Mozilla just did a complete logo and identity redesign and Iβve gotta say, I like it.
The new logo is pretty clever. Theyβve switched the βillβ over to β://β making reference to the typical arrangement of characters in everyday URLs. I mean it makes sense for an internet company, right?
Whatβs really cool is that Mozilla didnβt secretly create the logo and make some big deal release about it. They got anyone who was interested to participate in the conversation and the process to make what is now their new logo.
After seeing the new logo announced I couldnβt help but think back to a logo I did for the Computer Science Society I was involved with during my time at McMaster.
The fireball on the left is the logo for Engineering at McMaster and the βCSSβ represents the βComputer Science Societyβ. Taking the notation from the Windows command line for drive folders, it made sense to set it up this way to show that the CSS was a part of the engineering faculty (i.e. a folder in the drive).
Sure this design wonβt have the impact like Mozillaβs logo but itβs interesting to see where the communityβs ideas are going in terms of good design and comparing it to my own work.
For a little throwback, hereβs a pic of me wearing a shirt with the logo at the clubs fair at McMaster back in 2014.
Thanks for reading!
