people donβt seem to understand that while free speech exists and is obviously a very important thing for very good reasons, that doesnβt really apply to private businesses, or means that there wonβt be any consequences for certain free speech.
Dave Portnoy (who is Jewish himself, I might add) has every right to fire anyone who was involved in the βfuck Jewsβ sign incident earlier. Dave is also allowed to be upset about it. you can feel free to say or do whatever you want, but then you canβt complain when the owner of a private business that you work for decides to punish you for it.
only saying this because Iβve seen a lot of people whining about free speech because of the incident at that barstool bar. no, what free speech means is that the government canβt punish you for saying βfuck the Jewsβ or any other religious group. and they shouldnβt be able to. because as much as I disagree with that statement, itβs still free speech. private businesses, however, donβt have to follow that.
