Beavertown Gamma Ray American Pale Ale (Picked up at a Waitrose in London). A 3 of 4. Definitely sets itself apart from UK pale ales with the relatively prominent orange citrus, tropical fruit, and faint vegetal hop notes. The body is light to medium and has quite large carbonation. Drinks easily, and few complaints here.

FRIDAY FLASHBACK + HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO SKIP KLINEā¦In 1993 I started to work with Davy Jones (Monkees) to make recordings. That unfolded into hours of song-crafting, planning, and commuting to studios around central Pennsylvania (where we both lived at the time). Sometime in 1999 he rang me up to say, āThereās a chap with a recording studio just down the road from my house. He seems to have it going on with gear and a room. Come over and check him out.ā That chap was Skip Kline, an engineer-producer-musician who is as saintly as he is talented. He was/is also a local star: The voice of the iconic āBeaver Motorsā radio ads that permeate the local airwaves.
Skip ran a well-kept and well-appointed room called Songcrafters Studios, equipped with a grand piano, the right gear, and the know-how to do what we needed (the studio also had a couch that cast sleeping-spells on anyone who sat on it). Over time Skip and I found a rapport, discovering what we had in common and didnāt have in common (no coffee-maker in the studio?), and we had great brainstorming sessions. He is a straight-arrow, a true Pennsylvania friend, and a āgo to guyā that Davy and I could count onāwe notched up 100s of hours at Skipās studio (still a running operation). Beavertown Heavy Gravity Hazy IPA (Picked up at a Waitrose in London). A 3 of 4. Nice hazy and medium-thick body here and a bit of tropical fruit and orange in the nose. The hop profile doesn't blow you away, but this delivers what you'd expect from an American-style hazy IPA quite well.
Beavertownās Neck Oil Session IPA on tap at St. Vincent Bar in Edinburgh. A 3 of 4. Quite light, as youād expect, but has a nice hop profile to it that presents mostly pine and citrus but some other interesting notes as it warms, too. Meant to be easy-drinking, and it succeeds quite well.
