Les projecteurs sont aujourd’hui sur Arlo Parks, jeune chanteuse du Sud-Ouest de Londres, et sur son tout premier EP. Arlo nous livre une soul à fleur de peau, à la fois timide et profondément amère. Que ce soit avec Cola, son meilleur titre à nos yeux, où elle parle de trahison et de tromperie, ou sur Super Sad Generation (titre parle de lui-même), la plume d’Arlo Parks se veut lucide, authentique et pleine de désillusion malgré son jeune âge. “Quand je regarde ma génération, je vois un kaléidoscope de découragement, de passion et d’anxiété. C’est un mélange étrange de tristesse et d’intimité qui submerge la génération Z.” explique la jeune londonienne pour décrire le titre Super Sad Generation. Du haut de ses 17 ans, Arlo Parks est malgré elle une porte-parole pour les jeunes femmes noires, sa génération et la communauté LGBTQ. A mi-chemin entre la soul limpide et proprette de Jorjah Smith, le R&B sensuel de Syd (qu’elle admire) et les vibes mélancoliques des soeurs d’Ibeyi, Arlo Parks se fraye un chemin prometteur, au milieu des Mahalia, Loyle Carner et consorts.
