charles having moral and harm-based ocd --- having lost so many people that he is terrified of losing anyone else, engaging in magical thinking and compulsions to keep people safe. if he orders everything just right, everyone will be okay. if its all perfect, no one will get hurt. he just needs to be perfect and no one else will die. having violent intrusive thoughts that he is deeply afraid of anyone seeing. he's a telepath; there are other telepaths, they might find out how awful he is. there is something deeply wrong with him, and he is so afraid all of the time. think good thoughts, do good things, dress nice, eat well, be neat, be clean, everything has to be clean. he has to be good, perfect, moral, so no one dies.
