While Desmond was generally more comfortable in a city, there was something to be said for the beauty of nature at certain times of night. Perhaps it hearkened back to his human life, where he’d spent countless days in the vibrant green of medieval Ireland, though those were honestly quite distant and rather hazy memories now. What had it been like to walk in the sun? There were memories there, but he could hardly remember it and it wasn’t something he missed all that much. What he did miss were the people and he often avoided thinking of those days because of the painful memories they aroused. He also avoided it because he was afraid that if he lingered too long he wouldn’t really be able to remember their faces anymore, that over the centuries the details had slipped away.
Such were not fitting thoughts for such a lovely evening, with the moon and the stars so bright and visible, reflected in the surface of the lake. Desmond was taking a leisurely stroll, enjoying the crisp air and the relative quiet, when he noticed a figure closer to the lake’s edge. Curious, he approached and realised he recognized their scent. “Mr. McCallum.” He greeted, quietly, pleased to see the other vampire in his own subdued way. Desmond was formal in general though he could tailor his manner somewhat to who he happened to be around and their preferences and he had learned that Beau respected some older conventions, though he was rather young compared to Desmond himself. They’d met a few times before Desmond had settled in Wolford and Desmond thought they were on good terms. “It’s a lovely evening.” He glanced up at the moon again, hands clasped loosely behind his back.
