on the topic of discord's self obliteration, many people are looking for ways to keep in touch with their buddies without that chaotic little app.
May I introduce to you... Forum posting?
I don't know how many of us remember, but there used to be ancient websites with Nyan-cat banners flying across the screen, and little gifs of dancing bananas at the side screaming "PEANUT BUTTER JELLY TIME!" where you'd go to talk about things like Homestuck, hetalia, and so on!
With the right bit of code, this can be turned into a live chatroom, something we are easily capable of doing.
The internet used to be an archipelago of websites and communities with levels of customization beyond what discord nitro could offer you! You can animate the text on your name, or the color of your font! Imagine, every time you strike a line through some of your text, a little samurai appears on your chatbox and cuts through it!
Mini games, True privacy, absolute control over your profile. Is someone trolling you? you don't just have a block option, you can outright IP ban them so they can't make alternate profiles to harass you!
And you can host the website at home on your own computer for free.
I have only touched the surface of what websites like these could be like. Thanks to capitalism, we have lost the freedom of expression that came with the internet, There's barely 5-ish websites that are populated anymore, and they all look the same, and they all are invasive and harmful to our mental health.
It's time for us to go back. Return the internet to the wild west it was always meant to be.
We must bring back the forums.
