Tom sighed over the phone. “He broke his hand again. He had another surgery.”
“God, what a fucking mess,” Michael said, slumping down onto his couch.
“He missed the calendar shoot.”
“What? No Andre and puppies? Well, now I’m not even gonna fucking buy it.”
“That hurts my feelings, Latts. In fact, that hurts Chad’s feelings.”
“You should have adopted Chad. He would have made a nice addition to the family. He and Walter could have been friends.”
“God, I wish. But he was already adopted by a nice family.”
Michael exhaled deeply. “You guys sound like a fucking disaster without me. Burky’s broken his hand twice, and you were suspended, what, twice? Before the season began? I think you need me. I should just quit my job and join you guys over there.”
Tom laughed. “You know we’d welcome you in a heartbeat, Latts.”
Michael clutched the phone. “Yeah.” His mouth suddenly felt very dry. “That would be nice, now wouldn’t it.”
