’t to preach the Church, it is to invite others to Christ.
