Why do many musicians cover Great American Songbook? Sure, there are some cases, such as Willie Nelson, i.e. he did a couple of these, yet they rarely felt like an obligation. Actually, Mr. Nelson did some of the best albums in that vein, so him tackling the tunes Sinatra made famous and also being good at that? Why not? Of course, he doesn't try to match him neither vocally nor lyrically on My Way, but he does capture his spirit. One must remember Nelson began his career as a songwriter, which means he probably tackles the pieces in the manner the original composers of the tune would have. Still, he doesn't forget the swagger Sinatra had, though he doesn't approximate the latter, because he goes his own, ha, way.
