How I went from shy to not shy.
Another blog topic :)
Shyness. It's a tough one, right? We all change slightly depending on the people we are with. Shyness is usually apparent when meeting new people, especially within a situation like a formal dinner.
So how do you get your confidence up?
Before I went to uni, I struggled with meeting new people. I didn't know what to say, I avoided eye contact and kept quiet. Since being away from home properly for the first time, I have discovered that the only way to overcome shyness is to start appreciating yourself. It's very cheesy, but loving yourself is pretty much the only way to battle it. I think we keep quiet because we might be ashamed of certain personality traits we have; we worry people won't like us, we worry we'll choke on what we're drinking and everybody will laugh.
If you accept that you are not perfect, but there are awesome things about you, things get easier. For the first time in my life, I can be myself around my friends here. Over a period of a few months, I realised that my confidence has shot up without me even realising it. Of course, this isn't just down to me - it's down to the wonderful people I've met, too.. BUT I wouldn't have met them if I didn't make the effort in the first place.
I know I have faults: I have a temper, I get bored and moody when my best friend shops for too long etc. But that's alright. I speak my mind now. If I feel there's something wrong or something to be improved, I will nearly always say it. That's a big help in beating shyness. Just start talking and those who are your real friends won't mind what you say. In fact, they'll love you for it.
I dunno, maybe I've just been incredibly lucky in finding a group of friends who seem to like me for who I am. I've never really had that before.
So yeah - smile at people, talk about any random stuff and just be yourself. Also, listen to awesome music whilst walking down the street and walk like you owwwwwn it :P
The Life Of A Shy Person
Dealing with and beating shyness is necessary if you are wanting to gain the most out of life. I've put together a few of the ideas that made me go from suffering from shyness to being an extrovert. It wasn't a simple process, however being shy is like a disorder that holds you back from all the good that a life without shyness can treat you to, consequently I consider it extremely thoroughly. Here's hoping you will too, even more so if being shy is affecting your happiness and keeping you indoors out of the public eye. Just think - Others have been there. Individuals often catch the shy bug in youth when it's easy to make blunders during learning and create a shy persona to avoid feeling embarrassed. When we become grown up, the shy person wont protect us nowadays and as such, we begin to have feelings of being far too scared of potentially awkward interactions and evade interactions needlessly, leading to diminished self confidence and inept social aptitude. You are not in the desert on this one, a lot of people have caught the shy bug in their life, however, all people can take some heed in the fact that there are many individuals who back in the day let shyness hold them back and now they have beaten shyness. Enhance Your Self Esteem. If you build self esteem yourself then you take away the notions of low self worth and supersede them with emotions of command and confidence. Kicking Shyness To he Curb - Stop Being A Shy Person If this is your choice of tactic then kudos to you. Grabbing the problem and saying "no more" is a great start. I know of several techniques you could use and then day by day, tackle the various problems that hinder social ability and restrict prosperity. By completing a single task each day you will test your confidence with tiny Techniques that accomplish large positive results and construct your adeptness socialize.
Don’t let negativity influence you.
One of the problems with shyness is absorbing the opinions of others or at the lest being super aware of those opinions, making social encounters an exercise in anxiety.
Each day you work on one problem that makes you afraid and you deal with it on a small achievable level - There'll be no shifting paradigms or changing too fast, you do sensible challenges that allow you get out of your comfort zone and create impetus towards the big picture. It does not need to be so painful any more, just as long as you have the attitude that by making a stand everything will get better.
