For my latest doll hat experiment, I tried using regular 1mm crafts felt. This is 30% wool which I think is actually more than most crafts felt felt has. I wasn't sure what would happen with that low wool content, or whether I'd be able to shape the felt at all.
It worked, kind of: I don't think I managed to make it shrink, but I was able to stretch it a bit and shape a hat (using the cap on some random cleaning product bottle). Then I soaked it with diluted white glue. It's not a great hat, and I probably won't do it again, but nice to know it's possible.
Despite everything she does look pretty good in it, so I think I'll try to make her a proper one later.
(Also I just realized I forgot to wash out the soap before I glued it, which isn’t good for the wool in the long run. Oh well.)
