β¨gay things on bbc merlinβ¨ s2 e8:
Itβs me. Iβm gay. I am so gay for this knight girl (Morgause?), I would actually sell my soul to be in Arthurβs place during the fight and have her pin me to the ground with her sword I-
But like, what did Merlin think the reason was behind Morgause and Morgana's closeness? Cause like, he didn't know that they were sisters, but he did jump straight to bribing Morgause with a chance to save Morgana in exchange for her giving up on her quest.
And another thing, what did Arthur think the reason was behind her "kidnapping" Morgana?
I'm not saying that at least Arthur thought what Morgause's attack was some twisted way of declaring her affections but-
Title: @thisbeautifuldelirium question #6
Question: Why does Gauis give Morgause over to the high priestesses? Itβs most likely not because of her magic, because this happens before Arthurβs birth/the purge.
Answer: Iβll admit this one isnβt specifically mentioned in the books. There isnβt really any additional info on Gorlois or Vivienne in general even in the books.
Since as you pointed out, Morgauese most likley wouldnβt have been killed for possessing magic.
The most logical explanation would be that Morgause was not the legitimate child of a union between Gorlois and Vivienne, but rather a bastard child born of Vivienne from an affair.
In the Merlin guidebook, it specifically notes: βMorgause gave Morgana a bracelet that had been passed down to her from her mother. It was this bracelet that helped Gaius identify Morgause, as it once belonged to the House of Gorlois β Morganaβs family.β
β’ If Morgause had been the legitimate daughter of both Gorlois and Vivienne, the book likely wouldnβt have emphasized that the bracelet came from her mother. In that case, Morgause and Morgana would have believed themselves to be full sisters, not half-sisters.
β’ Further proof: Morgause did not know that Uther was Morganaβs father, yet she still referred to herself and Morgana as only half-sisters. This suggests Morgause knew she was solely Vivienneβs daughter, with no blood ties to Gorlois.
βΈ»
Gaius, as court physician, was clearly involved in covering up Vivienneβs indiscretions, including the birth of Morgause. He sent Morgause to the Isle of the Blessed to hide the scandal & protect the baby.
β’ Giving Morgause to the priestesses removed her from court quietly, helped avoid an infidelity scandal for a noblewoman and possibly saved the childβs life.

morgause: why does a lowly servant continue to risk everything for arthur and for camelot?
Im curious about the origins of the prophecy this entire show revolves around. Kilgharrah and other magic users who know merlin and emrys are knowledgeable about the destiny arthur and merlin share, but why doesnt morgause know? She is a high priestess of the old religion, but maybe hasnt been around long enough to be anything other than revengeful? Now that i think about it, there is a distinct line between those obviously connected to magic (anhora, the druids, those spooky priestesses in that sacred cave in s5) and those who seem to just be using magic for their own gain (the antagonists in s1, morgause, etc). Maybe the prophecy is so old that only those connected to magic know about it, but magic was only bannished after arthur was born, so was it known that it would go away and come back? Was magic in the realm dwindling even before it became illegal? IS THE PROPHECY EVEN REAL? (< not ready to go into that)

Morgana: I prevented a murder today. Morgause: How did you do that? Morgana: Self-control.
