okay so sharing my project briefly before i delete this post in a few hours for privacy reasons
i really could not figure out an easy way to make this game accessible like a browser game without going even further, i did make it as a python console project and i'm not sure how it'll look on every ide, but i tested some and talked about it! also maybe i'll try to make a youtube video of a playthrough of the game in the future, until then - have my game script/blueprint, this spoils everything from the lore to the puzzles, the hints, and solutions - here is my github repisotory of the whole thing, so basically to play the game, what you'll want to do is copy the whole code and run it on some python-friendly compiler, like installing pycharm, installing an app on your phone, or using some online python site like onlinegdb, i talk about it in lengths in the 'readme'! sorry for the lengthiness, it's essentially a puzzle & trivia game with a story based on the code girls, the game takes place at a museum that gets robbed and besmirched, you can play as a detective to catch the rogues by solving 5 cipher caeser codes to encrypt the messages and get clues; play as a museum curator to restore the museum's displays and placards by solving 5 trivia questions based on the history of the code girls; or you play as a hacker, where you solve any 3 randomly generated questions picked from the trivia or cipher section, no hints at all, and the plot of the hacker is that the rogues who stole from the museum are your enemies, that's why you hacked into the museum and solved the case -- your reward, is that you get a job at the museum's security there are no punishments or timers, the hints explain everything, hints are earned by answering questions about python/karel -- this is to test the people in my program mainly, since i wanted to do a throwback to my teammates but essentially, i tried to make everything replayable and beginner friendly, since my course also has people worldwide with different levels of english skills, so i wanted everybody to have a shot at my project, AND ALSO, i wanted it to be education, my original goal was to make my project dedicated to women but instead of making a static trivia dump, i decided to try and make it immersive and adding some sort of gameplay or puzzle solving, while you still learn about the code girls and a little bit about caeser and how encryption/decryption works! this was my final project for stanford's code in place, an online program of 6-8 weeks where they teach us python, as well as do other fun activities like a hackathon or this project we got to make for the showcase :)
Do you have any advice on how to make your own clangen mod please?
About any mistake or important things you should learn from.
The first most important thing in my opinion that people don't talk about often enough is expectation management. Overambition is the killer of most projects, and scope creep can indefinitely extend their development time.
My own first ClanGen modding project was very ambitious, but I also have previous modding experience and am aware of my capabilities. There is nothing wrong with having a specific idea you want to create, but you need to lay down your priorities if you don't want it to turn into a mess.
A well formed idea
Start by really thinking about what you want your mod to accomplish, and how you want it to function.

Hya! Do any of the ppl in charge of coding have any recommendations for people who wanna learn? Looking to make my own game but not sure where to start 😅😅 ty!!
I don't work on Clangen as a coding dev, but I am working to become a programmer as a career, so maybe some of my advice might be helpful?
One thing is, What programming language are you working in? Games use a variety of programming languages depending on what they need. Clangen itself is built on Pygame, which runs on the programming language Python. Python's a more "beginner-friendly" language, due to it being written in more regular English. Lots of game engines use stuff like C# or C++ for their memory efficiency though. Choose what you need!
Either way, you'll need to learn the basics of programming before you start going nuts. I'd look up tutorials online for learning that, and make a bunch of small bad programs. You've got to practice it to do it! Also, you're going to break stuff. Don't be afraid of it. Whenever you're doing anything different, stuff is going to be slightly broken at first. You've just got to take another look and the answer might be way more obvious than you think!
