FLOSTRE [to the ventriloquist's dummy sitting on his knee]: Have you been keeping up with philosophers recently?
SOCRATES: The ones who came after me aren't worth bothering about.
FLOSTRE: Don't you think anybody did anything worthwhile in the last 2500 years.
SOCRATES: Perhaps one or two. There's Frege…
FLOSTRE: Gottlob?
SOCRATES: No, but I know a little man who can get you some. [Horse laugh on the trombone.]
FLOSTRE: Talking of Frege, can you say Begriffsschrift?
SOCRATES: I can if you can. [Appreciative chuckles]
FLOSTRE: I just did.
SOCRATES: Ah yes, now I remember. Well can I say Begriffsschrift while you drink a glass of beer?
FLOSTRE: I don't drink beer.
SOCRATES: Gottle of geer.
FLOSTRE: Please don't try to humiliate me in front of all these people.
SOCRATES: Beschniffgriffnift. Want to try that one with a dry martini?
FLOSTRE: What's yours? A cup of hemlock?
SOCRATES: I don't think that's a bit funny.
