Eyyy so I finally get to my fictional wife for the challenge!
So for Day 23 have Arma for Banshee.
Had to take a bit of creative liberties with this one due to the different ways Banshees have been portrayed but I feel like I got it down.
Anyways tomorrow/today’s prompt will hopefully be a double feature.
As always have the list below
Talking with my bf about zombie apocalypse movies and we’re debating on slow vs fast zombies. He’s telling me about his own zombie virus ideas! #petedenuzinocore
So I just finally officially finished rise and--
That's it???
Seriously???
While I don't know the exact details, I do know the crazy amount of foul levels that this show was fucked over on. And, in the cramped rush of S2 and finale, it shows.
There is clearly so much more that they were wanting to go into/flesh out/explore/extend and just. man.
You can see so many of these elements right from the beginning!! Like Leo's characteristic leader traits are always! Right! There! Like he's usually always the one rallying them and getting their spirits up. Like him encouraging them in the paper foot ep (where they first meet the foot). Or giving realistic background advice in their missions - usually it's "this is a bad idea" or "don't trust this dumbass" but... he's almost always right about these things.
In line with this, there's also such a subtle interesting power dynamic I noted in my full watchthrough. Like, Raph IS the leader, and for the most part they do respect that by default of him being the eldest, and the trust they've always had in him to take care of them as the eldest, but there are moments peppered in when Leo steps in with a reasonable argument or genuine worry/detirmination and it's like the entire power dynamic shifts to him.
For all Donnie's bellyaching about his apparent disaster twin (I think this is the cutest concept ever and I have adopted like they did each other forevermore) and the clear distaste he sometimes has for him (as siblings do...) he often defers to Leo's judgment more than often, or looks to Leo in times of stress. Once or twice in the earlier eps he actively and almost uncharacteristically asked Leo what they should do when panicking.
And Mikey - he has such an interesting relationship with Raph in the style of "eldest kid that practically raised youngest so it moreso overlaps with a parent-kid dynamic, sometimes uncomfortably so." Canonically, Raph baby's him a lot, and while he adores his big brother, this clearly causes some friction, and also sometimes causes Mikey to see Raph less as a respected leadership figure and more as an annoying dad/babysitter who is over-reacting/over-protective authority figure who should not be listened to. Stick it to the man!
He is very competitive with Leo (which probably stems from Leo being the "cool" older sibling and a need to impress him/prove himself as more than the baby of the family) but this seems to be exclusively in everyday and home life. In missions or fights, Mikey will generally follow either of his brothers direction without fanfare. But he dosen't have the above relationship issues he has with Raph, and toward the end of season 1 there was a tendency to drift more towards Leo's direction (I'd need to watch a few to be able to bring the details on that, but I DO remember noting this with interest while watching). This is also carried over into the movie, where Mikey and Leo's relationship takes more of a forefront - the last two surviving Hamatos, Leo stepping up and Mikey following his example in rescuing him at the end with his newly awakened powers... right from the beginning of the movie Mikey is shadowing and mimicking Leo (adorably) and while they all love each other so much and have unique bonds with each other, I feel there was definitely a tiny but clear preference from Mikey in which brothers he looked up to most (that also happened to be plot relevant).
It's so clear that Leo has a certain sway with his brothers already - a natural charisma and strength of character - that already has him subtly in the driver's seat as "leader", even if none of them really realise it... and they're all perfectly comfortable backseat driving or diving across the seats to grab the wheel whenever they feel like it (you could almost say this is how Raph has been leading them in their onscreen adventures).
Not when he's being a dickhead of course, but when he has his leader's cap on - he's calm/strategic/focused and intent on completing whatever mission they're on, in the thick of it they fall into line behind Leo smoothly without realising it. This is often done with Raph also cueing in - at their best, they co-captain; Leo is the man with the plan, strategy and the intense focus/ferocity, and Raph the drive, conviction and care. They balance each other beautifully when they are on the same page.
There are even quite a few moments when Raph is not there or out of commission that Leo just starts giving out orders and everyone follows without question (the runaway turtle tank one comes to mind here predominately).
If Leo wanted to, he would be an incredible leader right from the get go.
But he doesn't want to. At this point in his life, he just wants to goof off, chill and chase whatever impulsive desire he has. He quite literally just needs to grow up a bit or make the choice to take things seriously and he'd be ready to relieve poor Raph in an instant.
Or face something that forces him to take things a bit more seriously.
(*oooh, and the movie approaches with a steel chair--!! How will Neon Leon handle this-!?)
There are just so many layers to his character, and his dynamic with his family, and with all the subtle buildup and planted seeds, I was realllllllly looking forward to an incredible and satisfying transition to him as their official leader.
Maybe during mid battle?? Maybe he finally steps the heck up during the battle with the shredder? Or before?? Would there be a teary brotherly moment between him and Raph, where Raph lets all the weight of his fears and responsibility out, and Leo truly starts to understand the burden, and thinks "hey, I can do this instead" and slips naturally into a role that he dosent really want, but he would do anything for his family, and so he would do this for Raph??
Man, my anticipation was high. High, high, high...
But alas.
Nope to all of the above :"(
Unfortunately, in the rush of what the show had to be due to the premature mid-season cancellation the best they could do in the forced story-squish was throw in one quick one-line gag of "Blue's the leader now!" at the very end of the finale-
-And just. All that incredible, subtle character buildup, what an absolute waste! All that dynamic character connections and character growth! Unexplored! Unseen properly! Satisfying conclusion to that arc: completely farked! Gone! A travesty! An affront to all that is good and creative in this world!
I just wish we could have seen this show as it was supposed to be seen. The story the creators wanted to tell and should have had the space and time to tell (aka. Their original contract). I still have a genuine hope it will come back at some point due to its rising popularity and potential to become a cult classic, but I will never not be infuriated about this.
This poor show was sunk before it even aired due to so many reasons (primarily mismanagement and lack of care) and that will never not be an absolute travesty. I will die mad about the gross injustices against the crew that poured their heart and soul in it.
But!
It's got one of the most incredible and passionate fan bases I've seen in a while, and that makes me so very happy. Some even FULLY ANIMATED what is basically a mini episode to Kpop demon hunter's 'how it's done!?!' I've had it on loop for days and I really need to go and let them know how much I cannot even with their incredibleness.
Like, passionate fans of this show are a whole other breed, and I will never not be in awe of their passion, creativity and awesomeness.
This show didn't get a lot of what it deserved, but at least it got the fans it deserved ❤️🧡💜💙 and that will always warm my heart.

Not me learning how terrifying supersonic screams / banshee screams are, and I thought it was terrifying enough Laya’s screams can make a person pop like a balloon, either a human, or a monster (like Giants) but (since her banshee screams are amplified via her demonic powers) noooo. Supersonic screams can damage people’s / creatures’ organs from the inside. Not some thinking migrains or headaches (or damaging ear-drums) are bad.. I’ll talk more about Laya (two days ago was her birthday!)
A little comparison: (Black Canary, Sindel, and Laya)
Let’s start with Black Canary (300 decibels Dd)
Her screams are powerful enough human’s ear rupture. Organs damage.
Sindel (fromk mk) 260 to 280. (From a reddit post). Her screams can shed people’s skins
Now to Laya 320 to 400 Dd. (In my worldbuilding such sound length exists - since the world is coated with magic.)
This is a quoted sentence: “360 dB: this immense energy creates localized vaporization. The pressure wave would strip the flesh from bones and shatter the skeletal structure into dust in milliseconds.”
So if 360 is horrific, you could imagine what 400 would do! (I mentioned in this post how powerful and frightening her screams are.) post
Resource
But fear not! She doesn’t actually use them on weaker creatures like humans or, just creatures that are fragile as a whole. She’d use them on constructs: like golems for example. Major drawbacks? She need to recharge (like taking big gulps of air) and hydrate herself. I’m not going to create a nearly invincible Oc (that’s too boring for me) I want something realistic.
Against humans? There is her hair powers (hair manipulation) she can use her hair. Yes, it is like alive sentient being - can grow unnaturally and extended in length and density. If a person would chop it? The tresses would simply regrow back.
