Noise. Nothing but noise. Animals roared and howled, waves crashed, wooden ships creaked and groaned under howling winds, thunder rumbled as cannons boomed out in a constant roar, the quiet shifting of cloth, the clashing of steel and the crack of gunfire, and the voices- The voices. There were so many. A cacophony of voices, man and woman, young and old, of all different pitches and accents and languages, talking about nothing and everything. Boring small talk, arguments and disputes, confessions of love, declarations of protection, pleas for mercy, random jokes and laughter orders shouted over the constant ROAR of war and fire- all so loud it pierced your eardrums and rattled your bones. And under it all, an endless stream of half-heard whispers in a long-dead tongue, speaking of so many impossible, wonderful, horrible things... The sheer volume of it all, of the entire world talking/screaming/singing/laughing/yelling/fighting/LIVING- it was too much.
