Just across the road from Black Butte itself is this incredibly old water tower. Originally for filling up the water tanks of steam engines, it has also served as a place for those passing through to carve, paint, or otherwise mark messages and tags into it's surfaces.
There are some tags dating back almost a hundred years, while others are from mere months ago. Some are people I've never heard of, and some, are a little more familiar....
As I mentioned, There are two old box cars on the Black Butte property. They're from the 20s or so, made of wood, and have been converted into a performance space, and a gallery/library, respectively. They're incredibly chill spaces to hang out in (literally, in one case, because it was a refrigerator car, so it's super insulated, and doesn't heat up during the day). Lacking much in the way of natural light, it was difficult to photograph the interior. But I managed, because I'm awesome.
